Soft stage was tuna fish. I also had crab.

When I got to the real food stage Shrimp, lobster, BBQ Salmon, oysters. I love seafood I'm originally from the Seattle Washington area. I miss it.

here is one of my favorite crab recipes.

1/2 cup of imitation crab 1/2 cup real crab meat

Finely chop 1/2 seeded cucumber 2 table spoons sweet onion 1 table spoon pickled ginger, 1/3 cup green scallions. and a table spoon of rice vinegar.

Add all ingredients in a bowl add olive oil Mayonnaise. Mix together

Cut avocados in half, remove the seed and stuff the avocado with the crab salad.

Sounds delicious! I will try it in a couple weeks!

  2. Hey VSGers

I am three weeks post-op today, and am now in the soft food stage for the next 10 days. Around August 18 I will transition to the "regular" diet as my surgeon calls it.

My NUT has discouraged shell fish, both now during the soft food AND the regular diet. However, when challenged, she said it is because they can be tougher.

Yesterday I had two raw oysters in a half shell, and they went down just fine. I also like shrimp. I hate the thought of not having any shellfish any longer.

Have any of you had any problems with shellfish? I'd be interested to hear your feedback.

    Thanks!

  3. My experience is that my weight drops in large amounts and then nothing for weeks. I was at 254 for 3 weeks and then weighed myself Friday (my weekly weigh in) and I had dropped to 249.

In the interim, I notice my clothes continue to get looser. I am working out regularly and have gained back my pre-op strength.

I am starting to notice the looser fitting clothes as well. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

  4. I was sleeved yesterday and came home today. The clear liquid diet has been brutal. I have Isopure Protein Drinks but have only been able to get about a quarter of one serving down today. I can eat Jello and take small sips of Water, but I don't see how I'm going to get all the Protein or hydration I need early on. Is this normal? I am supposed to transition to full liquids tomorrow.

  5. So the past few months I've been absolutely confident that I'm doing the right thing, knowing full well it will change my life in so many ways.

But as I wake up today, 24 hours before surgery all I can think of is the difficult moments ahead - not necessarily in the short term (next month) but in the long term.

Yesterday I was at a wedding. It was so difficult to keep saying "no" to all the food I was offered, or that others were eating around me. I'm not a big drinker at all but I so badly wanted so badly to have a beer - just one- at a good brewery close to the wedding venue. But I refrained.

Second thoughts are spiraling around in my head but yet I know what I'm doing is absolutely the right thing for me to do.

I've read so many other stories with very similar tones so I realize that what I am experiencing is completely normal.

So I'm moving forward, somewhat tentative but yet confident. Looking forward to the new me.

The old me is 53 years young, HW 269 with a BMI of 41, CW 249, hypertension, diabetes type II, sleep apnea, high cholesterol. Looking forward to a healthier life.

  6. Hi all

I'm scheduled for surgery on Monday. During the 2-week pre-op diet I've been very good and followed my surgeon's guidelines closely. However, we are traveling this weekend and I am by a brewery I've always wanted to visit.

I have had no alcohol in two weeks. If I have a beer tonight (Saturday) will it cause problems for surgery on Monday? I don't want to screw up the procedure or be turned away because I had a beer two nights before.

    Help!

  7. My surgery date is July 20. I'm male, 5'7" with a BMI of 40. I began my preop diet Monday and so far have lost almost 5 pounds. My diet is primarily a Protein Shake for Breakfast, one for lunch, and a lean Protein and vegetables at dinner. I also am drinking 64 ounces of Water (or the like) each day.

So I've said good-bye to espresso drinks, ice cream, Mexican food, Wings, Beer, etc. And now I'm starting question my decision to go forward with the sleeve because of the permanence of this procedure. The way I see it I will rarely if ever be able to enjoy these things again.

However, I know my health will improve. My Diabetes Type 2 will disappear quickly, my sleep apnea will become less of an issue if not go away all together, and my high blood pressure and cholesterol numbers should improve as well, not to mention getting into a normal weight range.

How did you deal with the buyer's remorse, and what would you have done differently if you had to do it over again?

    Thanks!

  8. I'm somewhat new here. I have now completed all my pre-surgery requirements and am meeting with the doctor next week to schedule my surgery. I'm a 53 year-old guy with a BMI of 40 and several co-morbidities.

I travel often for work. Usually it's off the plane into a meeting followed by dinner at a restaurant of someone else's choice.

I'd be curious to hear from others that travel for business to see how they eat in social settings as well as just preparing for travel.

    Thanks!

  9. Thanks everyone! I meant to introduce myself. I'm a guy, 53 years young, 265 lbs BMI 41. Several comorbidities including sleep apnea, Type 2 Diabetes (barely, but still diagnosed), hypertension, high cholesterol. I have my final NUT appointment this Friday. Then it should be time to get insurance approval and schedule the surgery.

Nervous but confident it is the right move.

  10. Hello - I am new here. I do not yet have my surgery date but expect to be "sleeved" in July.

Last night I was at a support group. I have never had acid reflux in my life, but at the meeting last night several people that have had the surgery indicated it was pretty prevalent for them the first few months following surgery.

If this is true, what is the best way you found to deal with it, especially early on during the recovery process?

    Thanks!
