I want to but can I

1200 calories is hard. I am 2 years post op and sometimes I have 1200 calories, but rarely. I can't really function off of it. It is a huge deficit for someone with a normal metabolism. I think you are being too hard on yourself. Losing weight post wls is easy because you have no hunger, your are healing so eating hurts, and you have a major metabolic reset going on in your body. I was a diet failure for decades. WLS boom, lost over 170 pounds in less than 2 years. And it felt pretty easy most of the time. I'm not a serious exerciser and I still lost my weight and kept my msucle up, so all is not lost. Don't give up keep going, and be kind to yourself.

    How much is too much???

No, I am not saying that. I am just saying the tomatoes are why you can eat more. As long as you are weighing your portions out before you eat it doesn't matter. I was just explaining that adding moisture makes it easier to eat more. One thing with tomatoes is be careful with the acid if you have any acid issues.

New member: feeling lonely and scared

I'm really sorry you have no one to help you. Can you schedule the surgery around when your Ex has your child anyway? Do you have any friends that can help? Can you hire a nanny? I mean money is the great equalizer, if people you know won't help you, you can always just pay someone. I had a friend take me to the hospital and pick me up. You don't have anyone? Not even a co-worker? Churhc member? College buddy?

    How much is too much???

Eggs were hard for me from the very beginning. I avoided them for months. To answer your question, adding the tomatoes added moisture to the egg and the cheese making it less dense and easier to eat. There is no way you could eat 4 ounces of steak, or anything that is a dense protein or dry. You were able to eat 4 ounces of this because it lacks density and has a high moisture level. This is okay early on but something you want to avoid long term. In a year or 2 you would be able to easily eat 12 ounces like this.

    Hit a milestone today!

    Congrats!
  6. I went shopping again this weekend, building the Fall wardrobe. I was feeling kind of crappy because I had to get size 31 skinny jeans from J.Crew because of my hips and thighs. Then I thought about it. I used to have a 66 inch waist, my hips were 70 inches. That fact that I had to get size 31 jeans instead of 30 shouldn't be a real issue at this point. This is the point where weight loss just gets nitpicky. On the bright size. I wear a size 8 at Brooks Brothers! Also I got some size 10 over the knee boots from a brand that runs small and they fit perfect.

Please help...need reality check! Slipping up!

Just take it hour by hour. Don't worry about getting through the day, that can be overwhelming. Just worry about eating and drinking right for the next hour. Then just keep making it hour by hour. Good luck OP, we are on your side.
  9. She is preaching moderation. They are low cal but full sugar. Too many ingredients for me. I would rather just eat real cake, at least it is clean. People like her are necessary so the rest of us can learn what not to do. For the cost of them, they better include an orgasm.

Breaking a stall with MORE calories?

Almost everyone has a 3 week stall. Your body is just resting there is no reason to try and break it. However, yes upping your calories can shock your body and get it back to losing. When I upped my calories at month 4 I think, I had my biggest loss.

iron and stomach issues, please help?

The iron I was on, after going vegan made me super anemic, gave me some GERD. I had my script changed to slow release iron, it works in the intestine not the stomach. Problem solved. Also less constipation. Ask your dr for the coated iron.

Dumping Syndrome at 5 1/2 years post surgery

I had this earlier this year... http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diabetes/expert-answers/reactive-hypoglycemia/faq-20057778 I was not eating meat, and it cause me a ton of issues. I changed how I was eating, back to my normal way of eating and it has stopped. The whole experience was pretty traumatic. Have you changed how you are eating lately?

When can I start working out ?

When your Doctor tells you. Nothing anyone says here counts. Your Dr knows best.

Doing PROTEIN SHAKES FOR A MONTH!

I know you are 5 foot 2 but at 216 pounds, you are not going to drop a ton of weight really fast. Stalls are normal. If you keep doing the same thing you will still lose. I stalled for a week or 2 at a time all the time during my weight loss. I still lost 172 pounds post op, not relying on protein shakes. I stalled every single time I had my period, and sometimes that came with a weight gain of 5 pounds. I had a period every 2 weeks for over a year. So imagine all the stalls I had. It is better to track your weight loss by the month, not the week, even if you weigh everyday. Monthly totals matte more than weekly totals. You can lose more weight faster with real food because your body burns calories just processing real food. When you have protein shakes you are giving your body immediately available calories it does not have to work for. Stalls are a part of the process get used to them.

What you eating 9-12 months post op?

You can eat pretty normally at that point 3 to 4 ounces of food maybe more. Also you should be able to drink pretty rapidly. 9 months later you should be fine.

    Feeling sad after surgery...

@Tpar09 I live alone and none of my family or friends live near me. My friend flew in from the coast to be with me when I had surgery but left 48 hours after my surgery. I understand feeling alone. I also only told about 3 people at that time I had surgery so I also had the weight of this huge secret. I was afraid something would go wrong and I was all alone and no one even knew I had surgery or was close enough to check on me. All I can say is it gets better, hang in there.

    Variation in athlete body types

I always have liked how female Volleyball players look. Usually shapely with some fat left in the right places.
  20. I purchased a blouse last week at Nordstrom without trying it on, just looked at it on the rack and purchased. I went back to get it in another color yesterday because when I wore it yesterday I loved it. I automatically picked the large because I assumed that was the size I had on. I asked the sales person to double check the tag of the top I was wearing, It was a medium! I usually buy medium tops now but sometimes I forget and grab larges. The sales person said "You have to remember you are little now!" That made me feel so good. When she said that, she had no idea how large I was when I started. When people that didn't know me when I was huge comment that I am small, it really helps it sink in with me that I am actually a small person now.

    Ds vs. bypass

I just had the sleeve and lost 172 pounds post op, with just the sleeve and good eating habits, not really working out. I picked the sleeve because I knew I could revise to DS if I didn't lose enough with the sleeve or if as I get older I have serious regain issues. If i was going to pick I would pick DS just because you get to eat more and you don't have to be quite as diligent. So if someone is a serious food addict with emotional issues, DS is the better option to keep the weight off long term. The only other reason to not go with DS would just be the skill of the surgeon and the support of the program. I have noticed some programs treat DS like other surgeries and do not provide good nutrition and follow up care. DS is unique and needs unique follow up.

How did you choose your goal weight?

My surgeon asked my HS weight. I told him, he said I could get there. 190 seemed like a good goal and ambitious, for someone that had been over 300 pounds for almost 2 decades. Once I hit it, I decided I could go lower. I want a 27 BMI before skin surgery.
  23. Peanut butter is one of those things I rarely ate pre-op. Post-op I like it so much, I don't keep it in the house. It was too easy to eat and too calorie dense.

    Full not satisfied

The food is pretty boring. when you get to solids, and really start feeling restriction, you might find you have a different attitude.
  25. Everyone is hungry with raging hormones. Short answer. This forum is still nicer than a lot of others. WLS community is cut throat, just like the rest of the internet. There is lots of good information here, just ignore people you don't like and keep going.
