    A whole new life

Everyone had really kind words to say. Even though it seems serious and long long now. This is really a short period of your life. I'm 2 years post-op. I live a very normal life at this point. You woupd never know I had WLS if you spent the day with me. I had Jimmy John's for lunch while waiting for ny car to be cleaned. I'm at a mall right now eating again, fish and shrimp. I'm going to walk around this mall, try on clothes and hit GNC on the way out for a snack. This post surgery isolation is a great time to form good habits so when you hang out with your friends later you can easily make good choices. Think of this as your training period. Life will br back to normal sooner than you think.

    Trying on smaller sizes

One thing to keep in mind is not to have things too tight on your rib cage post-op. It can cause heartburn and a lot of discomfort. A proper fitting bra is a must, one that doesn't fit properly will be hell. Just like shoes, too large hurts more than too small. Also, I don't understand the magic of plus sized clothes but you can gain or lose 20 to 30 pounds and they still fit. Normal sizes 5 to 8 pound either way and you have to go up or down a size. Another reason I think most long term successful people seem to be the people that get completely out of plus sizes. Your regular size clothes have a lot more accountability built in.

    Hair loss

The best thing to do is promote fast regrowth. That come from exceeding your protein goals, keeping your vitamin levels correct, and good health in general. Years ago, when I wanted to increase my hair growth I would always added extra protein to my diet and that would make my hair grow like wildfire

Ladies: The Body differences when you are slimmer

I'm a 34 F/G and I can get away with not wearing a bra in structured or tight fitting dresses. It is really fun and something I never thought I would be able to do.

Ladies: The Body differences when you are slimmer

Yeah that has been really weird for me also. Also my bras are actually touching my ribs, and sometimes resting between a rib. It doesn't hurt it just makes me very aware.
  6. I'd switch to Dec surgery date. You get to enjoy Thanksgiving and you get the cover of Christmas break. Normally I don't think there is any benefit to waiting but if waiting until Semseter break will allow you to automatically get more time, it seems like a good idea. Other than that, go with hernia repair, even if you need another hernia repair later on it doesn't matter, because hernias are unseen and can reoccur. If you say something like gallbladder then later have a gallbladder attack at work, that will be an issue. You want to keep your story as simple as possible. No one entitled to your personal medical information.

back at work and having a hard time

At 6 weeks from surgery and working all day... I would sip on protein drinks and not water all day. Your calorie needs are higher as a DS patient due to your malabsorption rates. The only way you are going to get enough protein and fluids in early on is to drink them.

    BCBS of Illinois

You have to read your policy we can't tell you. I had BCBSIL and my surgery was covered 100%, plus I had met my out of pocket and deductible for the year before surgery. Your Eval might have been covered by a co-pay or metal health services might be covered fully. We don't know your policy, they are all different, you have to read it and call BCBSIL with questions. They are nice and responsive.

Any Tespo users? Is it worth it.

I looked into it. The cost is cool. The issue is they have some vitamins together that should be taken apart, and the doses are way too low for Bariatric patients. Like If I used their product. I would have to still take other vitamins, none of their doses are high enough. If they made their formulas better I would purchase right away.

    Trying on smaller sizes

@JohnnyCakes No one is saying genetics doesn't play a roll. You are following me around in threads trolling because I didn't jump on board with your dumb ass leftover food delivery service you were advertising? Thanks for once again adding nothing constructive. If all she is wearing is yoga pants and t-shirts, she is not going to see her weight loss. Do you wear yoga pants? Wearing fitted clothes is part of tracking your weight. Just like getting on a scale every day or weighing your food. Most of the people that come back after regaining have failed to do 2 or 3 of the prior mentioned. People can't make it easy to regain without noticing, because once you get 20 pounds up it is a lot harder to correct than 5 pounds up.

    Leftovers, eh, not interested!

@heycrystal2052 When I get bored with food, I have protein shakes for a day, then food is suddenly interesting again. I tend to eat the same things most of the time, so I easily get bored. Even before surgery with was my cure for boredom.

    Trying on smaller sizes

It is pretty important to try different weekly. If you are losing weight fast enough you will completely skip sizes. If all you wear are stretchy clothes, if the scale isn't moving you won't see the loses the way you will feel them with clothes. If all your clothes are stretchy I dunno. I feel like stretchy clothes are what let people get and stay fat. Prior generations did not wear the kinds of fabrics we wear, the clothes were built with structure and clothing was expensive. If you gained weight it was a major issue. All of my clothes now are tight (If it has stretch it has to be tight as a drum) and fitted/tailored. If I am even bloated, I feel it. It helps keep me on track.
  13. Try replacing the shakes with real food. Dense protein. Your body has to burn calories to process real food, but protein shakes are immediately available calories. That is okay immediately post-op when you can only consume very little Why are you only at 800 calories? What does your program say about that? at 9 months I was at 1100-1200 most days, actually before 9 months. You might find you start losing again by slowly increasing your calories.

    Being a voice

I think the emotional effects on women who are pre-menopausal are not really researched enough. Previously most people who had WLS were older and super morbidly obese. If you are a menstruating woman, the hormone dump from surgery really does a number on you. Until recently I don't think there have been enough young women having surgery for this to be effectively researched. I still doubt it will be. No one in the WLS community really cares about the emotional issue post-op until people are either suicidal, drug addicts and alcoholics. Those seem to be the only extremes they recognize. I'm glad you are feeling better OP.

Anyone Sleeved in 2015 and gaining weight now.

Weighing and tracking your food is really key! You can get so many extra calories just eye balling it. Do the meds make you constipated? Track you food and eating nothing but dense protein for a week and see if you drop some weight.

Anyone Sleeved in 2015 and gaining weight now.

@CrissyBat No. Are your stats accurate/current? what was the most you lost? When did you stop losing? When did you start gaining? Did you ever hit goal? What do you eat? Do you weigh your food? Do you track your food?

Gained almost all my weight back

@Lovergurl Between dense protein. I am pretty unique on the forum based on most posts I read for eating like this, but it works for me. I also don't eat with other people that often since I live alone, so here is no one commenting on the fact I am just eating a pork chop

Gained almost all my weight back

@Lovergurl I was never a grazer either pre-op. I liked having one or 2 big meals a day, which was part of my problem. WLS makes it easy to become a grazer just because you eat such small amounts, that if you don't eat the right thing you will be hungry soon after. I can eat 4 ounces of steak by itself and be full for hours. If I have 2-3 ounces of steak on top of a salad, I will be hungry in an hour, because the salad adds moisture and basically makes it a slider. The food choices post-op matter A LOT for how much you can and can't eat. Dense protein is always going to be just a few ounces, everything else, will be at or almost at normal levels. I could eat a whole slice of cake or cheesecake for example.
  21. If OP ever comes back... Just switch Drs. I was 365 at my first visit, not required to lose any weight prior, followed the 10 day liver shrinking diet, 358 on day of surgery. I am in the low 180s right now. I have lost weight just fine without having to lose weight pre-op. If I could lose weight pre-op I wouldn't have had surgery. Do you weigh all your food and track it? Every single thing?

To Pho or Not To Pho....

Rice noodles are worse because... they are lighter, you can eat more They have slightly less fiber, fiber subtracts from the carb count They have basically no protein. 1 gram vs 7 in wheat noodles Wheat spaghetti noodles are better than rice noodles nutrition wise.
  23. OutsideMatchInside

    No carbonation

You will probably be able to chug water again by year one. I can chug water basically at the same rate as pre-op at 2 years. You can probably have carbonation down the road if it doesn't bother you. A sleeve isn't a pouch. I have carbonation every once in a while, it doesn't bother me, but it isn't something I seek out or purchase on a regular basis.

To Pho or Not To Pho....

They rice noodles which are worse than pasta noodles. They are lighter and you can eat more. If you eat carbs and don't care go for it. They are about 44 carbs per serving, with almost no fiber less than 2 grams.

    How much can you eat?

Beef stew smashed up is a soft food. I could probably eat 8 to 16 ounces of it. I wouldn't eat it because it has potatoes and stews are usually thickened with flour or cornstarch. If you eat like that, you are going to be able to eat limitless amounts of food. Anything with a lot of liquid, that is pre-broken down, you can eat more of. If you were eating baked chicken breast I doubt you could have more than 2 ounces. Dense protein is always the best option but at 3 weeks, something like a baked fish fillet is a better option than beef stew.
