1.5 years out, only 40% loss, Devastated

If your carbs are 60-80 grams you would have to eat 120 to 160 grams of protein to balance them out. That is a lot of calories. If someone is having 60-100 grams of protein their carbs should be in the 20-40 range for weight loss.

    July Sleever

Day 4 of pre-op was murder. I also had to go to my nutrition class, and all we did was talk about food all day (okay it was only an hour or so but it seemed longer). I think I was the only person in the class already on their pre-op diet. It was miserable. Avoiding people and food until surgery,

    Question about insurance/out of pocket

If this provider isn't covered on your insurance find one that is. You are the one paying the bills don't let your surgeon force you into paying for things you could have covered.

Approval: Healthcare Exchange Plan - BCBSIL

The only thing blue cross required was a weight history. Even the insurance verifier said it was vague

Approval: Healthcare Exchange Plan - BCBSIL

I am not sure. I did not have to do all of those things. I had a new doctor so I had a full blood panel, xray, ekg, and met with a cardiologist. I have a flexible work schedule so that made all of the appointments easier. It seems like a lot of places drag it out. I am glad my doctor is moving it along

    July sleevers?

Yes, on my list is premier and a few other brands which aren't that great. Premier was the best brand on the list. I guess they are trying to give people a list of things that are easily available, but most of the store proteins are junk. I do like Syntrax Nectar and I am going to pick up a couple flavors this week. Caribbean cooler is my favorite. I am also purchasing a casein protein for nights, for the slow digestion. I'm trying to have a wide variety of proteins just so I don't get bored. I was also a little nervous about purchasing a lot of protein when my taste buds might change afterwards so I was trying to get just enough for now, and lots of samples to try early after surgery then make big orders. So many people here post that they spent a lot of money on things only to have surgery and not like them. I hate chocolate and I like vanilla and fruit flavors and it is really hard to find those that taste good. I am really hoping this Unjury chicken flavor is a winner.

    22 day revolution

Why not try Protein shakes for a while? You won't be able to get the protein you need on the vegan diet, and the vegan Protein Shakes are not as filling as whey. You can reset with any new habit, it doesn't have to be vegan for 22 days. I liquid diet of 4 protein shakes a day would do it also.

    July sleevers?

I have premixed and powder. I change depending on my mood. In the morning I drink a premixed right away. I make a powder at lunch, and drink another premix at dinner if I lose track of time. I think having a premix around is handy so you have something instant. I am using premier protein ready made purchased at Sam's club and vitacost meal replacement shakes from vitacost.com, they have fiber in them and they will help keep you regular, they also have vitamins and minerals. I have been drinking a lot of broth. It really helps to keep the cravings at bay. I purchased some high quality organic broths at whole foods. I have lamb, chicken and beef for variety. The brand I have is only 15 calories a cup, and 3 protein. It is nice between shakes, and it helps warm you up, if you are bored with cold shakes. I ordered some unjury chicken soup flavored protein and I hope it is here by the end of the week to get me though the weekend!

    "BFF" Went MIA...Jealousy?

I had a friend that had weight loss surgery a few years ago. I am no longer friends with her. I am sure she tells people I am jealous or whatever, but in reality her whole personality changed. She was shy and quiet before and really sweet and she let people walk over her. When she lost weight, she got confidence and over compensated the other way. She turned into a raging bitch about every little thing. Instead of knowing when to compromise or agree to disagree she wanted to argue every point until she "won" every conversation, even simple conversations where there is no clear winner. It got exhausting. I tired to be cool for a year or so but I gave up. I'm an adult and I know myself. She was going on this fantastic journey of self discovery or whatever and I did that with all my college friends in college. I don't dislike her, I just stopped talking to her, she isn't the same person. BTW this was an online friend so there was no physical jealousy, we have never hung out in person even though we had been friends several years. I am sure one day she will find that balance of being assertive without going overboard. Kitty, People are sometimes unhappy with their lives and they don't realize it, until they see someone else happy. I think your friend is unhappy and feeling insecure. If she is already insecure on her own, being around someone that makes her more insecure is probably more than she can handle. She probably doesn't know how to verbalize this to you. Reach out to her once, if she doesn't respond, there are plenty of fish in the sea.

    Walden Farms Calorie Free Specialties

I love them! I also love their pancake syrup it is amazing. The mayo is decent. The BBQ is decent. The cocktail sauce not so much. They are calorie free, nothing to lose in trying them! The calories you can save really stack up, especially for people like us who have few calories to spare.

July 14 (or close )Sleeve Date Friends

The trick to being able to stick to a low calorie diet, is to never let yourself get hungry. You need to have 3 shakes a day. You also need to keep your body built up. Protein is the building block of the body, make sure you are getting it in! It will help you with recovery!

1.5 years out, only 40% loss, Devastated

84lbs is still a huge loss. As long as you are losing and not gaining that is a victory even if the loss is slow. I have not had surgery yet, so I don't have any veteran advice but I am sure others will chime in with suggestions.

    July Sleever

As my first day of pre-op dieting ends. I am glad I had all my food funerals. When I am craving something (head hunger is terrible), I can remind myself that I had my fill. And finally to combat it, I know that my surgeon will visibly see my cheating and that cheating can really endanger my outcome. I recently read a copy of Overeaters Anonymous and in the book they talk about taking it day by day, minute by minute. That is what I am doing when I get the urge to eat, just overcoming that moment in time and not worry too much about the future.

    July sleevers?

I am terrified that my tastes will change and I won't like the shakes I like now. I think though I will be okay, mainly because I have given up real sugar a long time ago, and I am very used to the tastes. I often forget to eat, so Protein shakes are the perfect fill in for me. Also, not really a morning person so they are perfect breakfast. Nope, not weird!! I love drinking protein shakes too. I drink them for breakfast even if I'm not currently "dieting" - I like the taste and they are fast. I'm a "do I sleep 10 more minutes or make a breakfast?" kind of person. :-) I nervous about my tastes changing after surgery. Some people have said they drank them pre-op, but couldn't stand the taste post op!

    July sleevers?

I must be the onky weirdo tgat loves protein shakes and drinks them all the time. They are great for hair growth. When I wake up in the morning, i start my pre-op. It is only 10 days and i can do 10 days standing on my head. I am worried about the lower energy at first since i have so many errands to run pre-op. I also have hair, nails, a pedicure I need to fit in over the next 10 days.

July 15th. My process has been so fast, I am trying to make sure I am mentally prepared. Less than 2 months from first visit to surgery.

    July Sleever

I just was scheduled for surgery. I have July 15th. I have to do a 10 day pre-op diet so the 4th is my last day to eat whatever. I'm really excited this process moved so fast for me.
  20. @@Babbs The point is, the stomach is going to stretch some naturally with food over time. Why stretch it more with carbonation, when you don't have to? There are so many alternatives to carbonation, if you know it is going to sabotage you, why even risk it.
  21. I wish doctors would explain the carbonation better so people would realize it is about more than calories and sugar. People think the because they budget the calories and sugar that makes it okay. The reason you are supposed to avoid carbonation is because the pressure of the carbonation expands your stomach. If you keep drinking carbonation over time you are going to expand your stomach and lose your restriction. You are going to be able to eat more easier and faster and it is going to contribute to weight regain over time. If you went through all the pain, money and trouble to get a smaller stomach, don't expand it with carbonation, there are plenty of things to drink with no carbonation.
  22. I think that it depends on the person and how you use the tool. I also worry if I will be able to lose over 1/2 my body weight, it seems like an impossible task. About the gastric bypass... I had a friend that had gastric bypass, they started around 380, and after about a year was 220, and striving for onderland. They worked out 6 days a week, walking/running 5 miles, etc. Then this person started going out and partying, slacked on working out, eventually met some and started dating serious. Stopped losing weight all together, because they stopped using their tool. 1.5 years out they started having hunger even with the bypass. All of that is to say it really depends on you and how you use it. Just like you, I chose the sleeve over the bypass, because I dis not want something that invasive, and the life long malabsorption. When discussing it with Doctors they all said that the sleeve and RNY have the same long term outcome. My Doctors said that if you are young and you can move, then you don't need RNY, that they save that now more older and more immobile people.

Waiting on approval from BCBS of IL

Yes. I just called the number on my card and told the automated system I was calling about benefits. The rep called pre-authorizations and to care of everything.

Waiting on approval from BCBS of IL

Well even though these Doctors work together in the same department at the hospital, they each seem to run their own office. I called BCBS this afternoon, tried of waiting. I am approved! They said the letter should be mailed out to myself and my provider in the next couple of days. That means about 2 weeks from submission to approval and a little more time for letter to come in the mail.

Waiting on approval from BCBS of IL

I called to check if they received the clearance form from my cardio doc and she told me they submitted me to insurance on the 10th. I had my nut and other eval at des peres on the 8th. So i guess as soon as that was completed they submitted. Have you called the office?
