Just keep going. That's the most important thing. I agree with everyone else - don't compare yourself with others. Just figure out what you can do now. A mile, half mile, 10ft, whatever! And try to go just a little bit further every day.

Day 2 and 3 were awful. From day 4 on I felt pretty good. I went back to work (part-time, desk job) on day 6 and I wish I would have waited a little longer. One of my incisions ended up opening from the pressure/friction of my waistband and bled all over.

I feel the exact same way! I will be a month out as of Wednesday. I feel like my surgery was a lifetime ago! But at the same time I feel like it was yesterday.
hey there! How is it going for you? I'm almost 2 weeks down now! Seems like longer but also seems like it's just a short time too. Weird like that!Hi Mandynette! I had rny 6/15/15!
-
I took a lot of naps the first 2 weeks or so. I think it's totally normal. Your body needs lots of rest to repair itself from major surgery. By week 3 I was able to stay up all day (but still sleeping a good 9 hours at night.) And now heading into week 4 I'm really starting to feel very energetic!

Hi Mandynette! I had rny 6/15/15!

I slept on my back with 4 pillows under my head and shoulders to prop me up for about a week. After that, I was comfortable enough to sleep on my right side. I had some bruising/swelling on my left side, so I wasn't able to sleep on that side until 3 weeks out.

I had a catheter. It was put in while I was under. Having it taken out the next day was quick and painless. The worst part was having a bag of pee clipped to my iv stand while I was out walking the halls.

Thank you guys! You are the best! Feeling a little bit better today!
hope you get to feeling better. be thankful you didn't get sick right before surgery either and possibly cause a delay...
Good point! That was my biggest fear pre-op that I would get sick, requiring my surgery to be postponed.
Get a vaporizer at Walgreens, CVS, or Walmart. They run about $16 around here. If it doesn't steam right away, add some salt. Stay away from air vents or fans. Put it next to where you sleep on the floor. Your sore throat will be better in the morning. I lived with throat infections for years and now have it mastered. Good luck and feel better!
Love this idea! Totally getting a vaporizer. Literally feel like I have glass shards in my throat when I swallow.

Ugh. Not really wls related but I'm just having a pitty party and feeling sorry for myself. I'm 2.5 weeks postop rny, and just as I was starting to feel completely recovered from suregry I now have the worst sore throat, cough and stuffy nose. I guess the one silver lining is if I would have gotten sick a week ago, I would be in miserable pain everytime I coughed.

My surgeon allows Tylenol only. No NSAIDS ever again.

8 days post op I wasn't eating. I was only drinking.
-
I pretty much got over the whole eating out in public thing during my pre-op diet. I am now totally comfortable going to a restaurant with my husband or friends, and ordering a Water and a cup of ice to pour my Protein Shake into. With zero you-know-whats given. I just make sure to tip very well.

Hi rfitz72! I experienced a similar pain in my upper right abdomen. According to my surgeon it's normal... Apparently the liver retractor they use can rub against your lower ribs, causing some soreness. Mine lasted probably for a week after. I'm now 2.5 weeks out and the pain is completely gone! Anyway hope that gives you some peace of mine, but I would say if it lasts for longer than the next few days or so, or gets worse, give your surgeon a call.

I will be going back to work tomorrow at exactly 1 week post-op. But I will only be working a 5 hour day at a desk job.

Great news, Julia and Myjourney again! Less than 8 hours to go for me. Won't deny I'm a litLe nervous, but y'all made me feel better. I'll be checking in tomorrow evening.
Freelee, how are you doing? Thinking about you.
-
Myjourneyagain, how amazingly helpful is the walking? I just got back from my second. ????
Freelee,
You will do so awesome! The anticipation while in preop was by far the worst part of this journey.

I've been awake and alert since about 6pm. I took a nap and just went on my first walk. A little cramping in my intestines but otherwise I feel good
-
Hi all! I'm in preop right now waiting to head back to surgery! Nervous and excited!
-
Welcome! We are date twins! My procedure is on 6/15 too! I'm having rny.
-
Good luck to both of you!

I anyone else done for the summer? Our last day with kids was Friday! I still have to go in this week to wrap up some paperwork, but I'm just so grateful that it will be a little less hectic and I will have plenty of time to focus on my pre-op diet and getting my house and other affairs in order. 8 days to go!

Thank you guys for the advice. I'm feeling much better about it now. And I realize her comments are totally about her (she is also obese and told me when she "found out" that she too has considered surgery.) So my gut instinct is that she is coming from a place of jealousy.
I've decided to let it go for now because tomorrow is the last day I will see her for a while. But if she brings it up between now and then she will be lucky if she doesn't get a swift kick to the throat. Just kidding.

I chose rny because it has the best outcomes for my specific co-morbidities (pcos, type 2 diabetes, nafl)
Denied! ????

Have you seen a surgeon yet? The reason I ask is some surgeons can help you complete the 6 month requirement so you make sure you do exactly what you need to do in order for your insurance to accept it. The last thing you'd want is to sirens the next 6 months doing dr supervised weight loss only to get denied again because your pcp didn't document it the exact right way your insurance requires.
