  1. I felt like a real failure after I gained back all lost weight (120#) after a stomach stapling in 1982. I refused to even think about any type of revision because I felt had my chance and failed to keep it off. But several loving friends were brave enough to tell me that they were concerned about my health because of my morbid obesity and wondered if I considered a revision. After I dealt with my very hurt feelings, I stopped feeling sorry for myself and now I'm researching a revision. I don't care what people think because the ones I care about will be my biggest cheerleaders. Please take that awful word failure out of your vocabulary.

  2. I agree with you Dub. I want WLS too be a tool to go along with everything I need to do to lose weight then most importantly, keeping it off. To be given a second chance to live healthy is going to be a blessing. This is not going to be easy but I'm being realistic that I will lose weight but it will come back on without a serious commitment to do this right.

  3. There's nothing worse then former smokers who cough like crazy when they see someone smoking, former drunks that think they have found all the answers about alcohol, and former fattys that sneer at us who remain overweight or choose a way to live longer by having surgery. I feel sorry for Chuck I think he's lonely.

  4. People are allowed to their opinion, however occasionally I wonder if this is the easy way out also. I look around at people that are able to lose weight on their own and wonder if they'll be able to keep it of. With gastric bypass I have a better chance of keeping weight off long term something I've never been able to do. I have come to realize that I don't need anyone's approval but sure would like their support as I start this journey. It took me a long time to come to this point.

  5. I also am in the research stage although I had the old fashioned stomach stapling 30 years ago. Dropped 100# fast but couldn't keep it off for various reasons big one that I love food. I told myself as I was climbing back into the 200's again that I had my bite of the apple so accept yourself as being very obese. I had a wake-up call 2 years ago when I had part of a lung removed for cancer and when I got my clean and clear 2 year check in April I decided to get healthy since 60 is the new 40 also. This time I'm studying everything I can about nutrition and bariatric surgery. I hope my lung status won't stop the process since I have such shortness of breath with only 1 1/3 lung. I'm very excited. Wish me luck!

  6. After I lost 100 lbs. from a stomach stapling, I too looked at obese people with some contempt. All of a sudden I was queen of health and told people that I'll never be fat again. Well fast forward a couple decades and now I'm looking at bariatric surgery again. Unfortunately for me eating crow is not my cup of tea.

  7. I'm from Biwabik and have my first appt. in Duluth July 28. Had stomach stapling in 1982 had good results but gained weight back. Back then there was no pre-op or post-op teaching or follow up. I have learned so much with a recent visit to a dietician that I didn't even know. I thought that my stapled stomach would be my answer but there is much work involved. Who is the surgeon in Duluth?

  8. I drank pretty heavy before my "stomach stapling" back in 1982 and after, I went down hill fast then sobered up 6 months after. I met several gastric bypass pts. when I was in treatment (I had a serious relapse after 26 years of sobriety). Unfortunately I gained my weight back and looking at a roux n y after years of trying to get this weight off again. Just know it is out there and be on guard.

  9. I had a gastric bypass in 1982 with a lot of success and no problems. I lost over 100#. Unfortunately I gained my weight back most of it in the last 5 years. I'm looking into a new procedure that repairs enlarged gastric outlets plus decrease the pouch. Has anyone had this done? If so how did it go. Thank-you

  10. I had a bypass in 1982 and lost 120#. I didn't have any problems and didn't take any supplements or Vitamins. I was able to wear a size 10 at my wedding. Back then there was no after care with surgeon or dietician. I slowly gained 30# back. Then I gained another 70 so I'm close to where I was 30 years ago. I gained because I ate absolutely the wrong stuff and made excuses for it. Now at 63 I'm looking into a new procedure that will repair the dilated gastric outlet all done through an endoscope. No incisions at all. I don't want to die of obesity.

  11. I had gastric bypass in 1982 and lost 120#. I gained back about 40# over 20 years but within the last 3-4 years I gained back 70#. I realized I was hungry all the time. I was able to eat steak, raw vegetables(that is a good thing) and drink with meals. I researched this and found out that the outlet stretches and food goes through faster. There's a new procedure that can be done through an endoscope that sutures the outlet back smaller and fix the pouch if necessary. Of course like my gastric bypass it is only a tool to successful long term weight loss.

  12. before I had my gastric bypass I drank often. After surgery when I drank again i got drunk much faster. I soon discovered that I was an alcoholic and stopped drinking any alchohol of any kind. I discovered when in alchohol treatment several other people that also had a bypass done. Be careful and be aware when you drink the amts you drink and reasons for drinking. For me food was not my only addiction.
