    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

I'm here been reading the boards some and not posting much. I went for my 4th fill about a week and a half ago and think I'm at my sweet spot. Some days I think I'm too tight, but I'm able to get liquids down, just get something stuck occassionally. I think I just need to take smaller bites and slow down, I'm working on it again, darn it... Anyway, down 51 lbs since surgery so I can't complain, but I'll be going on vacation again for a week leaving Friday so I'm just hoping to hold my own again while we're gone and then I can get back on the bandwagon once we return, not that I won't work on it some this week before we go, but you know what I mean.

    United Healthcare and AT&T

Hi Tiffany, were you a Cingular employee before being picked up by AT&T? If so, you will probably have to wait for a new contract to find out if the exclusion is lifted. I was a Southwestern Bell employee before it turned over to AT&T and my UHC did not have the exclusion. I suppose you can go ahead and try, but don't be surprised if your turned down. Sorry!!

I've got a red top, I'll wear mine and I'll have on blue denim shorts. See ya Thursday.
  7. I have eaten buffet at Golden Corral and most of those restaurants that I've gone to have been very gracious and given me the childs price for the buffet. I agree with Clayverde that you have so many choices from the buffet that I don't mind eating there when we go out. We used to have a Souper salad which I loved, but it is no longer in town. I miss that place. I carry my card with me at all times and do not hesitate to ask about a discount. If they tell me no, it's no big deal, all I had to do was ask.

Lisa I'm so glad you're surgery went well and you're on the mend. You'll probably feel well enough to attend the meeting this Thursday, I went 1 week after surgery and was fine. JoAnne hope to meet you at the meeting. I post every now and then on the fifties thread and I've read your post and you seem to have so many good words of encouragement. Some days I need more encouraging than others, lol.... Erika hope everything is going well with you since your fill. I've had 4 fills now and I can truly say that I now have restriction. In fact, I've almost got too much restriction but I'm just trying to adjust to it and eating much smaller bites and eating much slower. I am consuming way less food than I was before this fill and I'm happy with the amount that I'm consuming. It's been a little over a week since my last fill and I think I can honestly say that I'm at my sweet spot finally. Hope to see all of you at Thursday's meeting.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Special K, sorry to hear about your loss, you are in my prayers. Fenton, no more excuses, you need to start right now and get back on track. You can do it. Welcome to all the newbies this is a great support board. I haven't posted for awhile, but am doing pretty good. I just went for fill #4 on Friday and think I've finally reached my "sweet spot". Actually, I'm hoping that I don't need to go for a small unfill since the last couple of days I have had 2 PB episodes. I'm thinking I need to do the smaller bite thing and SLOW WAY down. It was almost 7 weeks since the last fill, so I knew I was getting close. Anyway, I'm down a little over 50 pounds since surgery and feeling so much better. Well need to get back to work, talk later. Keep up the good work everyone.

Scrappy congrats on reaching the 100 lb mark and twoterville, you are truly an inspiration!! Amanda congrats on your triathalon, what an achievement!! You go girl. As far as myself, I am steadily losing each week and for whatever reason, the last 2 weeks have been very good weightloss weeks for me as I've lost 9.6 lbs those 2 weeks. I'm thinking it has something to do with my treadmill routines which I changed up a bit the last couple of weeks, regardless I'm not complaining. I'm closing in on Onederland with less than 14 lbs to go and I'm stoked, Onederland here I come! All of you Shamrocks, keep up the good work, sounds like our band's are doing what they are supposed to. Hip, hip, hooray!!

    I need some help!

Yes, it sounds like the chicken is stuck. I've had that happen a few times in the last 5 or 6 weeks. If you have some pineapple juice or canned pineapple, take a sip or two of the juice and wait for a bit and that should help the chicken go down or it will bring it back up. Try not to stress out this will make the pain worse. I've also heard you can take a little bit of meat tenderizer and put it in a spoonful of water and drink it to help the chicken go down but I have not tried that personally since the pineapple juice always works for me. Goodluck, it will pass.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

The ticker seems to be working properly now, I just clicked on my ticker and it took me their website. Don't they realize we really rely on that ticker and they need to keep it working.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi all, I haven't posted for awhile, but I have been reading. I went for my fourth fill on Monday and after discussing things with my surgeon, we decided to wait a couple of more weeks to see if I'm ready for a fill then. I had been having a few episodes of food getting stuck so we both thought it might be a good idea to wait and see if those issues get better before trying for another fill. I've already scheduled for my next appointment for August 11 and already think I need that fill now. I see where a bunch of you are having trouble updating your ticker. Well, I was too and I'm going to share with you the secret to updating your ticker. I found this on another thread yesterday. Once you follow the steps that I'm going to post, make sure to bookmark the link so you can just go directly to the link to update your own ticker. Here ya go! Click on your "USER CP" see it over there on the right > > > > under Member's area? Then Click on "EDIT SIGNATURE" see it over there on your left < < < < < under "Your Control Panel" Then - Right click the scale/graph/thingy and :crying: Then - select "open link" and the ticker site should come up And enter your new weight Good luck everybody!!

  15. I found tilapia to be "fishy" tasting, but you can squeeze a little lemon juice on it and it takes away the fishy taste. Also, I have found another fish that we get at Pricechopper called Basa/Kwai a vietnamese fish that truly is not fishy tasting and I love it. You can get it in the deli/meat department at Pricechopper. I bet other grocery stores have it too if you don't have a Pricechopper.

    Cost estimates?

I had surgery in March of this year and I also have insurance. My insurance was charged approximately $50,000 after the hospital, anesthesiologist, doctor, anybody else involved was paid. Insurance did NOT pay very much of it at all, less than $10,000, but luckily I did not have to pickup the difference. My experience with hospitals has been that they tend to overcharge the insurance company so they are sure they will get the maximum from the insurance companies.

    My Wife Wants Lap-Band...

I was banded 4 months ago and my hubby was not. He needs to lose weight also and told me he was going to do the lapband as well, but now that I'm 4 months down the road he has still not filled out his paperwork to do so. He is supportive of my decision, which is good, however, I find that I think he is sometimes trying to sabautage (spelling) my weightloss efforts by bringing cookies, cakes, etc. into the house that I really need to stay away from. Other than that, he has been supportive. I hope one day that he will do the band, but I'm not pushing it because I know that if I do it will just make him shy away from it even more than he seems to be doing now. I think my experiences that I've encountered the last couple of months having PB'd 3 times might be scaring him off of having it done himself and he seems to think like you do that he can diet himself. Whatever, he decides to do I will be by his side and support him. I commend you for supporting your wife and I know the both of you will do just fine in your decisions.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Speaking of PB'g, I had my 3rd PB last nite and this time it was at home, thank goodness. The first 2 PB's were on chicken and this one was on baked potato. I was really hungry last nite and fixed baked fish and 1/2 a small baked potato, I had eaten all of the fish and was nibbling at the potato when it happened. I'm still not sure if I was eating too fast or if I ate too much when it happened. I wish I could learn to slow down a little more while I'm eating too, I guess I still have to get a handle on the learning curve of my band. I'm supposed to see the surgeon Monday for possible fill #4, but since I've PB'd twice in the last month I'm not sure I want another fill yet. I still have a few days to decide and I will discuss it with the doctor. I have started getting hungrier between meals so it might be time for another one, I guess I'll see when Monday comes along. I hate these PB's, you think I'd learn by now, being 4 months out, grrrr!!

Lisa, congrats on your insurance approval, it shouldn't be long now before you get a surgery date, provided you've been cleared by Dr. Sabapathy's office. I'm planning on being at the support group meeting Thursday night, so hope to see you there.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi Everyone, it's been a long time since I've posted, but I've been trying to get caught up on all the reading that I've also missed out on. I've been on vacation so much the last 6 or 7 weeks that I got out of the habit of reading the Fifties thread. I've kept up on the March 2008 thread but not this one. I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still doing well with my weightloss and even managed to go to Florida for a little over 2 weeks and only gained 1.8 lbs. I didn't beat myself up over it, I just came home and got back on the bandwagon and I lost 4.4 lbs this week (patting myself on my back), smiling!! To all you newbies out there keep up the good work, I'm only out 4 months since getting my band, but it's the greatest thing that i've done for myself in a very long time. I feel so much better and have tons more energy than I've had in a very long time. Just wanted you all to know that I'm still around and the weight is moving downward in the right direction, I'll post more later.
  22. thin2bme

    Hello Everyone

Scott, congratulations on your weightloss to date, that is fantastic. I'm just over 4 months post op and have lost approximately 40 lbs since surgery plus 20 lbs pre-op and I too feel much better. The lapband has been the best thing that I've done for myself in a very long time. Keep up the good work, the head hunger thing can be a bad thing, as I know it is for me at times too, but if you have a phschologist you can see from time to time, that might help with your head hunger. Even after 4 months for me, I still have head hunger at times, but I do believe it's getting easier. Just remember, if you're hungry eat, if you're not really hungry, drink water or find something else to occupy your time til that head hunger goes away.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Wow, I've been reading for an hour and half catching up on everyone's posts for the last week and half. I just got back from my 2 week Florida vacation last nite and was pleasantly surprised to see that I only put on 1.8 pounds while being gone. I tried to make good food choices most of the time, but I also did not deprive myself from eating some of the stuff that I probably shouldn't have either like pizza, but overall I was pleased with the outcome. Tomorrow, it's back to work and also back to my treadmill and food plan. Glad to hear everyone seems to be doing well for the most part, keep up the good work.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi Everyone, I just finished catching up on the last week's worth of entries, you guy's have been busy out here....and seem to be doing great. I'm enjoying my Florida vacation, been here since late Saturday evening and it's rained everyday. My food choices have not been perfect but could have been worse. I'm not getting in as much walking as I thought I'd be doing either and need to get a handle on it. We brought the dog with us this trip so when he wants to go do this thing outside I make the most of it and walk him a little further than he really needs to (SMILE). It rained ALL day yesterday and the sun is shining now, so guess it's time to get dressed and go take the dog for a longer walk, I'll talk later, just wanted to check in.

    AT&T Employees

At AT&T you are given the option of United Health Care (which is what I have) and I believe there is an HMO that you can choose from. When you are given the options when the insurance kicks in just review the information that is given to you and call the insurance companies to verify if the surgery is covered. Since United Health Care seems to cover some of the AT&T employees like myself, that is probably what you'll want to choose, but be sure to check with the insurance companies before making your choice. Hope this helps.
