    Vitamins

Bariatric Advantage has capsule forms of their chewable Multivitamins. Before surgery I liked the chewable just fine but afterwards my palate seemed to completely reject it and made me gag. Luckily, BA let me exchange the big bottle of chewables I purchased for the capsules instead and I've had zero issues with those. Sent from my LG-H810 using the BariatricPal App

    Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

Good thing I didn't set a low goal.. Still maintaining the 197.8 weight, hoping for the stall to end!

    Valentine's Day Weight Loss Challenge

I had ended stephh's challenge without a scale and a goal of 195 but didn't quite make it.. However I did finally break ground into one-derland!!! So my starting weight as of today is 197.8 pounds and I'll say my goal will be 185.0. ☺ Thanks for hosting the challenge!

    Holiday Weight Loss Challenge!

Sorry I missed the weigh-in Monday, I'm visiting my sister for the holidays and she doesn't seem to have a scale I can find. But before I left I was still circling the same weight as before. Maybe when I get back home after the new year I'll finally be in one-derland!

    Holiday Weight Loss Challenge!

Looks like I hit a stall before one-derland after all.. Not getting below 200.6 right now. Boo

    Water hurts!

I dealt with this too but hopefully it will go away for you like it did for me. As soon as more swelling and pressure goes down in your stomach it will be better. I can drink 4 oz at a time now and it's SO much better. (sometimes there's still gurgling from drinking, but not the awful air pressure!) Good luck!

    Questions for Alcohol Drinkers ONLY!

3 months, no, no, no. I still choose not to eat and drink at the same time just because I don't want to risk getting sick from being full and taking in liquids too soon after that. I don't feel like I'm affected any more now by alcohol than I was before surgery. I've tried wine, mimosas, amaretto sours, but will usually stick to cape cods (vodka and light cranberry juice). Can't drink fast and carbonation of champagne has to go even slower. Still kind of nervous to try my luck with shots, but if someone else who answers has any advice, I'd love to hear that too.

    Holiday Weight Loss Challenge!

201.2 today! I'd hate to stall so close to one-wonderland, but my body seems to know what it's doing!

    ANY TEXAS SLEEVERS?

Houston area here as well. Sleeved 8/17 with slow and steady progress!
  11. I actually just cut my hair after a year and a half this past week to, probably, the shortest length it's been in my adult life (almost like an angled bob with the longest parts still above my shoulders). I'm only three months out and I'm almost to a 50 pound loss, but I'd say for the past few weeks my hair has really been coming out in the shower. I've got hypothyroidism, so hair loss isn't really new to me, and my General Practitioner just changed the dosing on my thyroid medicine, so I'm hoping it will resolve to a tolerable amount again soon. I cut it more for my peace than necessity. My showers would end up almost an hour long just so I could comb the bigger clumps out and then peel off all of the long random strands stuck all over me. Drove me nuts. Luckily my hairdresser said my hair looks healthy, so I'm optimistic about it. I definitely agree about the darker color for a while, but I'd say the length just depends on what you think you can handle falling-out-wise and how you think it looks.

    In need of some crunch?

I found some really great high protein snacks through Amazon. It's great to be able to read all of the reviews too, but I've still ended up buying one that I really didn't like.. Just got these pickle or dill krinkles that are high in protein and super satisfying without actually having to eat a pickle, haha

    Halloween Challenge!

Hey there! There IS a holiday challenge. I can't seem to link on my phone, but if you click on stephh's name and go to her profile, you can view topics she's started which will include the holiday challenge thread. Hope that helps!
  15. I've read enough threads and info to scare myself into wanting to be vigilant with the holy trinity of life after bariatric surgery: Water, Protein, and Vitamins. But since I've progressed to solid foods, Protein shakes have become almost unbearable and impossible to get down unless I want to spend two hours at it. Yesterday marks my 3 months from surgery - I guess I should put that here for reference. So the shakes aren't my real concern, but I was definitely able to average more protein per day with them. With actual food it seems I hover around the 40-50 range when my goal is 60-80. And I'm only able to get about half of my water in with all of that unless drinking water is the only task I give myself for the day. Some of my vitamins are chewable and some are getting exchanged for capsules because the chewable versions of them were actually making me sick instead. Vitamins include a multi+Iron, Calcium, and B-12. I've also had really bad acid reflux that gets extreme when I get hungry. Had my 3mo check-in with the surgeon and he said that's probably just because my sleeve is still so tight, and he's fine with me taking Zantac to help it. Do sleeves feel tighter some days than others? Is it normal for them to feel tighter some weeks than others? This week even swallowing the Zantac or my daily thyroid pill has been a struggle.. It will go down, but I'll almost immediately start getting nauseous. And every time I try and eat this week it feels like I'm barely able to get anything down before I start feeling like I'm going to be sick. I doubt I'm even making it to 20g of protein right now and it's terribly upsetting. I've felt lucky with not really throwing anything up since surgery, but this week I've vomited twice which makes it even harder to eat anything with a raw throat. Is it just a tight tummy week? What can I do when this happens? Would a protein-rich Soup week help me or hurt me (as in prolong a solid food aversion)? Are there liquid alternatives to the multi+iron vitamins and acid reducers? All advice is appreciated!

Having problems with eating and swallowing

@@bariatricwife - does that mean I need to take up tea drinking? Are there any you recommend?

Having problems with eating and swallowing

@@2goldengirl - well the vomiting happened once before I saw him and once after, but it was after eating the exact same thing when I used to have no problem with it before, so I figured it was just that specific thing causing it. Any other nausea or gagging/vomiting is only around drinking or taking any pills/swallowable vitamins. As gross as it is, throwing up water is easier on me than throwing up food..

Seeing large amounts of food make me feel sick

@@PayItForward - I made a similar post to this when I was only a few weeks out. My parents were eating salads and I got nauseous just from the repetitive sound of their forks scraping the bowls and the somehow exaggerated crunching of their chewing. I also think the super sweet smell of the salad dressing didn't help...but a lot of people replied like the ones you're getting, how after surgery we get more sensitive to smells and tastes and can develop food aversions. All of that is true and I agree, but I do think you and I experienced a similar thing. In my case, it luckily got much better once I was able to eat a little more at a time and feel like I was participating in a meal as opposed to just drinking mine while everyone else ate theirs.

  23. I'm almost 2.5 months out, and before surgery I honestly didn't have acid reflux much, so it sucks that after the hiatal hernia repair and sleeve I'm having it almost all day every day.. Probably a month ago I called the surgeon's office telling them I was having AR issues: they said to try pepcid complete. It worked for a while, but eventually I was having to take one in the morning and one in the evening. The past couple of weeks the AR has been getting worse between the two pepcid tablet doses so I called the doctor's office again. They recommended I try nexium but the pharmacy I went to was out so I talked to the pharmacist who recommended zantac because it would work faster. It worked for fast relief but not long-term. Should I follow through with giving the nexium a chance? Or tell my doctor I need something stronger? When I get hungry the acid really starts acting up and I can't always eat right away. But then when I go to eat, I can only manage one or two bites before I feel nauseous and unable to eat. I'm not full but I don't feel hungry, just sick for a while. Then the hunger eventually comes back and the acid is torture all over again! It's a miserable cycle, so I'm open to all suggestions at this point.

    Acid battle.. Advice?

@@Mom26 @@anna9/15 @@magtart Thank y'all for responding So it's looking like it might need to be handled with a script? Or are any of those over the counter, besides the tums of course? I'm so hungry at this point. But the AR is so bad I can't eat, and it feels like I'm completely just going to vomit now. Ugh...
