    January 15th bandsters

Hi Diane, I'm also feeling a little nervous now. I'm starting to realise that this is a life-time commitment - I had my last toasted sandwich yesterday! I know I'll probably never tolerate one once I am banded, which isn't a bad thing! I have to stop reading the post op thread, it is making me more nervous - I realise everyone's recovery is different, but I just hope mine is easier than expected. I too am afraid of failing. This is my last chance to really change my life for good. My mother-in-law doesn't seem to approve of my choice, she has been making some strange comments like "you'll probably have to have cosmetic surgery to remove all your lose skin". Well, even if I dieted in the traditional sense, I'd still have to do that! Anyway, sorry for rambling, this thing has just heightened my emotional state and I'm feeling all emotions in a short period of time. I'm sure I will be fine, maybe a little paranoid! Good luck, keep us all posted, Jen

    Anybody using a scar lotion?

Oh, forgot to add - happy to post some to you if you decide you want to try it. It's about $13 aussie dollars for a bottle. It smells nice too.

    Anybody using a scar lotion?

Hi CN and Cgailee, In Australia we have a product called Bio Oil. It reduces stretch marks and minimises scars. YOu can't use it on broken skin and have to wait until the wound has healed, but it is good for lightening scars/stretchmarks. Would also be good to use to prevent stretchmarks if you were pregnant. Good luck finding a product, Jen
  5. Hi Aprilbene, I"m also on the 15th and I have to fast from midnight, but allowed to eat whatever I want. I didn't have a pre-op diet, I was lucky. Good luck, Jen
  6. Hi RedTulip, Thank you so much for posting, glad to hear you are on the mend! Your post was perfect, I'm having surgery tomorrow and it is good to see the more detailed posts so I have an idea of what to expect. You've already lost 67lbs, almost half way, congratulations! Jen

Thanks guys, I really can't wait for my life to be changed for good.
  10. It's funny you should mention this. My sister's husband has had terrible trouble with vomiting and taking his anti-depressant. I am also on anti-depressants for a neurological dysfunction and migraine and do have reflux, but I think that is just from being overweight. Hopefully it is a thing of the past!

    New to this

Hi Jo, This site is a great place to start with your research. Spend some time reading through the message board - pretty much every question you have will have a thread somewhere. There is a thread just for Aussies. You can also search the threads for the questions you have. Everyone here is very supportive and helpful. I am being banded on Tues in Sydney. March is a very long time to wait just for an appointment. Do you have a GP referral? I got in to see my surgeon within 2 days of me calling and a surgery date pretty quickly. Good luck with your journey, Jen

    Parents & Other Relatives

I hear ya! I have decided to tell my close friends and family. I have to tell my in-laws - they are from eastern europe and will stack my dinner plate a mile high, then when I don't eat seconds, will ask why I don't like their cooking! My mother-in-law is very anxious and was asking me all sorts of questions yesterday - won't you have saggy skin and need cosmetic surgery, you better eat chocolate now as you won't be able to eat it ever again etc etc..... you get the picture. My parents, sisters and DH have been nothing but supportive, I am blessed. I will tell anyone who asks the truth - it is far easier than remembering who I fibbed to!

    I'm back...and banded

Hi comepickmeup, glad to hear you are now at home and doing ok. I'm having mine on Tuesday, so I'm not far behind you. My worst fear is post-op nausea. As a nurse, my anaesthetist is going to get strict instructions for anti-emetics at the end of my surgery! Hope your shoulder pain goes away soon, Jen

Am I too fat for a trainer?

I don't think you can ever be too fat to train or have a trainer. They are experts and are probably have had many overweight clients. You go girl!

    I should have introduced myself...

Welcome Michelle, I also lurked for a little, but couldn't help myself. I now have a surgery date in 3 days' time. I can't wait to see the new me. Everyone is very friendly and helpful on the boards and you'll get a lot of support. Jen

    Pills with the band (Xenical)

In Australia it is an OTC medication too, but the pharmacist has to weigh you and check your height as only people with a BMI over about 35 (I think) can get it.

    can't throw up

I'm so glad for your post becky. I'm being banded on Tuesday and when I stocked up on liquids, I included some little pineapple juices just for that perfect occasion. I"m hoping never to need it, but it seems to work so well for everyone. In Australia, there aren't medications you can buy over the counter for nausea, so I will ask my GP for a prescription for it so I have some on hand.
