Surgery on June 15, In Missouri.

Grandmaofone, I completely agree with ryn2bthin you are absolutely not taking the easy way out these people don't have a clue on what the things that you will be changing and how far your willing to go for YOURSELF, not for anyone else this is the time in your life that you do this for you and if they don't support you then you'll have to use their doubt and disbelief to prove them wrong. I have found out that there are only a three kinds of people out there. The ones that have never had a problem with their weight, the people who have not admitted they have a problem with their weight and finally the people (like us) that decided to do something and make a bold move to choose weight loss surgery as a tool to achieve the realistic goal you set out for yourself. ryn2bthin is right about it being a TOOL my wife's surgeon explains it as a three legged stool you have the surgery on one leg, diet and nutrition on another, and exercise on the last if one of the legs are removed the stool falls. Follow the rules and you do great despite your in laws. I really honestly don't think I have the complete support of my in laws, but you know what I do have the overwhelming and loving support of their daughter my wife to support me. That means more to me than anything, I was there for her surgery and she is just as supportive in my surgery. So you give my Kudos to your husband I've been on that end and it is not easy sitting in that seat. If there is anything questions you want to ask don't worry ask away. My surgery is also on Monday the 15th as well you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Brian (Sorry so long winded I kind of ramble sometimes)

    Just venting a bit.

If it makes you feel any better it took me almost 9 months to get everything done and on the schedule because of insurance and my hectic schedule. There are a lot of people in the same boat as you. Keep your head up. I think the harder it is to acheive something the more it's worth in the end and when you look back and see how far you come you'll also realize how much succeeding in this journey means to you. I actually was pissed when I found out my insurance had just changed their policy on baraitric surgery and required 6 months diet and execrise consultation before getting an approval. With my surgery date coming up on Monday the 15th I now look back and am glad I had the extra time to get my head wrapped around this lifelong change I was about to enter into. Don't worry you'll get there. Hang in there you have friends out here to reach out to. Best of Luck. Brian

    GOT MY DATE - JUNE!

Congrats, I go in Monday. Getting excited!!!!
  5. Polly Wolly, Maybe Rona is right try and see if the liquid diet will help you. Maybe ask your surgeon if it's ok to try the pre op diet. My surgeon is has all of his RNY patients do it. The reason is to shrink the fatty tissue surrounding the liver. Maybe that's a possibility. Do check with your surgeon, they can tell you have been sticking to your guns and they want you to succeed just as everyone else here does too. Best of luck
  6. Lex, Don't worry some doctor's do pre op diet some don't. The purpose of the 1200 cal liquid preop diet is to decrease the size of your liver for surgery. It makes the liver easier to work around, but don't worry follow your surgeon's rule and you'll be ok. That's infrfomation I've heard numerous times in support group, and specifically from a surgeon talking at our support group.

    Any teachers in here?!?

  8. Thanks if you have any questions or if I have any can we compare notes?
  9. My name is Brian at my heaviest in my life I weighed 360 lbs I currently weigh 295. Since graduating High School in 1986 my weight has been up and down ( sound familiar) out of high school I weighed 250 lbs so I've never really been a "small" guy and have never seen a doctor that was satisfied with my weight. Now with type 2 diabetes and blood pressure issues (which both are controlled) and the dreaded sleep apnea machine. I was faced with the fear of possibly shortening my life and not being able to spend the best years to come with my wife and family. Also watching what I thought were healthy people around me not much older than me kick the bucket was weighing in on me (Nothing like a funeral to make you do a little soul searching). So I had been talking to my primary care Dr about the surgery for about the last year and a half, but didn't have the courage to admit to myself that what I was doing wasn't working and I needed something "MORE" than just pushing the plate away. Then love of my life stepped up to be ( unaware to her) an inspiration to me and had the sleeve surgery because she was fed up with the chronic low back pain she was having. After seeing the amazing results of her weight loss September 22 2014 on her 40th birthday I sprung the news that I had made an appointment to go to my first lecture and module one for weight loss surgery. Little did I know the long journey ahead and that it would take almost a year later to actually get on the surgery schedule. Along the way I've had several hurdles to jump (as I'm sure most everyone does) all the conversation my DR and I have were not exactly what my Insurance was looking for we DID NOT have enough conversation about "diet and exercise" for it to count for my 6 months D&E counseling they required. So back to the drawing board. No matter how pissed it made me that all the discussions we had didn't count it really worked out in my favor. For at least the last 8 months I have been blessed with the knowledge I received from the 12 support local support group sessions and the awesome insight that this forum is making available to all that is open to reading and supporting other patients posts. (Drum roll please) if your curious to my date (since I've been rambling on) it is June 15th 2015 and it can't get here fast enough. As I am typing I'm doing my 2 week pre op diet, and thoughts of changing my mind run rampant through my head. It doesn't make a person feel and better when "some" people you talk to about your surgery don't get it. For some reason it's like they think that this is something that you've just woke up one morning and decided I'm going to have weight loss surgery because it's so "easy" (yeah right I've seen what my wife has gone through I assure you it's not) or some doctor is coercing you into it. Here what I say to you not under standers " Drink a big glass of shut the HELL UP!" This is my life, and this is for ME and only ME to make my life better. I say there are two kinds of people out there that don't understand our need for the surgery. Those are the people who have never had issues with there weight and the people who haven't realized they have issues with there weight. I WAS one of the latter but no longer, as of June 15th 2015 my wife and I will be able to start a new long life together. That is my story thanks for caring enough to read it. God Bless to Everyone having Weight Loss Surgery and Great Things to You All in Your New Beginnings... Thank You for Your Support in Advance...

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

I started out wanting the sleeve because my wife had one and with great success but because I have barrets esophagus ( results from acid reflux) and can be precancerous so as long as it is in check no worries. My surgeon wouldn't consider the sleeve. I was more interested in the benefits rather than the procedure I was going to have. From what I've learned along my journey that the bypass pretty much cures reflux.????. June 15th can't get here soon enough.????. Good luck to everyone no matter what or where your journey takes you.????
  12. My took about 10 days for me. Surgery is June 15th.????
  13. June 15th for me? Good luck everyone ????

    Hoping for a September date!,

Don't worry Amanda I'm sure you can do it. Stay focused on the prize and you do just fine. It's ok to get discouraged because women typically loose weight slower than men so don't let that keep you down. This is what this forum is for so that you can find that motivation and be successful. Use the app My Fitness Pal to track your calorie intake. It sounds silly but when you actually document what your food intake is you are much more aware of what your eating. It wouldn't hurt to start counting calories now cause you probably be doing it soon or after surgery anyway. Hope this helps. Brian
