    Protein Drink Flavors

Here's a tip. Use unflavored whey Protein like Isopure. You can add to anything. Just watch adding it to anything 130 degrees or hotter. The protein will degrade at higher temps.

Meds to stay away from forever?

The warning about ulcers is very real. I have a good friend who kept taking ibuprofen after her gastric bypass and she developed ulcers. It was very serious and it put her in the hospital.

Meds to stay away from forever?

Some sleep aids might be NSAIDS like Advil Nighttime and should be avoided. Other meds like prescription Trazodone are fine.

Meds to stay away from forever?

From https://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery Q: Which medications should I avoid after weight loss surgery? A: Your surgeon or bariatric physician can offer guidance on this topic. One clear class of medications to avoid after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is the “Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs” (NSAIDs), which can cause ulcers or stomach irritation in anyone but are especially linked to a kind of ulcer called “marginal ulcer” after gastric bypass. Marginal ulcers can bleed or perforate. Usually they are not fatal, but they can cause a lot of months or years of misery, and are a common cause of re-operation, and even (rarely) reversal of gastric bypass. Some surgeons advise limiting the use of NSAIDs after sleeve gastrectomy and adjustable gastric banding as well. Corticosteroids (such as prednisone) can also cause ulcers and poor healing but may be necessary in some situations. Some long-acting, extended-release, or enteric coated medications may not be absorbed as well after bariatric surgery, so it is important that you work with your surgeon and primary care physician to monitor how well your medications are working. Your doctor may choose an immediate-release medication in some cases if the concern is high enough. Finally, some prescription medications can be associated with weight gain, so you and your doctor can weigh the risk of weight gain versus the benefit of that medication. There may be alternative medications in some cases with less weight gain as a side effect.
  5. I have lost 80 lbs. since my surgery in June 2015. I've been working out an hour a day, every day. I watch everything I eat like a hawk. I've been losing really well, but now I see to be at a stall that is lingering into a 3rd week. I am barely cracking 2 lbs. lost per week. Has anyone else had this kind of slow down during the same time period?

    Calories and being discouraged

Here are the guidelines I received from my nutritionist. Relax, your day looks fine. 400-800 calories a day 70-100 grams Protein a day or MORE 50 grams carbs a day or LESS 64 oz of Water or MORE Multiply the remaining weight you have to lose by 3500. This gives you the caloric reserves you have to draw from as you follow a low calorie diet. Looking at your stats, it appears that you have 728,000 calories at your disposal. That is more than enough to compensate for the low calories. Work up to being active 50 minutes a day/6 days a week

    Worried!

I think you are going to be fine. Your body's schedule for losing weight does not match what you have in mind. All you can do is exercise more and keep your calories under 900 a day. Your body has to finally give in at some point. I've been through a couple of small stalls. They can really be discouraging, but they seem to end after 2-3 weeks. I have found that they are most likely to happen when I'm doing the same thing for several days like same food, same workout.

    Post-op Cravings

I was at the same point around 5 weeks. I would dream of having a nice big salad. I would look at produce in the grocery store and want all of it. Really weird. I went with a friend to Popeye's. I drank unsweetened iced tea while she ate a regular dinner. I took 1 tiny pinch of her biscuit and ate it. Within 5 minutes I felt horrible. My new stomach rejected it flat out. This pinch was barely a 1/4 inch big. Seems that my new tummy only wants high quality food and no junk. I think this is why you may crave fresh, healthy stuff. It is your stomach sending requests to your brain to go find better stuff.

    Feeling amazing! !

You look great! You should really go for it and find a way to help others. The whole process is such a life changing event. It is so natural to want to share it with everyone.

Weight loss slowing down Weeks 11-13?

I lost 32 lbs. prior to surgery. 13 of those pounds were because of the liquid diet. I have lost 51 lbs. since June 15. I have been faithfully going to the gym and working out daily. I started by walking 30 minutes a day and I am now up to 1 hour a day. I also began lifting weights once I got the clearance from my surgeon. The exercise has really helped. I feel better now that I have felt in years. I have gone from a couch potato to being active every day. I think the key to success is to do EXACTLY what your surgeon/team tells you do. I use a food scale everyday and I track all my intake on myfitnespal.com. I bought a fitness tracker, the Misfit Shine, and it provides motivation for the exercise. I almost bought a Fitbit, but they aren't waterproof.

Had good news on the scale today. I was down 3lbs. I think the stall may be over.

Weight loss slowing down Weeks 11-13?

My basic day consists of 2 shakes and 4 oz of food. I'm a vegetarian and I average between 550-750 calories a day and 70 - 100g of Protein. My NUT told me that I'm fine with only eating 4 oz a day. He said the average caloric intake at this point is somewhere between 400 - 800 calories a day. I'm starting to wonder if I should let the protein shakes handle the protein and make my meals non-starchy vegetables since nothing else has changed.
