No support - how do you do it?

You probably kept it from him because you knew he'd be against it. There are many spouses who like their other half fat! It's insecurity on their part. All my friends who had WLS ended up divorced. And almost every one of them made the spouse feel threatened (some even cheated because their husbands weren't motivated). That being said, it doesn't mean you're doomed. You have to communicate and constantly reassure him that you love him regardless. You may have to eat differently and not sit on the couch as much as he does, but don't treat him disrespectfully. Who knows, maybe you'll inspire him.

    I have hit a wall!

You are a lot farther out than me, but I would try increasing your carbs. Not bread and pasta, but healthy ones.

    Splenda?

TRUVIA IS NOT STEVIA! Read the package of TRUVIA and you'll find it is mostly Sucralose and a small part stevia. If you're sensitive to Splenda, then stay away from Truvia and Stevia in the Raw. Real stevia is best as a liquid and does offer some sweetness, but not as much as Sucralose--so big food companies add it in a blend.

    Holiday Weight Loss Challenge!

153.6 arrrrgh. Turkey. Last week is posted wrong. I was 153.2 (not 173.2).
  8. The reason you're on the same diet as the bypass patients is because we are all healing! Our stomaches were cut wide open and the limited diet is for the healing process, as much--or even more-- than weight loss. I'm five months out and can just start to feel safe in consuming many foods. Hang in there, you will find your happy place with good choices and weight loss. Unfortunately, many of us have learned that bad foods are easier to eat than good protein. I have to avoid them in order to continue to lose. Good luck!

    BMI 31-32

@newtum. The stall lasts only as long as you daily weigh yourself! If you weigh only once a week, the stall generally doesn't even show. If you don't lose any weight for a month, then it's not a stall, but more likely the recommended eating program isn't being followed. IMHO.

I think, as in most support group situations, you will receive as much as you give! Go for it!

    New to fifties group

I'm four months out and am in a normal BMI now. I was BMI 33 and age 53 when sleeved. I eat around 1200 calories a day and as long as I get 75-100 grams of protein per day, I eat almost anything I want within reason. Small amounts of veggies and fruit; no potatoes, rice or pasta; occasional treats (ice cream or candy) but in very small servings and only a couple times a week. I concentrate on grilled chicken, fish or turkey. I still drink protein at least once per day. I never feel hungry. I will, however, feel weak if I don't get regular infusions of protein. I carry a sports bottle with a lemonade or juice flavored protein drink mix in it routinely. I'm turning 54 this month, I'm comfortably wearing size 8 skinny jeans, and all my co-morbidities are virtually are gone. I'd LOVE to lose another 20 pounds to be at my 20's weight, but I'm thrilled with where I am right now.
  13. Just wait! Many of us thought that. Wait until you take your first bite of real food. Then you'll start saying, "will I ever be able to eat again?"
  14. I'm only 6 days out and I gulp too! It doesn't hurt me. Did he not make my stomach small enough?!?
  15. I believe my dr and nit recommend no dried fruit because the concentrated sugar and low moisture makes it too easy to get in excess carbs and calories. My personal belief is that if something isn't a trigger food, anything in small amounts is ok. Trigger foods, though, are best to abstain from.

    BMI 31-32

Today is my four month surgiversary and I couldn't be happier. I started at 33 BMI (200 pounds) and have lost 44 pounds. My high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea are gone. I'm wearing size 8 skinny jeans and feel thinner at 156 pounds than I did at 140 pounds 20 years ago. At 53, I'm feeling awesome. People think what I did was crazy, but they can pound sand. I'd do it over in a skinny minute!
