    Liquid Diet-Help

I'm willing to bet most on this web site have had similar experiences to yours, I know I have. Going through this weight loss journey seems to be a series of realizations including ones relationship with food. Boredom, anxiety, are familiar reasons to self soothe with food. My own realization was that I often medicated uncomfortable emotions with food and yes, alcohol. I had to find other ways to occupy myself and acknowledge my dependence on food and alcohol. My ha is and dependence were unhealthy for me and causing detrimental effects on my health. It's a good thing when you find healthier replacements. I had to focus on how was I going to prepare for life after surgery and improve how I coped with my emotions by talking about them or dealing with them. This is a great forum for that!
  2. Hi Jess9395, It sounds like you are KillingIt with your running and eating program! Congrats in the successful changes you are making. I'm sorry the discussion topic was misleading, but I truly wanted to know what people are doing, changes they are making that benefit their health aft surgery and at the same time wondering what their experience has been on BP. Moderation in all things is a healthy perspective. I think we all have little departures from our program and to me, that is normal and necessary. I'm no model of perfection and I envy your ability to eat one donut! Krispy Cream and I had a close personal relationship and had to break up because it is like Kryptonite for me????. I am one of those people who research a lot and have been concerned about GMOs since realizing they were banned in other many other countries. That led me to try to get them out of my diet as much as possible. Anyway, if the choice was Wendy's I have to have a junior burger without the bun. It's gonna happen eventually.

    Clothes

I found a charity gala in my area for women who are coming from abusive relationships. Sometimes they have left everything they own to leave their abusers safely. It seems to ease the pain of letting go of these clothes that I have carefully collected over the past several years.
  4. Thanks for your input, OutsideMatchinsides, and also for giving good advice to people on this site. I do think it is ridiculous to spend a huge amount of money getting surgery and think we can get away eating the same way we did when we were overweight. Each to his own I guess, but it saddens me to see people about to fall into the same trap again. It's not my mission to save anyone, just to be able to learn from others, to express freely my own journey and share the things that are helping me to achieve my goals. Thanks to you and others that are the truth tellers, which I don't mind btw. Part of support is being able to hear someone's opinion without breaking them down or being critical. If someone's thinks Wendy's chili and milkshakes are ok, I'm not going to spend much time trying to convince them otherwise. I try to share my own experience hoping others might find it helpful and try to find ways to comment that don't offend, or if it's not constructive, I just don't say anything.
  5. Laguerre13 I liked your post. Glad to see someone who isn't afraid to color outside the lines occasionally with diet ! It's a long journey that goes way past getting to a number on the scale isn't it? We have to know ourselves in order to make the best choices we can. I'm not sure what you meant by trolls. Haven't seen that yet- what should I look for?
  6. Cowgirl Jane thanks for your comment. What I was referring to is the idea that it seems some on BP don't have an open mind about others beliefs and are, unlike you, ready to attack or criticize anyone who shares their personal experience/ beliefs.
  7. Like you, I think many healthy decisions are personal and dearly held. I'm glad you've had a good experience way here. Way to go Vegan! I'd be interested in knowing more about how to do a Vegan approach ????
  8. Maybe it's more like a Liquid Protein shake frozen.LOL! You do have to admire anyone who overcomes their hurdles in life to become successful. I think about that a lot when I'm starting to feel discouraged or the scale doesn't move as quickly as I want. It seems like we all give ourselves too many excuses for why we can't accomplish weight loss. Behavior is such a big part of the puzzle and I see that Pandora has her routine worked out to the minute, leaving very little room for error. She must've had some great support too, because it's difficult to overcome all the negative things we tend to tell ourselves. Great inspiration to hear how others have made their journey! Thanks for the article Alex.
  9. Update on Do Your Vitamins Make You Nauseous: I called Bariatric Advantage yesterday and they will exchange the chewables that were making me sick for a different multi vitamin????????????????
  10. Thanks to all of you for your responses. It's clear we all have a wide range of responses after surgery to different vitamins. I may have to get the kind you swallow and forgo the chewy ones????
  11. High BP was the reason my cardiologist suggested WLS surgery. I went off medication last month at my surgeon's suggestion and I've not had a problem. Last week at my regular physical it was 110/88. Talk about a NSV!!

    Pre-surgery - Emotionally STUCK!

A lot of emotional preparation goes along with the surgery, as well as the actual prep you do to gather things you will need after. You can use that energy to get educated on what to expect. This is a great forum, but I also watched utubes of others going through VSG. That was very helpful and prepared me for the journey ahead. You could also listen to Reeger Cortell's weight loss surgery podcast ( she's a bariatric nurse practitioner and has a wealth of information on the surgery, as well as great interviews from others who had surgery). Best of luck!
  17. Some of you have probably seen the documentary " The Men Who Made Us Fat" but I just saw part one on my local pbs channel. The reason I'm posting this comment here is because the " low fat" food lobbyists are still out there selling this lie to the obesity laden Americans for their PROFIT. Please see the documentary to better understand why low fat is simply a marketing ploy perpetuated by the multi billion dollar food industry.

    menopause

I'm several years post menopausal and my weight, though coming off rather slowly(10-12 lbs a month) is steadily going down . I've incorporated exercise as soon as my surgeon gave the go ahead, so that has caused my inches to drop as well. I actually look thinner than what the scale says. ????swimming has been the best exercise and I haven't missed exercising except for a couple of really rainy days since May. I think the best news is that the menopause doesn't necessarily prevent weight loss but adjust your expectations- it hasn't been fast.

I HATE exercising! What Should I do?!

I have never been a big exercise fan, although I used to do some run/ walking before my knees started to give me trouble. The funny thing is, the more weight I lose, the easier it is, and the more motivated I've become. I am fortunate to live in the southwest and we have a pool, so I began to do water aerobics ( I have my own routine from some classes I took) and pretty soon, I started to feel so much better, it wasn't such a big deal. It has helped me get leaner, faster. Since muscle is necessary to efficiently burn fat, you'll do great if you just do strength training combined with some walking. Just bought a total gym, since it's fall and soon will be too cool to swim. I'm going to begin to use it next week to make the transition easier. If I listen to music or audiobook, I'm counting on that distracting me enough to get a 30 minute workout. Find some activity you love, because anything you'll actually do is better than " making yourself" exercise????????????????
  21. My first stall was in the 3rd week after surgery. It lasted about 7 days. It was hard not to be frustrated but as others said stay on the program. One morning I got on the scale and there was a two pound weight loss. You're only 5 weeks out so your body is still adjusting to surgery. Try to find other ways to measure your progress besides the scale. Take pictures, measure yourself, try on old clothes. It's reassuring to realize that even when the numbers aren't budging, your body is losing inches. Be sure to get your Protein First , in daily calories.

    Self Sabotage

Words of wisdom from Albert Einstein: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." Previous to surgery, I would always sabotage my diets by "tweaking" them to fit my dietary preferences. I am not doing that now. Staying on my program is my plan, because what I did before never worked! I hope you can use your situation to analyze where things are off track and fix them. I'm trying to imagine how ( and what it will take) To continue this change of lifestyle after I lose the weight. When I find myself slipping into old bad habits, I resolve to watch for these " potholes" in the future. It's a long journey- what we do now predicts how well things will go in the future. Be a problem solver. Look for ideas on this forum. Our veterans are awesome! Best wishes and positive thoughts for your health????
  23. I still thought it was great! Thank you for creating this website????
  24. If you have never listened to Reeger's weight loss surgery podcast please go to iTunes and subscribe. She is a Bariatric Nurse Practitioner and you will find a wealth of info about the surgery as well as inspiration from those who are on the journey. She was at the Obesity Action Coalition's Your Weight Matters 2015 Convention and did some interviews, and one of them was our own Alex Brecher! It is very inspiring to hear his story. Please take a listen
