    Alcohol - when?

I would consult with your NUT. Mine said 6 months (no beer ever). Good luck with your journey!

I would give anything for a Diet Coke...

I can sympathize with you and this is just day one of me giving up Diet Dr Pepper! I always have one in the am (I was never a coffee person)! I am pre-op and my pre-op diet starts next Monday but decided to ween myself off Diet Dr. Peppers early! I think this will be the hardest thing to give up!

    Dr. Kim/traveling patients

@@Timeforme15 The Dallas/Fort Worth area has some great bariatric surgeons! While they don't seem to be as cheap as Mexico it is a great option if you don't want to travel out of the country. I interviewed three surgeons in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and was impressed with them all. I think they all have their cash prices on their website, so you might want to Google the following surgeons to find out more. Dr. David Kim Dr. Clayton Frenzel Dr. Nick Nichoson Dr. Scott Stowers Their cash prices range between 10K - 15K for the gastric sleeve. Oh and as a side note I never thought in a million years that I had a hernia but my insurance would pay for the EGD so I figured what the heck might as well check and see. Sure enough I had one! I have read that roughly 50% of overweight people have them.

How common is a Hiatal Hernia?

@@viv57 I've never heard of it stopping surgery. For a lot of cash patients we actually hope and pray for a hiatal hernia as it greatly reduces our cash price (insurance is billed for the hernia repair and then a small amount in cash paid to the surgeon to do the sleeve at the same time).

What if I don't want to tell?

The only person that knows I am having the gastric sleeve is my boyfriend. Only told him as I needed transportation to and from the hospital. Don't plan on telling anyone else. If someone inquires about my weight loss I will just tell them I am eating less and exercising more, which will be the truth!
  7. I had my initial consult on May 21st and my surgery will be August 3rd. I completed all of my requirements/appointments in 5 weeks and that was even with switching surgeons! My doctor is really busy and has a 4 - 5 week waiting period so thst has been the longest part of the process. You could probably ask your surgeons office how far out they are booked right now? I am cash pay and had originally hoped for a July surgery date but it is worth the wait to go with this surgeon? Good luck with your journey! Your date will be here before you know it!
  8. If you have the option to borrow from your 401K that would probably be a good option. The interest rates are typically low (around 3%) and you are paying yourself back. If you have bad credit most likely any other creditor will charge you 20% +. What ever you do don't take a cash withdraw out of your 401k....the taxes and penilities are ridiculous! Good luck with your journey!
  9. Yeah!!! Congratulations!!! Glad to hear you are in minimal pain!

    Airplane

@@doubledinfla Oh my do I know exactly how you feel! Actually only had to ask for a seat belt extender once. It was the last time I flew in May and I immediately came home and began my weightloss surgery journey. I am a frequent flier and always fly Southwest Airlines. With Southwest it is open seating...so you pick your seat. I am usually one of the first on and pick an aisle seat. I watch as person after person passes me and doesn't make eye contact. Unless it is a completely full flight no one ever sits next to me. Can't wait until I am not a freak show on an airplane! Good luck with your journey!

    Dr. Kim/traveling patients

I am from the Colleyville area and will also be sleeved by Dr. Kim in August. Not sure of any hotels in Colleyville but lots of nice options in Southlake and Grapevine. Both of these areas are close (less than 10 miles) and are really nice and safe areas. Not sure though that you will want a hotel near his office though? His bariatric center were you will be having your surgery is in Frisco, Texas which is quite a ways from his office. Unless you are being sleeved by some other surgeon in his office and then I think the surgery center is in Grapevine. Like Woo Woo said your coordinator should be able to give you hotel info. Good luck with your journey!

How common is a Hiatal Hernia?

@@sleeved_vanessa I will keep my fingers crossed that you have one! The EGD itself is a piece of cake (and I am terrified of doctors, hospitals, etc.). Keep us updated on how it goes!

How common is a Hiatal Hernia?

My original surgeon (I have since switched surgeons) required an EDG anyways. I wasn't even considering the hernia route (even though I was cash pay) because I thought no way do I have a hernia (I had no symptoms). Sure enough I had what they called a very small hernia. I am doing the hiatal hernia cash price with the same surgeon you are using Do you have your EDG scheduled yet?

    No Wonder I Wasn’t Skinny!

Ranch dressing! As a teenager I remember me and my friends eating tons of ranch. On salads, dip raw veggies in and on French fries (I mean come on...potatoes are a veggie!) I would eat two huge salads a day thinking I was eating healthy. Not so much when you use a whole bottle of ranch a day!
  17. Great topic! I have been making a list of goals for each 10 lbs that I loose. My first few rewards revolve around moving more.... 10 new workout songs from iTunes, new running shoes, join Zumba classes. My big goals (once I loose 100+) are things like a new wardrobe and a beach vacation. So much better than the rewards I use to give myself after my Weight Watchers weigh ins. If I had a lost (no matter how small) I would treat myself to whatever I wanted for lunch that day (and I mean WHATEVER!!!)

    United Health Care PPO

@@Chylyn7 haven't had my surgery yet but completed all my surgeon requirements last week and should get my surgery date this week! Will probably be the first or second week in August! I am having it done by Dr. Kim in Colleyville, Texas.

    United Health Care PPO

I have United Healthcare but each persons coverage can vary. I contacted UHC in advance and asked about coverage and requirements. In the end I decided it would be best for me to just pay cash for the surgery (I didn't want to delay the process by doing the required 6 months supervised diet). Good luck with your journey!

    FMLA

Not sure if it is just my employer...but the specific reason why I needed time off (ie baristric surgery) was not asked. It asked my doctor questions like how long does the patient need to be off from work, is this a situation where the patient will need tine off in the future for treatment, etc. Talk to your HR person, they cannot discuss with others (even your manager). Good luck! Ugh.ll that should be bariatric surgery!,

FLMA How/When to notify your employer

Hopefully my surgery will be in August (still waiting to confirm) but I have already reached out to my HR Director. They sent me all the paperwork and asked me to return it in 15 business days but that may just be our company policy. I also had a form that had to be sent to my doctors office to complete and they have to fill it out and send it directly back to my HR. I only plan on taking 5 - 7 days off unless something happens and there are complications. I personally know quite a few people that have had lapband, sleeve and bypass and no one took more than two weeks. Even my sister who had the bypass said she was fine within a week (and she is a nurse...no desk job). But everyone is different!

I need to save $3,000 in 3 months

I have heard people talk about Credit Care which is basically a medical credit card. I think the have 0% financing for the first few months. Maybe that is an option? Or could you possibly pick up a part time job for the next couple of months?
