  4. I had my surgery on June 8th in Tijuana, Mexico. Drove myself from Scottsdale to San Diege (aprox 6 hours). Had surgery on Mon. Released from hospital Wed morning. Left Mexico on Fri. morning and drove myself home with absolutely no pain or even mild discomfort. Went back to work on Sat. I went back to playing tennis 3 weeks after surgery and only wish I did it sooner! Acid Reflux is an almost guarantee due to the small size of our stomach. My Dr started us on Prolosec 3 days after surgery. Other than that, I am not bothered by it at all! Good luck!

Congrats on your perserverance and success. You are right about the process requiring a great deal of toughness! Every great thing in life also requires that so I see you bound for great things!

    Losing it

Give us some more info, please. Starting weight, date of surgery, water per day. protein per day. Sample daily meal plan and exercise plan. I am a slower loser but still losing. We would love to help but need some more info. Thanks!

Should I take the money and run?!

I own a specialty shoe store and the majority of my clients are over 50. When customers ask if we offer a senior discount, we tell them shhhh! We charge a senior surcharge for being old and cranky! Age is like our weight, hard to tell when looking at someone else!

    Sleeve limitations

I know the answer we would all like to hear is that you can eat whatever you want and your miraculous sleeve will only allow you to have 3 Reeses Pieces, 1 Margharita and half a slice of Chicago Deep Pizza. The programs designed by our surgeons and NUTs are really the way we are intended to eat. If you know protein is alway first, followed by healthy carbs like veggies and fruit, we will not have much room for error. I am not very far out but I watch our experienced/at goal leaders like a hawk! I am 62 and have always sabbotaged my "diets" in the past and I have been given a clean slate with a special tool to help. To use an old, old saying "Today is the first day of the rest of my life". At my age, it could also be the last! LOL Actually, I intend to experience and enjoy many, many years of healthy living and eating!
  12. I had my sleeve on June 8 and am a very slow loser, but still a loser! How much did you lose after 1 week? You don't tell us your starting weight of BMI but the smaller you are at start, your age, and your personal metabolism all affect. There is a wonderful article rogofulm (sp) usually posts that is really helpful. As for your bleeding, you might want to consult with your GYN. How many ounces of water are you getting in every day and also, how many grams of protein? It takes a lot of water to burn and flush fat! Good luck! It is maddening but it is working!
  13. How cute are you! You are doing fantastic!

    Lower priced Dr.'s?

I know Mexico sounds a bit shady but it could not have been any better. When I had my surgery done in June 2015 I had a gal from Wyoming who had the surgery last year and had lost 85 poounds and was at goal. She brought her 16 year old daughter because she is already Type II diabetic and the long term use of her meds would severly compromise her liver. I cannot emphasize how wonderful everything was. Consider it - you will be amazed!

    Surgery in Mexico

I was sleeved on June 8, 2015 by Dr Elias Ortiz with ALM (A Lighter Me). There is also another Dr. Ariel Ortiz with CC - another group. I drove to San Diego by myself from Scottsdale, AZ. Remy from ALM picked me up at the parking lot at the border (US side). He is so very charming and friendly and drove myself and another couple of gals he picked up at the SD Airport to our hotel. We stayed at the Grand which was absolutely stunning and has a "medical" floor staffed with a full time nurse and with special beds and baths. Free room service provided broth, popsicles and apple juice. 60" flat screen TV's - flat out gorgeous! Next day we were picked up and dilivered to the hospital where the care was amazing. Rooms were extremely clean but not ultr-modern. All equipment was definately state-of -the-art. I would say there were probably 3 nurses for 8 patients. All the nurses and staff spoke great English! Care was super and felt individualized. On the morning of the 3rd day in the hospital we had our leak test and then we were released. Abraham (another cutie) took us back to the hotel where we received our meds and instructions and were reassigned rooms. He came back after a couple of hours and took us on a tour of TJ which included the best homemade ice dream you ever tasted! We then visited a trust worthy Mexican pharmacy where you could purchase Prilosec, vitamins, etc. We then went to a shopping area for souveneirs and had pictures taken with the Zebra Donkeys. We really bonded with the group of people we went through our surgery with and I am still in touch with several of them! We did the same thing (shopping etc) on the next day. On Friday, I was driven back to my car. After lots of hugs, I drove the 6 hours back home! All in all, it was more like a spa vacation than a medical trip. I could not have been more impressed. ALM is sponsoring a cruise next year for its alums and staff. I really want to be there! They are also expanding their plastic surgery options - again my hand is raised.
  17. Wow! Great progress! do you attribute the sleeve to the difference in your hair color? LOL!
  18. I had the same worry right after surgery for the first couple of weeks. Liquids were very easy! My protein drinks had to be sipped a bit more but pretty easy. I though my Dr had not given me the tight/small stomach everyone else spoke of. When I started on pureed/soft foods it was a whole different deal. We are just lucky that getting liquids is easy! Don't worry, you will definately meet your new stomach very soon!

    Just scared myself!

Nothing in life comes without some risk, I had my sleeve done in Mexio and could not be happier. Almost all the Dr's not only double staple but overstich the sutures. Leaks are extremely rare. Think of all the complications that come with obesity, and those are almost guaranteed!

    Week 4 and concerned

Hang in there my friend! What you are going through is a lot like what we go through as women giving birth!! At this point, you would say, never again! In a couple of months you are going to feel like a million bucks! By the way, not sure how your weight loss is doing on the scale, but you also have a ton of inflammation & swelling which makes it look like you are not losing. You are! Congrats! You are over the hump!

    Week 4 and concerned

@Mooseknuckle When did you get your knee replacement? This is a much, much more difficult surgery than our sleeves were. I had my knee replaced 13 years ago. I now play tennis on it 3 times a week. You have a doubly tough recovery period ahead of you. You do need to get your Protein and liquids but you also need to stay on top of your PT. I am sure you are walking by now and flexing (what a b***h) to get an optimum outcome. My surgeon said "it is really just a carpentry project". Don't let anyone molly coddle you. The more you push yourself with your DR and PT's recommendation the stronger and better the outcome. In a few more weeks you really will feel like a new person.

When did you get your sleeve?

  24. Yep! No problems with any seasonings. Good luck!
  25. Now that's interesting that your doc says carbonation is okay! I really wish these bariatric surgeons would all be consistent with their rules. I think it would make things so much less confusing for folks. Amen Sister! Can't believe the variance!
