    Looking for preop friends :)

Savannah, I've had several surgeries. If you want/need to talk with someone, let me know! I'm here to support you.

    Looking for preop friends :)

Got a pre-surgery date of August 24. Probably have surgery September 10 or 16!! Happy dance!! (With some trepidation)
  3. @slvarltx. Wow, I have to say that's confusing. I was going with bypass at my surgeon's suggestion because it had the most long term data, was the gold standard, had better weight loss and didn't cause GERD. So hard to know what's right. I work about things like ulcers, strictures, malabsorption with bypass but also feel like I'd benefit from the threat of dumping with high sugar and high fat foods. I guess I just need to trust my doc, take a deep breath and go with her recommendation!

    Looking for preop friends :)

@shuttergirl. I have crazy migraines. I spoke with my surgeon and my nut about them. Both were very supportive and gave me some ideas. Pm me if you want to talk about this! I'm so sorry you deal with the Beast (as I call my migraines)!

    Ability to Exercise

I keep reading about people who are a month post-op and exercising five days a week for one to two hours each time. One person said they were walking 3.5 miles two days post-op. Were those who were exercising like this already exercising prior to surgery. Honestly, I can't imagine being able to do that with my weight and bad knees. (I will try swimming but still....That seems like a lot of exercise for people in really bad shape. How'd you do it?

    TOMORROW! EXCITED AND SCARED

Good luck Paula!! Hope all goes well!!
  7. @losing_the_band. Hope they are able to get your sleep study taken care of quickly for you and that you can stick with your original date. My surgery has been put off for a month due to the slowness in getting some hematology reports. It's made me want to cry and throw a hissy fit! I just keep trying to remind myself that everything happens for a reason! Good luck!
  8. Today is the day for you!! Praying you have a sense of calm and that everything goes splendidly well!!

    It was too late...

((Beautyinprogress)), I am so very sorry to hear about your dad. The loss of a parent at any any age is gut wrenching and to know that this surgery may have saved his life has to be particularly hard. I'm praying for comfort and delight in good memories with your dad. As you undertake your own investigation into WLS, I understand wanting to honor your dad and learn from his situation. I would also encourage you to be personally ready for the surgery and the huge life change. When I lost my mom, people told me not to make any big changes in the first year. For me, that was very wise advice. Best of luck to you!

    Lactose intolerant help

I've been lactose intolerant for about ten years. I tried the Lactaid milk and still had problems. However, since finding out about Fairlife Milk, I'm enjoying it again. And it has something like 13 grams of protein in a serving and less sugar than comparable milks. I love it! And my NUT approved the 2% chocolate milk for an occasional treat.

    Weight stall

Emily9654, Thanks! I've used that before and handled it okay. I wonder if bypass patients can use it since it is time release. Anyone know?
  15. It's so hard to wait!! Spent the last two years in treatment for food addiction, had my required three month supervised diet in addition to that and was all set mentally for an August 20 surgery! Unfortunately, my hematologist keeps wanting to run tests ( 6 weeks of testing now), and we won't know the results in time for me to do a two week prep for surgery. ???? Then my sister and my father are both heading out of town. Both have asked me not to have surgery until they are back. Dad won't be back until September 12!! I know it's only an additional month but it seems like forever. I had wanted a good three months of my new life before the pressures of the holidays.

    medicare

Medicare required three month medically supervised weight loss program documented by doctor. My out of pocket cost is nothing as I have both Medicare and a supplement.
  17. I wouldn't have even looked at your arms if you hadn't said that. All I saw was a beautiful woman with a beautiful figure!
  18. citygirlinburbs- I love what you said about WLS being the only surgery we feel we're being deceptive if we don't tell folks. I'm not sure it's the only one, but certainly darn close. I had a hysterectomy and didn't tell a lot of people anything other than I'm having surgery and when they asked said it's personal. Thank you for sharing that! I've been really struggling with feign deceptive particularly because all I told my dad was that I'm having surgery and that it was personal when he asked. I've had major issues with my sense of integrity, but you are right, there are many surgeries that we don't necessarily volunteer the type! Thanks for helping me gain perspective!

    My nsv this week!

Happy dance!! That is awesome!! And inspiring. I need to be doing the same thing but as long as it's over a hundred degrees, I'll keep procrastinating!! Dreaming of a hot summer next year where going for a walk or even jog is no big deal because I'm not wearing a hundred+ pound coat!! You go girl!!

    Feeling alone through this journey

((Rollingring)) count me as a part of your support group. We all need to band together! (Pun unintentional!) I feel very alone too sometimes even though I have two good friends who know I'm going to have it and are very supportive. I don't know that anyone who hasn't been there can know how demoralizing and how much effort it takes to just exist when you have over 100 pounds to lose! Or how simultaneously scary and exciting the prospect of turning your life inside out is! You are not alone!!

    Gherlin

I know that Sleevers lose the part of their stomach that produced gherlin, therefore reducing appetite. Does the same thing happen to bypass patients?

CPAP Machine. I have no love for it.

Great ideas. I'll check into those. I've had to turn off my humidifier because of how much condensation is getting all over me! Even got a hose over and it didn't help. Nothing like waking up wet from your CPap!
