    So tired

I was what I consider severely tired for about 6 months postop. At first needed 3-4 small naps a day just to get through it, and it went down to 1 short nap/day (preceded by a bone-weary fatigue that really incapacitated me) for the next 6 months. I'm 14 months out and realized recently that I have more nap-less days than days when I need a nap. So improving slowly but surely. I did have to up my B12 which was low normal and I think that helped. Also started having a morning coffee and I suspect that helped too.

    Dealing with Overeating

Great subject. I'm a year out and find that the old rules of limiting meals to 20-25 min, not snacking, are slowly but surely going out the window. I'm fine eating a reasonable sized meal with the proper nutrition (high Protein, low carb). Nighttime snacking has always been my downfall and if I ever regain, I just know that will be the reason why. Nighttime snacking to me is absolutely an addiction - one that I love and hate at the same time. So while I don't typically overeat at mealtime, the overeating starts when the sun goes down and the snacking begins. I'll be interested to see what others have to say on this thread.

    Phantom poo

Nope but love the term :phantom pooo:! Could it be constipation? Is your poo more solid than it was before surgery? That may cause your symptoms. I'm just about a year out. Right after surgery I only went #2 every 4-5 days, then was very constipated for a couple of months (rock-hard poo), then got ridiculously gassy for a few months until I practically eliminated breads, and am now back to normal both with regularity and consistency. Sorry if this is TMI.

    Swifter the kitchen

Patience with your body is the best advice I can offer. I'd be surprised if you did any serious harm but please give yourself the time to heal properly! This is a long road and the last thing you want is to flirt with the dangers of complications. With your extra energy at this stage of your recovery they say to walk, walk, walk.

    Expected Weight Loss

I'm 6 months out tomorrow, 51 yrs old, starting weight 268, and have lost 76 lbs. I'm at 192 now. I hope this helps you but individual results vary widely so I'd urge you to do your best and not compare yourself to others or to any arbitrary expectations.

    Trying Yoga?

I love yoga. It's a really cool experience and not like any other exercise. Having said that, the class I've been taking for about 3 months now is a combination of yoga, Pilates, tai chi and meditation. It's low key and you do what you can but afterwards whoah! I am really energized. My balance has improved noticeably, my abs are a bit stronger (though I won't lie, they're nowhere near strong; I can't do a single situp on my own!), and I find that my flexibility has definitely improved. I hope you have the same results with your yoga class!

    Debbie Downers...

I have a friend who is super opinionated and when I sat down with him to tell him of my decision, I prefaced it by saying that I had made a decision I wanted to share with him and that I wanted this to be a judgment free conversation. Right before digging in I said again 'remember, no judgment'. After I told him, his response was he hoped I wouldn't end up like so and so who was still throwing up his food x years out. Even though it was Debbie downer-ish, considering how much more opinionated he normally is, it showed a lot of restraint!

    I'm a size.... WHAT?!?!

Hi everyone! So the other day my Mom and I went Christmas shopping together. I also wanted to buy pants for myself as mine are pretty much falling off. I've been wearing 18W or 20W for years. I told my Mom that plenty of contributors on this forum say there's a big gap between sizes 16W and 16 and thought I might be stuck in that no man's land. So I try on a pair of 16W jeans. Too big. Next, a pair of 16 (regular size!) jeans. ... too big. Next, 14s. They fit perfectly. WHAT!!!! In my heart of hearts I never thought I'd ever see that number on a tag on my clothing. Woo-hoo!

    I'm a size.... WHAT?!?!

Of course when I got home I washed the jeans and worried that after a run through the dryer they wouldn't fit. But they still did. I still can't get over it. This is wonderful. And so surreal.

    Frustration.

Sorry it's been difficult dealing with the surgeon's office. This is quite common, based on what I see on this forum, and is unfortunate because it's so unnecessarily difficult. I'm one of the lucky ones who had a superb surgical team. As for the liquid diet, I got very light-headed the first few days but no headache per se. I'm curious to see what others experienced. Good luck on this journey!

    3 months post op

I'm at 3 months, 5 days and just reached the 55 lb mark. Comparing yourself to others is dangerous though. Compare yourself instead to what you would be weighing now if you hadn't embarked on this journey. That's guaranteed to put a huge smile on your face and will keep you motivated. And one last piece of advice that I've seen here and have adopted with great success: I don't use the word 'only' when talking about weight loss. "I lost 55 lbs!" Sounds so much better than 'I've only lost 55". Celebrate your achievements!

  21. We've seen the term head hunger used with great frequency. What does it mean to you? What do you experience? How do you differentiate head hunger from empty-stomach hunger? What do you do to avoid it? And when it strikes, how do you manage it?

    Holiday Weight Loss Challenge!
