  1. I'm Monday October 5. Finishing nearly 2 week of Optifast and will be on second day of clear liquids tomorrow. I am nervous although I have thought about this for such a long time. I've been so hungry through the liquid phase, I can't actually imagine not being hungry!
  2. looking for some support - here's my long story made short. I was scheduled for surgery 8/24 I got to the hospital and during pre-op work-up, I mentioned my sore throat. Also I had a low fever so the team sent me home with no surgery. I rescheduled for October 5. My instructions for next few weeks were as follows- 1,000 diet, low carbs, nothing fried, low fat and no sugar until 6 days before the rescheduled surgery when I would resume Optifast (4 days) followed by 2 days of Clear liquids. Been 2 weeks since the cancelled surgery and I can't seem to get back on track. I worked SO hard the first time (was very exacting) and was so in the mode, and now my sugars are up, so is my weight, and I am feeling lousy. How can I get back on track? Frustrated and disappointed with myself!
  3. We are date twins!! I'd love to keep in touch. I'm keeping it relatively secret so I don't have a ton of support. I'm in CT. hi Journey Inside - I am also in CT Who is your surgeon? Dr Neyra in Stamford. You? Dr Neil Floch of Farifield County Bariatrics. Surgery will be at Norwalk Hospital. We are neighbors!! We should also keep in touch. You're a month and a half before me but around the same time regardless. Yes it's good to have a support system! Is Dr Neyra in practice with Dr Bonheur?
  4. I'm so sorry that happened to you! Of course safety is their #1priority, but I would be bummed too. Hopefully the next month or so goes by very quickly and before you know it, you will have your brand new sleeve. Just keep your eye on the prize! Thanks so much for the encouragement. There must have been a good reason for the cancellation and I'm ok with that now!

  6. Saw my surgeon yesterday for pre-op final visit. Got my blood work, chest x-ray, and 10 days of Optifast shakes and bars! My practice does 10 days of Protein shakes followed by 2 of liquids only. I am very excited and I can't wait - surgery is Monday 8/24 Yet I find myself emotional and teary-eyed at times and I don't even know why. anxious maybe??

    this is really real!

Oh I am so sorry to hear that! I had mine on Monday and I am shocked how hard it has been. I have been very nauseous every day and every single time I try to drink anything. It is so hard to reach my liquid intake amount. Today was better than yesterday and tomorrow will be better than today, I have to keep positive. We can stay in touch for when you have it in October and maybe by then I will be encouraged and can encourage you. Right now I have been a bit down but I can see I will start to round the corner soon. Glad to hear that you improve every day! In some ways it''s hard to get a take on all this since everyone's experience is different. Are you actually not hungry? (I can't imagine not being hungry - story of my life!) Are you able to drive yet?

    this is really real!

I am the same surgery day and have the same exact emotions. I feel like I am breaking up with food and super sad. I am ridiculous.Since we had it the same day, how are you doing? Feeling? What has been your hardest part so far. I am having a hard time swallowing down anything. I am liquids in, not all of them but some but man is it hard. hi NJ mom! I wish I could tell you how it was - I checked in and got prepped - when the anesthesiologist came to see me and check me over he sent me home! I'd been at the shore for several days and had a sore throat - I thought it was nothing, but it looked bad to him - plus the fact that I was running a low-grade fever. So no go - which I think was probably for the best. Back on the books for early october. I hope that you are comfortable and recovering well!
  10. How do I join a FB support group, and is it private?
  11. Has anyone had this experience??? I was scheduled for today, but... I'd had a sore throat for days, but was not really 'sick sick' so thought nothing of it, although I did call my docs office over the weekend to make sure. He said most likely it would not be a problem. i got up at the crack of dawn, arriving at the hospital 6:00 am for my 7:30 surgery with my entire family in tow. Still had a sore throat. My temperature was just over 99. So between those 2 factors, and based on the fact that I have a narrow throat passage making intubation more difficult, they sent me home. Mad? No. Disappointed? yes, very very. I'd been on 10 day Protein diet and 2 day all liquid and was absolutely starving by this morning. I was so ready. I saw my primary doc who thought the surgeon may have overreacted, but nevertheless respected his decision. She put me on a course of antibiotics just to be careful. Kind of hard to move ahead after this. I also can't go back to old habit of eating my emotions. : (
  12. Nylaj - Wow I knew it could make recovery more difficult but seriously, death? I am actually good now. Rescheduled for October 5 due to my scheduling complications not theirs, and I'm fine with that.
  13. I'm October 5. I would already have this behind me, except for the fact that when I went to check in for surgery this past Monday, 8/24, I had quite a bad sore throat and a low-grade fever. The anesthesiologist said no way would he proceed. So I went home. I am feeling tired, deflated, and using food as a drug again. I spent 2 weeks on liquid Protein and then 2 days on clear. Was literally starving by the end...and so ready for the surgery but...so I'm on the rebound. Don't know how to get my excitement for this and mojo back!

  15. Thanks all. Due to logistics (on my side, not docs) I don't see this happening until probable early october. I can live with that, except for the fact that my head was so in the game for yesterday, and due to knowing myself and my old habits I have a fear of once again going on a binge (knowing how tough that 2 week liquid fast was, and in reaction to it) and putting back on those 15 pre-op pounds I fought so hard to lose. I know it was for the best and my safety, of course. But that is the logical and not the emotional side!

    Any 8/24 sleevers?

  17. This decision has been years in the making and I finally have my date, 8/24. Pre-op diet to start 8/12. Both excited and very anxious! I'm in southern CT. Anyone else?

    Any 8/24 sleevers?

to Aliciasbrewer - I totally could have written exactly, word for word, what you said. I have never even been close to thin. (ok so I was when I got married, for like 5 minutes, 30 years ago!) I am so used to being overweight (bmi 51) that I can't imagine not being so. Or for that matter buying clothes that don't have an x in the size. At the same like you, (and all of you) I am nervous but so excited to have a new beginning!!
  19. wow if it's that good I'll give it a try. Thank you!

    Any 8/24 sleevers?

Hey - hello from up north! I'm in southern Connecticut, just outside NY and just found this link. I am also on for 8/24. Just finished day 5 of 10 day liquid Optifast. I'm beginning to get very antsy and wish I could bite into something - Jello doesn't cut it! My doctor said that the last 2 days (after 10 day opti) are Clear liquids only. This is especially tricky because my husband and I are taking our 2 teenagers on a driving vacation this coming week, returning only the day before surgery (was only week that possibly worked!) I am ok walking into restaurants with my shake boxes and asking for a full glass of ice, but I don't want to lose resolve and give in to temptation. And I am hungry a lot of the time. Any I need to figure out what clear liquids I can manage while on the road. Any advice would be welcome! Thanks and good luck to all as we wind down ...
  21. I am getting very antsy on the pre-op (in my case Optifast) liquid regime. I almost convince myself that trading a shake for 'real food' is fine - but messing around with prescribed plans is what got me here in the first place! For the 'clear liquids only' 2 days - I need help. No coffee I think... I hate popsicles - ehhh on Jello - hate the aftertaste of snapple I don't know what to drink! broth is ok, but I will be traveling many hours in the car on at least one of the liquid days so it has to be something that is easy to get/manage. Anyone find 'clear liquids' that are satisfying?
  22. I am also August 24. It seems like a lot of people have that date. My doc requires 12 days of protein drinks followed by 2 days of clear liquids only. I am on day 4. Day 1 was pretty awful but it has gotten better. What I miss most are the wonderful summer peaches. While I don't actually think that a peach will mess this up, I am committed to actually seeing this through.
  23. I started 10 day Optifast yesterday, which will be followed by 2 days of clear liquids only. Sleeve surgery is 8/24. I am hungry, cranky, a bit nauseous. Can anyone tell me if this gets better as the week goes on? Thanks!
