  1. Okay, since surgery (vsg Feb 2016) I've tried to stay very low carb and feared carbs in moderation because I didn't want to end up overeating them and gaining. Well now I'm finding myself having a really hard time staying low carb and I keep binging on carbs. I keep trying to get back on the very low carb wagon and I'll do good for a day or so but then over indulge in sugary junk. I'm gaining and freaking out because I am not sure how to fix this.

So I'm considering not being so restrictive with carbs to see if I can overcome this all or nothing mentality and find more of a balance with my eating so that I can continue towards my goal. Thoughts???

  2. My insurance is one of many that requires a 6 month medically supervised diet before they will approve surgery. My bariatric office has a medical dr. that is supervising me during this time and I go in for another appt. with her on Tuesday after having been on this program for 2 months now. And I've not been sticking to the program well. I've tried but man, I'm so burned out on dieting that I'm having a hard time sticking with anything consistently. I'll do fine for a couple days and track everything I eat but eventually I give in to the hunger and rebel against the deprivation. I totally feel like a failure and I'm in a funk about it. I dread going in there and having gained weight or at least not having lost any. Blah! If I could diet and be successful on my own I wouldn't need the freaking surgery! Sticking to a 1500 calorie low carb diet just feels like torture... mentally mostly. I know I need to get my act together and jump through all the necessary hoops though. Thanks for letting me rant. Anyone else have a hard time with their supervised diet?

  3. For those of you waiting for an appt at Carolinas Weight Management... if you know that your insurance requires a medically supervised diet then you can go ahead and start that program with them while you wait for your seminar and surgeon appt. That's what my husband and I have done because I wanted to get started asap. My sister in law got sleeved with Southeast and has had great results

  4. God doesn't make mistakes. This baby was conceived for a reason even though it is at a very difficult time for you. I pray that you choose life for your baby's sake as well as your own. An abortion on top of recently having surgery would be very risky for your health and its something you would likely regret the rest of your life. You can do this.

  5. Just wondering if anyone here had wls at the same time as your spouse. My husband and I are considering sending our kids to my mom's house for a week or so while we have surgery on the same day. We would have a friend bring us home from the hospital. We figure by doing it all at the same time we can support each other through the various stages and have someone to commiserate with, ha ha. What say you... wise or naive?

  6. I thought dumping syndrome only happened to bypass patients. The surgeon I met explained that it happens when the person ate sugary food. Normally the sugar wood be diluted in the stomach but because a bypass patient no longer has the stomach valve, the contents go straight into the intestines. The sugar still needs to be diluted so Water is pulled into the intestines and that's what causes the pain and sweating and diarrhea. But sleeve patients have the stomach valve so.... the surgeon said it wouldn't happen. I'm guessing it does happen though? Probably because the stomach is too small to dilute the sugar enough?
