    My Fitness Pal

I have an EXTREMELY generous job that gave me 6 weeks paid medical leave so I go back July 22! I'm currently on soft proteins like deli meat and cheeses. My surgeon does liquids for 3 full weeks postop instead of having a puréed stage because he said he finds the idea of pureeing a good meal disgusting lol!

    Bummed with this section...

Wellllllll! My name is Richard and I started this journey probably....my freshman year of college so almost 10 years ago. I have tried personal training, weight watchers, Atkins, south beach, the zone, IIFYM, paleo, and probably things I'm forgetting with the exception of pills/drugs to no avail. In late 2012, my legs began to swell and retain Water to an uncomfortable point and my doctor suggested looking into bariatrics. My insurance at the time didn't cover it, so I worked with what I could. Last year, I got a new job and our coverage began immediately so I met with my surgeon. 11 months later, I am sleeved. I am 3 weeks and 2 days out, struggling to get down my liquids and Protein every day. It takes me about an hour and a half to eat 2 ounces of food, so that's probably not good. I just get this tight and nauseous feeling every time that I do. I am currently seeing someone who is a 'chaser' so...not sure how that is going to work out once I've deflated lol. Anything else? I don't know I started writing this two hours ago and then had to leave suddenly and came back and lost my train of thought! You can contact me off forums on instagram at VSG_Rich or RGodfrey09@gmail.com or I check these often! All the best, I'd love to hear your journey!

    My Fitness Pal

@@CharmedRyan I had my surgery 3 weeks and 2 days ago. I feel like I drink all day until I sleep and eat as quick as I can. I think I need to start setting timers and reminders and try to follow a schedule.

    MyFitnessPal

Thank you for the tips! I am currently at 3 weeks and 2 days post op, and just began soft foods coming off of full liquids. I will work on increasing protein by adding extra to my shakes if I can!

    Weight lost over time

I was sleeved June 10 at a weight of 394 and as of today am sitting at 362. I have been at 362 for the last 5 days. I think everyone looses at a different weight. Hoping for success like I see here from you guys!

    My first pureed meal!

The rice was VERY easy, but Mexican rice tends to be very soft so it was easy to turn to mush in my mouth first.

    My first pureed meal!

So I did this too for my first puréed meal just now! I had 1 oz of rice, a little shredded cheese, a tsp of sour cream mixed with salsa verde, and 2 oz of grilled chicken. It took me about and hour and a half to finish that but it was SO good.

    Post Op diarrhea normal?

See i called my surgeon and he flat out said, you're on a clear liquid diet so there will be no solids til you have more than just broth and water. I got the same advice from the hospital but surgeon was like heh no.

    Post Op diarrhea normal?

I had that, and then with full liquids it switched IMMEDIATELY to the opposite problem now I'm wishing I had the runs back.
  13. The breath thing I never knew was from Ketosis!!! I was worried BC I was sleeved June 10 and I wake up like damn... This taste is nasty!! Did anyone have irritation in the back or their throat with that?

    11 days post op

I am... Let's see 18 days post op now, and YES! I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the long liquid tunnel, but I was pretty miserable for the past week or so about only having liquids. It does get better, and honestly it inspired me to start adding random things to my protein shakes to make them better. Today I am very proud, I got 70 grams of protein and 500 calories with only 12 carbs which is way more than previous days. The problem in currently having is very difficult/hard BMs which is not very fun. Finally moving on from liquids only on Wednesday and the first item up is Eggface's Ricotta bake!
  15. Okay so it sounds weird, but my dad gave me the tip of bouncing up and down. It REALLY works for the gas that gets stuck in your chest/ribs area!
  16. A really good thing to do is ask your nutritionist. Be honest with your food journals, write EVERYTHING down or use myfitnesspal or something like that and show the log to your nutritionist. There may be something hidden in the foods that they see that we normally wouldn't see. This happened to me pre-op. On my medically supervised 6 month diet, I gained a few pounds slowly over a month. For the next month, I sent weekly logs to my NUT and she would tweak things or give me suggestions and that really helped. You can do this!!! Another big thing I've learned reading on here is that even if the scale isn't moving, you may be shrinking otherwise. Keep us posted and good luck!!!

    Loose skin...

I need to order some Palmer's Cocoa butter before I forget that! I don't have loose skin yet at 2 weeks, but I want to minimize as much as possible!
  18. I am right there with you guys, the liquid diet is for the birds! I fully understand it's purpose, I just wish it was 2 weeks long instead of 3 weeks. So ready for a scrambled egg with Cholula on it!(it's a hot sauce) I hope my sleeve can handle the sauce.... As for the Protein shakes, I am using the Premier Protein premade shakes. They come in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and are all pretty tasty. Tomorrow, I am going to try adding some PB2 to the Chocolate one and seeing how that goes. I am having a problem getting more then 1-1.5 in a day though. They are 30 grams of protein each, so if I keep having 1.5 thats 45 grams of protein. Really wish I could choke down the other half and get 60grams. Maybe as time goes on? Anyone else having that issue of not meeting 60G protein goals in the first few weeks? Also, LUCKY! I wish mashed potatoes were on my full liquids diet! That sounds delicious right about now.

    Gummy vitamins!?

I'm curious as to this as well. I have a chewable multivitamin and am on my 3rd one, all make me gag. I used to do a gummy multivitamin and would really like to use that again, but don't want to hurt my sleeve. Anyone had success/failure with gummies? I do a dissolvable Biotin that is delicious, wish my multi could taste like that.
  20. What a great thread! I can't WAIT to start pureed food. Right now I'm on full liquids, and it seems my doctor has a really strict plan for us. 1 week of clears, 2 weeks of full liquids. 3 weeks of only liquid after the 2 week liquid only pre-op diet is NO BUENO! Did anyone else find they were sick of sweet after full liquids? Most of the Protein shakes are sweet, and then sugarfree popsicles and sugarfree pudding are also so sweet. Ready to chew!

    Anyone with BMI 55+?

Hello! I was sleeved on 6/10/15 and had a BMI of 55.1. Since the sleeve, I have dropped about 21 pounds or so in 9 days? Likely mostly water weight, but I'm loosing a couple pounds a day. I would love to hear from people who are further out than I and started with high BMI's like me! It seems a lot of people on the forums had between 30 and 40 BMI's.
  22. The only thing that got me through preop diet was just continually thinking 'it's only two weeks!' The preop diet TRULY is a test of strength and endurance, and you all can do it. I was sleeved last week, and let me tell you the other side feels so weird. The pre-op diet really prepares your mind and body for this, then post-op we get to build ourselves back up by slowly reintroducing our body to proper nutrition. The headaches and lack of focus and dizziness were all present for me preop, but none are post op! You can do it!

    Repeatedly overeating

I think this is why my doctor has a really conservative post op diet. Only water and broth for the first week, can add protein shakes for weeks 2-3, mushy/pureed foods week 4-5, and then the first solid foods at week 6. Right now I'm in the water only stage, and REALLY ready to have something else but I plan on following his guidelines to a T to prevent overeating/eating the wrong things too soon.

Yeah Dr. Englehardt did mine on Wednesday at North Central Baptist. I was there Wednesday-Friday

    BMI of Texas

I had my surgery on Wednesday June 10th. They were great! Preop and postop everything has gone as expected so far! Aimee and Jodi, the dietitians, are both fantastic. Never met Dr. Seger or Dr. Duperior but I hear really good things about them as well.
