    Did anything change for you?

Speaking of how much people eat... I had an appointment w/ my families attorney this morning and we went to eat afterward. I ordered a small cup of soup and watched as the table of three, extremely thin, women beside us ate a PILE of two appetizers, huge salads w/ croissants, huge meals and dessert. I was completely and thoroughly amazed just watching those folks inhale all that food. I mean, where do they put it?? I really didn't eat huge amounts before, but my band makes SO much difference. I don't desire to eat until it makes me sick. Granted, I'm still new to this, but I ADORE feeling in control!

    Port incision size

My stomach had to be re-routed below my diaphragm (was entirely in my chest cavity) and hiatal hernia. SO, my port incision is about 3 inches long. I have another incision that is about an inch and the other three were about 1/2 long. I also had 4 other little pin prick size punctures.

    Itchy!!!!!!!!!

I could peel my skin off near my scars. I do fairly well during the day, but at night, they itch SO badly. Any suggestions? I'm not scratching while awake.:help::help::help::help::help::help::help:

My nutritionist and my surgeon both recommend to "stop eating when you don't feel hungry any more"... That mentality has helped me quite a bit.
  8. I can't wait to buy a pair of jeans from GAP... It's been several years since I was able to do so, and I can hardly wait!! And, I hope to move out of C. J. Banks into Christopher and Banks! WOOHOO!! We'll see how my head gets around this when I get closer. Congrats for making it into the 'regular' misses sizes!!! What a great accomplishment!

    Itchy!!!!!!!!!

FANTASTIC! I'll go get some of that BandAid stuff!!!! I wonder if I wasn't allergic to the steri-strips or the glue. I do have reactions to latex and some other synthetics (such as the elastic in underwear and socks, for CRYING out loud!) SO, who knows what's causing it. I know when I heal I do itch, but OMG, this is BEYOND that 'healing' itch. Of course, this is my first ever surgery and maybe I'm just over-reacting, and this is normal???? I emailed my doc's office and my surgeon called and asked if I had discharge, etc, which I don't because the incisions are fairly well healed (as far as no scabs, just skin). SO, I'm hoping it just eventually fades out. But I am going to try the bandaid stuff.

    50 Down

CONGRATS!!! WAY TO GO HEAVY!!! I'm SO excited for you!!
  12. In the week since I had surgery on December 13, I have lost 18 pounds!!! It has, indeed, been a fantastic decision. I know this rapid loss won't continue, but it truly made me feel fantastic stepping on that scale. I get to start softs tomorrow. I'm kind of scared about moving to that, but I think it will be ok. I have great resources and support. I SO hope that I can be down more than 100 lbs by next year!
  13. kyteachjules

I dropped 18 lbs in the first week!

I lost 13 the 2nd week. I haven't weighed since then, but, I feel awesome. As far as working out, I walk on my treadmill every night and then I also do a lot of yoga/pilates/movement. One of my favorite things, completely not from any of those is 'sitting' on a wall, doing push-ups on a wall and doing sit-ups on a big exercise ball. I do a lot of work w/ my big exercise ball (have learned a ton from the Physical Therapists at school... I teach special ed). I'm not a traditional, go to the gym kind of chick. I wish I could get in the Water and swim, but my doc wants me to wait at least until I'm 6-8 weeks post-op.

I'm amazed you all are getting so much down... I can only eat 2 oz or 1/4 cup at a time. Of course, I had some other issues... my stomach was in my chest cavity, they cut my diaphragm and moved my stomach down to where it was supposed to be. And, my surgeon told me that I had a 'long, skinny' stomach (go figure, huh?). Anyway, I have a 4cc band... My 'pouch' is smaller than a golf ball. I honestly feel FULL after 2 oz. Like I said, I found it so interesting that we all can eat so many different amounts! I had a great New Years. I had a piece of Tiliapia that I ground in my little chopper. It was HEAVENLY! I also sneaked a little piece of crab from my hubby and chopped it up. YUM!

    Itchy!!!!!!!!!

I took some benedryl in the middle of the night last night and it helped. I've been reading a lot about scars and etc online. And talcum powder and Eucrycin (sp?) calming cream have been recommended, as well as Vitamin E oil. Thanks for the info...

    My DH needs your help

I truly hope his surgery went well today. The day of my surgery, after I got my first dose of the 'happy meds' thru my IV, all I wanted, besides my husband who was already laughing at my goofiness, was my cat. And, being the sharp and multitasking thinker that I am, immediately began to think about the 'death' cat that had been in the news earlier in the year. SO, in the mean time... I wasn't thinking about dying myself, just having a cat that may be confused as a 'death' cat if she were there with me. And, I laughed ALL the way to operating room. When all else fails, laughter helps!

OHOOHOH! I'm going to have to try that!! I have been CRAVING guacamole and that sounds like it might calm the craving. OR, I'm just going to go to the mexican restaurant and get a bowl and a spoon!

OMG folks, did you all know you can make omelets in a freezer bag and boiling them? I did it for my class for our Christmas Party. Paula Deen does them (yeah yeah yeah, I know, she's the queen of fat) but, they really do work... You just put your egg and toppings in the (HAS TO BE A FREEZER BAG) and smoosh it together. Then fix a big pot of boiling Water and drop it in... SO, watch it for 5-6 minutes. You avoid the fat from butter and milk and it makes a lovely omelet. I too, am a big SALSA fan. I put it on tons of stuff. I also go to Panera a lot and get the low fat chicken noodle, broccoli Soup and puree it when I get home. Another idea was I made low fat, crust-less quiche w/ chopped mushrooms and broccoli. I put them in metal cupcake tins and baked them and froze them (they are about 2 oz a piece). I also made vegetable soup and froze them in 2 oz containers to take to school w/ me. I love tuna, but I've never been much of a mayo or miracle whip tuna girl. I make it w/ Grey Poupon or spicy mustard. It lowers the fat dramatically, compared to regular tuna. I also chop green Beans regularly. I also ADORE black beans, pinto beans and great northern beans. Salsa or chow-chow great pureed in w/ those. My 'treat' has been low-fat, low sugar orange sherbet. YUM!!!
