My NUT guidelines - please share yours

RapKim... I do not have a fill, yet. I'm hopeful that he will inject me on my Jan 23 appt. My stomach was very small and I have a 4cc fill band, so I'm pretty restricted, just from my band, itself. My incisions are healed completely and I'm massaging them w/ Vitamin e. They look pretty good right now. As far as exercise, I walk regularly on my treadmill or at church w/ a friend (M, W, F) and on T/Th I do Tae-bo and Pilates at school w/ a group of friends. I also do 15 minutes of mandated activity w/ the kids at school by dancing or doing a pseudo yoga w/ them every day.

WORKING OUT and Proud of it!!!!

Wow Sherry! I work out w/ friends at school doing Tae-bo and Pilates on T and Th every week. And, on M, W, F, I either walk on my treadmill or meet my friend at church and walk in our Christian Fellowship Center (AKA Gym!). We do goofy stuff like play one-on-one basketball and sometimes just walk and dribble basketballs. I honestly think the key is consistency. I also started wearing a pedometer at school everyday, just to see how many miles I go daily (my average, believe it or not is 2.2 miles! I'm a little OCD, I graph everything!). I also have ankle and wrist weights that I use quite often during the day. I'll put them on during our 'state mandated 15 minutes of vigorous activity.' We dance (Hokey-Pokey, Cha-cha slide, electric slide, chicken dance, etc) 3 days a week and do a mini stretching/pseudo yoga routine 2 days a week. I move a lot, but I think I need to start doing some more strength training.

A Little Help for my Dec LBT friends

I'm not living to climb on my scale. I took it as an omen that my formerly beloved scale went belly up while I was in the hospital. It worked perfectly up to the day I left for surgery. I came home to it being kapoot, and tried new batteries, to no avail... RIP Hometics Digital Scale! SO, I vowed that I would only weigh at the doctor's office and he supports me in that decision. I'm feeling more easily satisfied since I've been on solids and have continued to lose weight. And, I started a pilates/tae-bo class this week! I do know that I'll hit a plateau... it is inevitable. But, I hope this forum will help keep me grounded and informed!

    Lettuce....

I, too, craved salad and had one the first day on solids... have had no problems. Good luck!

    No Shrimp??

I did well w/ shrimp and eat LOTS of seafood. I especially like shrimp and I've eaten scallops and oysters! YUM

    Wierd Tummy Noises!!!

LOL I'm glad I'm somewhat NORMAL!!!! I keep hearing weird noises, also! One of my students hugged me at school the other day and heard the weird sounds and asked what was going on in my belly! And, the rest of my goofy class had to come listen! HAHA!
  10. Well, honestly, I've never really felt discriminated against. In fact, random people usually come up to me and ask questions, opinions, etc when I'm in stores. My best friend continually is embarrassed when we are shopping ... one time a lady at Kirkland's walked up (they were carrying these GAUDY quilted jackets for ladies at the time during Christmas) and asked which one I would prefer and WHY! The same day, we were at a Chinese restaurant and ... (keep in mind that the restaurant was PACKED) this lady walked up and asked me for directions! Honestly, it happens ALL the time! I'm sorry our society is so shallow!

    New forum

Hey ya'll! I'm 32 and married (2nd marriage for me and thank GOD for him!) and from Abraham Lincoln's birthplace, Hodgenville, Kentucky. We do not have children, but look forward to having them in the future. We do have two adorable, precious and precocious feline children inside with us... and another 8 'barn' cats outside! That's what we get for living on a big farm, I guess! People just randomly drop off animals! I was banded on December 13, 2007 and have lost around 50 lbs from my initial meeting (June) until now. I lost approximately 25lbs in the first month!! I'm SO glad I did this!!

Who know, who doesn't, and why???

I've had the opportunity to have several friends who have had the surgery and am glad that they have been a support system for me. However, sometimes, I just get sick and tired of talking about it. Yes, I have made a life-changing decision and have had the surgery. BUT, that truly does not define WHO I am. I'm still going to be opinionated, outspoken and an all around fantastic person! I just won't be as ROUND as I once was. I too, did this to help in advancing myself in my career. I want to go into an interview to be a school principal looking like I will be capable of walking those hallowed halls and be able to keep up with the students! However, one of my favorite things, lately, is seeing someone I haven't seen in a few weeks... and them telling me how much they think I've changed. It's a really good self-esteem booster. I want to remain humble, but DAMN it feels good!

How do you know you're full?

My doc and nutritionist tell me to stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore. So, I've been doing that... "full" isn't necessarily a good thing. I've only eaten once when I felt really, really full. And, I had these small bursts of air... not belches or hiccups, just little poofs. I assumed that meant I was full.

My NUT guidelines - please share yours

If you are having problems w/ serving size... check this out from the Kraft website: Guide to Healthy Living Serving Sizes I can't tolerate any more than 1/4 c or 2 oz. And, a liquid cup may be different than how much a dry cup holds. It is easier for meats, or more dense foods to measure weight by using a small food scale. (never knew I'd actually use that nutrition stuff I learned in college! LOL)

    Just wondering?

My surgeon INSISTS that I shouldn't have it at all. And, quite frankly, I've not missed it much. I drink a lot of ice tea w/ equal or splenda and I've always been a water drinker. SO, that helps. I go the little pint bottles of water and they fit in my purse!! So, you can be out and about and sip, also! Plus, the 'shake in' Crystal Light, S/F Koolaid, Propel, and teas are good! I don't really miss my soda...

AWWWW! I'm so sorry. I really hope you get well soon!
  18. Tomorrow is 4 weeks! And, I visit my doc/nutritionist on Friday and get to start solids on Friday! WOOHOO

    NSV . . . kinda? It's the "girls" .. .sorry guys

WOW! Congrats! I did the bra gig about 2 weeks after my surgery. I'm down from a 46DD to a 42 C or D depending on the cut. Isn't it fun to get new stuff? I got a great right hand diamond ring for Christmas and was going to go get it resized (from a 7 to an 8) and decided not to... I'm going to wear that ring in a few months!!!!! I'm in need of finding one of those plastic ring guards thingies for my wedding band and engagement ring. I have a TON of jewelry that I'm going to have to either resize or... wear on different fingers! Anybody else having shoe issues? I have lost a lot of weight in my feet already and have a fantastic wardrobe of shoes (I work VERY near the Zappos.com warehouse/distribution center/store and have some FABULOUS shoes!). Betsey Johnson, Christian LaCroix, Dolce & Gabbanna, OH MY! I have even contemplated stuffing the toes!!!

Anybody else advanced to real food?

I'm supposed to start regular food after my appointment on Friday. I still am eating 1/4 of a cup at a time. I eat a lot of tuna, I put tiliapia or cod or haddock in my toaster oven or in my oven sprinkled with a little Old Bay garlic and herb seasoning. And, Chicken of the Sea makes these small (2.8 oz) tuna or salmon plastic cans that are excellent (the salmon ones come in teriyaki, BBQ or garlic)! But, mostly.. I'm still soupy! I did, however make some guacamole and pureed it up into a soupy mixture. It was FANTASTIC! I honestly am CRAVING a salad!!! I want to try one SOOO bad!

    Caffeinated or DeCaffeinated?

Dietitian and doc told me to stay away from caffeine all together. I'm assuming that it is for the same reasons... stomach irritation, makes it easier for one to become dehydrated... I'm on decaf tea (Lipton) and it seems to be pretty good. I was a green tea drinker previously, but it isn't decaf!

    A 'feel' good!

SO, I have a parent of one of my students who had RNY (bypass) the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and I had my banding on Dec 13. I saw that parent today and she looks EXACTLY the same. She told me she had only lost 10 lbs or so! ANYWAY, my aide looked at me after she left and said, "Are you sure she had surgery? When you walked in the first time less than a week after your surgery I could tell...!!! I can tell every day there's something different!" ANYWHO... I am SO glad that I made this decision to have the band. It is a HUGE boost to the ego to trot (yes, trot, lots to do!) down the hallway at school and nearly everyone I meet tells me how good I look and how much I have changed! WOOHOOO!!:whoo:

Pain under my large incision 2wks post op

My surgeon said the pain was because my port is sewn into the muscle. He said it would take a little more time to stop feeling pain there.
