    I haven't told any one!

I am the opposite. I tell everyone and anyone that asks me how. I just got a tee shirt made up that says, I just lost 100 lbs interested? ask me how. I want to tell everyone, especially the obese people I see that can get healthy. I recently took a cruise with my husband for our 25th, there was a young man on the cruise, he had to weigh at least 450lbs or more and his wife was heavy but no where near that. I wanted to speak with them so much I was busting, he could not breathe and filled his plate with nothing but junk. I know you cannot force this surgery on anyone, but maybe in some way I could have helped and encouraged. That is what made me think of the tee shirt idea. I told my doc and he thought it was great. I just got it yesterday, so let's see if it even encourages 1 person, it will be worth the 30 bucks. For the people that have negative view, all I have to say, that's there problem not ours, and if you feel secure enough in your decision on surgery, then who cares what they think or say, that's there insecurities.
  2. Not to be a downer, but have you thought about the possibility of not being ready to start a new job 3 days later. You should be off at a minimum 1 week, maybe even 2. You are very tired after surgery, and everyone is different, but you may have discomfort, it's probably going to be difficult, that's kind of cutting it close, please just consider this. Either way good luck to you, hope it all works out
  3. Of course, it wouldn't be normal to not be nervous. As I have said before, I just put it in my head that this had to be done like having my gallbladder out. I didn't think of it as elective, I thought of it as a medical necessity and then I was not as nervous and did not even consider backing out. I am almost 10 months out and would do it all over again in a second. Good luck
  4. I am terrified of surgery, especially general anesthesia, so when I decided to do the sleeve I even surprised myself. I just kept telling myself, this is not a choice, this has to be done, just like I had to have my gallbladder out, and I felt better, still nervous of course it is only normal, but I stopped freaking out. I am now 9 months out and feel amazing, down 96lbs, and would do it again in a second. Good luck
  5. I was just wondering why we sabotage ourselves. I know of course this is not for everyone, but I went to a support group and 6 out of 8 were feeling somewhat defeated and addicted to carbs again 1 was pre-op and 1 was only 2 months post op. I was surprised but truthfully it made me feel not so alone. After being 6 months out, my doc said, "now that you can eat anything", and all of a sudden it was scary to know that I could now eat those carbs, I had been forbidden to eat the first 6 months. I knew there was no carb police, if I had indulged the first 6 months, but I really stuck to the program 98%. Now I crave the carbs, crackers, bread, pretzels etc. The more you eat the more you want. We did this surgery to get healthy, yet we all seem to have something in common, that could put us right back where we started. I do see a psychologist, and she says it really does not matter what put us there in the first place, what is important is stopping the behavior now and moving forward. Just wondering how others are coping and doing, and how many of us have this in common.
  6. Like I posted a short time ago, my hardest habit to break, are carbs. I want crunchy, salty things, which after the first 6 months, now 9 months out sleeve, I did not touch. Now that they are allowed, I want them and crave them, having a very hard time staying away from them. I am seeing a psychologist, so in time hopefully this will be a habit behind me forever. I am tired of obscessing over something and caving in. I will even go to a store to get it, if it is not here.

    Depressed?

I felt the same way. I was a very slow loser the first 3 months and the amount I did lose I could not see at all. All of a sudden I started to lose weight rather quickly and finally at about 60lbs down, I could totally see it, and so did everyone else. I am now 9 months out and 96lbs down, so close to that 100lb mark, and I feel amazing. I really thought I was going to be the docs first failure, and I am not. It will happen and you will see it, all in good time. As I used to read be patient, it is hard, but be patient, good luck

    Vitamins

I was told never to use gummies, too much sugar and not good for you. But that's my program, you need to ask yours. They want us to use the dissolvable vitamins, after 3 months I could not stand them any longer and went to swallowing, except the vit b12, i still use the kind that dissolves, good luck

    Need RNY but...

My surgeon said I could take advil or celebrex if I take 3 carafate a day. I had right total knee replacement 4 months after the sleeve, and the pain was unbearable. That is what my surgeon said, but of course you need to check with yours, good luck.

    Did you loose friends?

I have been so fortunate to have very supportive friends. No one has made a bad comment, and they all could not be happier about my weight loss, no matter I achieve it, as long as I am healthy. Only my neighbor, who is at least 100 plus pounds overweight, made a comment one time when I was riding my bike, and said if you get any skinnier we won't be able to see you. I was not upset at all, I felt sorry for her, and her unhealthy ways and with her children too, who are overweight, and I just laughed. We talk all the time. If people have their own issues and take it out on you, just think it;s their problem, not yours, who cares what they say.
  11. I am kind of feeling that way right now too. I am 9 months out and not so much sugar, but carbs, like bread, Pasta, and crackers. The more you eat the more you want, and crave. It is terrible and I m so mad at myself for getting out of control again, but I have thankfully not really gained, I am just hovering around 173-174lbs. I told myself to reset and get off these carbs, good luck to both of us.

    One week post op!

At 4 days out I was only allowed full liquids, maybe clear liquids and protein shakes, but we were not allowed pureed foods until week 3, good for you, glad you are feeling better.
  13. That would be nice. I have heard if you have your dermatologist, primary doc, not bariatric surgeon or plastic surgeon, document that you have some kind of rashes or irritation from the extra skin, especially tummy, the insurance will pay. I am only 9 months out, and I am not finished losing weight, hopefully, and was told to wait until you are at least 18 months out, so I am not sure.

    Dumping

With her angry attitude I would not even bother answering her. No one forced her to eat the cheese, like her accusations sound. Just my opinion.
  15. I thought I was going to be my docs first failure. I was losing so, so slowly in the beginning. I was so upset like you and really could not even see any weight loss. All of a sudden the weight just started dropping off, at least it felt that way, it was like 3-4 months before it started happening, and next thing I knew I am now 9 months out and down 95lbs. So believe people when they say, as long as you are really sticking to your docs program, it will happen, I don't care what kind of job you have. My program does not want us to eat back the calories we burn, unless you run a marAthon or something like that, your body will adjust, Good luck and like someone else said breathe
  16. I agree ask your team. I was told 6 months, I am now at 9 months out and still take pepcid 10mg 2 x day. I had terrible gerd before surgery but had a hernia repair also, just afraid it may come back, and some days i do have some gerd, so I just keep taking it. Will see doc this week and ask him.

    Concerned on post day 5

Right after my surgery, 9 months ago, and for about 3 months, I was sure I was going to be my docs first failure, and I told him. Now I am down 95lbs and cannot believe it myself. My husband keeps reminding me of when I could not see the change and the weight loss was so slow, but 95lbs in 9 months is pretty good, good luck and try to stop worrying, it really does work, love my sleeve.

    Surgery May 31st

After surgery it is very different, you don't have the same appetite, cravings or capacity to eat what you did before sleeve. It is very hard to compare pre and post sleeve eating, it really changes quite significantly. Hang in there it will be worth it, lovin my sleeve, 94lbs gone, and 3 medications.
  19. Yesterday was my 9 month surgiversary. I cannot believe how close I am to being down 100lbs since the month before surgery. This weight loss includes my preop. The scale finally moved, down 2 lbs today. I bet I could eat the same thing exactly as I did yesterday and would not lose an ounce, that is what is so weird about this journey, no rhyme or reason, like I have written about before. Not complaining, still very grateful for my sleeve, and it still amazes me. I just cannot wait until I lose the other 6lbs to have reached that 100lb goal. I see my doc the 12th and would love to be able to show him that. I gave myself 1 year to lose that 100lbs, so there is still time. Hope everyone is doing good.

    Alcohol

I was not allowed alcohol for 6 months. Just the thought of straight liquor on a pretty much newly sleeved stomach is not a good idea, in my opinion. See what your doc says if you tell him/her. Why would you want to take a chance on damaging your newly sleeved stomach, please try to be more adherent to the program. Ulcers and Gerd can happen, and that would be pretty uncomfortable. I am really not trying to judge or preach, may seem that way, but straight alcohol can't be good.
  21. I had vsg 8/3/2015, down 92lbs, love my sleeve. since the sleeve i had a total knee replacement in December, horrible surgery, still in therapy. anyway the knees being so painful was one of the reasons i did the sleeve. i was not going to put 268lbs on new knees. my left knee is work related and i do not feel ready to do that one yet, so today i had my second carpal tunnel decompression, being the left was done in 2014, just trying to get healthy and painfree. I had this surgery done at the same surgery center as i had the left one done. The nurse kept looking at me and she said you have lost 100lbs, and showed me in 2014 i weighed 277lbs. Wow i gotta tell you that felt so good to see that. i also was a little upset that it embarrassed me that i had let myself get that overweight, anyone else ever feel that way. The weightloss has slowed, but i would still like to lose another 25lbs, just keep trying. thanks for listening, oh and i can cross my legs now and be comfortable.
  22. I am 8 1/2 months out and I was craving and hungry from day 2 and it has not changed. The good thing, and I am so grateful for, the sleeve stops the overeating. I also just do not give in to the cravings, or at least I did not for the first 6 months. I have indulged a few times in the cravings like bread and crackers, mostly carbs, but trying to be very careful I am down 92lbs. It is not easy, as the saying goes, they operated on your stomach not your head. I am so grateful for the restriction, good luck.

    Learning from my mistakes

I read the emotional first aid kit and thought it was great. Intuitive eating I tried years ago, and I asked the NUT when does this start and she said it could be tomorrow, 2 years or never, so dropped that concept. You should check with your nut, but at Cedars sinai in LA where I had the surgery, there is a scale, sort of and it measures so many things, the weight of each arm and leg, metabolic rate etc, hope your doc has one, and that is where it says 1100 calories is my limit or I will gain weight. My next appointment 5/12 I will have them do it again and see if it changes. Good luck.

    Learning from my mistakes

I have my metabolic rate checked at surgeons office, and I was told not to exceed 1100 calories a day, ad I am same height as betty boop, just a suggestion, why are you consuming so many calories, i am 8 1/2 months out, seems like alot to me, not judging just telling you how my program is.
  25. I was on full liquids for 2 weeks, then week 3 soft/pureed foods. eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt without fruit, applesauce, soft fish, still had Soups, like tomatoe, it tasted so good, enjoy
