  1. My insurance requires 6 months of a supervised diet, which I am just starting the 3rd month of. I had the same feelings that you did, however, once I met with the NUT and I realized all the changes that needed to be made to be successful, I was happy to have the time to change all of my bad habits. Slow and steady wins the race. It will go by faster than you think!!

  2. My pre-op tests will include: labs (including Vitamins and minerals, I swear they took 20 tubes of blood), an upper GI x-ray, an exercise evaluation, an EGD, and a psychological evaluation. I think every surgeon is different though. I don't have any co-morbidities though so I didn't require a stress test, sleep study or pulmonary function test.

  3. After my initial meeting with my surgeon, he set a weight loss goal for me of 10 pounds, I think because they want to see that I am trying to change my habits before surgery. I went to the NUT at my surgeon's office and she has been amazing. We are slowly removing sugar and Diet Coke from my diet and adding Protein and Water. This is to get me ready for the surgery. Ask the surgeon for a NUT recommendation, it is likely they work closely with one or two. I would follow either the surgeon or the NUT that is recommended diet as they will be the experts when it comes to bariatric surgery.

Also, it sucks that your PCP isn't on board. Mine is very supportive, which I think will ultimately help with long-term success. I hope everything works out for you!

  4. I am only month 2 in my pre-op testing, dieting, etc and I also have found myself somewhat "obsessed". However, I agree with everyone else who wrote that it is a good thing. It is smart to research and make sure this is 100% the right move, as it is a major surgery. Good luck to you - stay obsessed! :)

  5. My first appointment was yesterday and I too, am deciding between procedures. The lapband isn't on my list, I am between the bypass and the sleeve. My surgeon said both would work for me and I have time to decide. My husband is supportive of both. Good luck deciding. I am going to go through my upper GI/EGD testing to find out if I have reflux before I make a final decision.
