Most people are shocked to see you if they have not seen you for a while. Some have not even recognized me and only did so because I happened to be with my husband.
Your good friends are simply so happy for you that you get great big hugs, the people you thought were friends but really are not will usually ask inappropriate questions. Or if they know you have WLS because you told them, they will always have some story of someone they knew that either had horrific complications or gained all their weight back. For me, I simply ignore these people and simply show up with my positive attitude. When they see the transformation they usually shut right up.
Most of the time they are jealous that you are doing so great and don't know how to handle it. Many do not understand that obesity is actually a disease and needs to be treated for long term success. I do my best to educate them and sometimes that works and other times it doesn't.
In the end I really don't care what people think, say or do. I did this for my health and I have accomplished that!
    I win!

    Hi B,
The sad truth is that people really do treat people differently based on their weight. I noticed that as I got closer and closer to my goal weight, people who never looked at me let alone talk to me suddenly started to takenotice and be a bit more friendly. I even had a waitress who served me lunch every day by my office not only talkwith me for the first time but she actuallt sat at my table and left me her phone number on the back of the check. I was flattered but also a little ticked off because prior to having the surgery she never said a word to me and I'll guarantee she didnt even recognize who i was.
    Hope you are doing well!
    Mike

Your body is healing. Your caloric intake is so low your body will go into starvation mode-your metabolic rate slows as well. Hang in there. I just got over a 17 day stall at 6 weeks post op. It will go down, have patience. Good luck!

I was told the 7 days of liquids was to reduce the size of the liver to help keep it out of the way and reduce any possible injury to it.

@@TN_Gal -- I'm about 14 weeks post-bypass and only had to do one day of light eating, then one day of liquids -- everything went great, and I was SO thankful I didn't have to do the two-week liquids-only diet!

I was planning on telling anyone that asked and close friends. But one person in my life has completely ruined that for me. I work with him and felt that I could tell him anything. I knew he would try to discourage me but not to the point of making me feel bad. Now I will not tell anyone else before or after the surgery because I do not want to hear the negativity. I understand if you don't agree or support the decision but you don't have to constantly put someone down or sabotage the process. It's my decision, my life, my future and it will be my success. I will not allow negativity to drag me down. We're doing this for a reason, we aren't doing it for anyone else except ourselves. Can't wait to hear how the surgery went.

@@Phoenix2015, you are 100% on point. You're not doing this for anyone else but yourself, so their opinions don't count. If you're on YouTube, there's a woman named Clusie, she is hilarious. But she made a good point, there will always be people who "just don't get it". Don't let their misunderstandings become your problem.

This is exactly why I am only telling people that need to know about my decision. I don't need anyone trying to influence my decisions. I know that the possibility of complications is NOTHING compared to the fact that there is a 100% of complications in my life if I keep doing what I am currently doing. I can't wait for my 6/2 surgery date. BRING. IT. ON.

***Update*** had surgery at 8:45 am yesterday. It was supposed to be 7:15 but I got bumped. They provided me with something for the anxiety. I came to in the recovery room but in a lot of shoulder and chest pain from the gas. I was given pain meds and passed out. I awoke in my room and experienced a lot of gas pain and severe nausea. I'm not going to lie, the aftermath was very uncomfortable and I was constantly asking for pain and nausea meds. By night fall I was feeling MUCH better and was able to walk. I had interrupted sleep last night but that's to be expected when you have nurses coming in all night. Today, I feel great! I do have some soreness in my abdomen but it feels like I did too many crunches. The nausea non existent and I've been cleared to go home. For those of you about to go in, yes it will suck at first and then it gets better quick. Just rest, walk when your ready, don't be afraid to ask for meds, and moisten your mouth frequently for dry mouth. Good luck to you all!!

Today I weighed myself and for the first time since surgery, my breath was taken away from what I saw on that scale. Less than 2 months ago (March 3rd) I weighed 270 pounds. Today, I weighed 220 pounds. Im almost to the weight that I weighed the day I married my husband. That's 50 pounds gone forever! I am so grateful for this journey no matter what I had to go through! I don't do pics...but here is my before and after face shots.
