    protein shake suggestions?

I was using GNC total lean but now it makes me gag. Have switched to unjury. Much better.
  2. So I was just reading the pamphlet my NUT gave me about the stage 4 diet, or real food, that I will move to next week (yay!) and I am shocked by some of the things it says I still can't have! Is this true? Does anyone eat these things without issue because some of these are my favorites! Coconut Membranes of oranges Stringy Pasta like spaghetti Skins of fruits and vegetables like apples, pears, and potatoes Stringy vegetables like celery, asparagus, and spinach Untoasted bread (not real worried about this)

    Cigna questions-frantic

You will get approved. I have Cigna too and the same thing happened to me. They needed more documentation of my doctor visits. I was approved within 4 days of resubmitting. You will probably hear back by Monday. Kudos to you for sticking it out. The insurance is the hardest part some times.
  4. Nothing but bliss! I have been really lucky so far, I havent had any food issues. No dumping either.

    I'm obsessed with wls

LOL - I wouldn't call you "obsessed!" I would call you smart. You are about to have major surgery. You SHOULD be researching it and learning as much as possible about what is going to be happening to your body. I did the same thing when I finally got my surgery date. And that's why this forum is here - it's a safe place to discuss everything and anything. It's important to be well informed about the surgery, the pre-op and post-op periods so that you can make the most of the new you!

    Straws

I have been using straws occasionally without issue. I think the docs are worried you could take in too much liquid at once but it just takes a little practice. I'm only at 3 weeks postop and all is well.
  7. I use Nioxin because I already lose a ton of hair in the shower. This is a preventative measure for me. I have noticed that my hair is coming out less and the system actually makes my hair feel really full. I love it.

    Cost Curious - Plastics

I just received a general quote from Dr Peter Fisher in San Antonio. He has been recommended by many people on this site and I would love to get my plastics done by him, but I am not sure I will be able to afford it. Now, I am literally only 3 weeks post-op from gastric bypass, but I am planning ahead because I know I will need plastics when all my weight is gone. So, the rough estimate that I got from Dr Fisher was as follows: To be done in 2 surgeries, at least 3-6 months apart, not including airfare or hotel for 10 days each time: Lower Body Lift & Arm Lift: $17,500 Thigh Lift & Breast Lift: $14,450 and an additional $3000 if I need augmentation. So, basically, I need to win the lottery.
  9. There is a similar post about this I saw earlier in the day where someone posted an article about WHY you are stalled or slowed at 3 weeks. Essentially it is your body's way of preventing starvation. Once it levels itself and your brain realizes that this is not an emergency situation but the new normal, you will start losing again. It can take 1-4 weeks from what everyone has said. This happens to almost everyone! It's NOT just you! I am in the middle of it as week, 3 weeks post op tomorrow. Just keep doing what you are doing. There is no way to trick your body out of this, it is in your chemistry.
  10. Living it now! I lost 21 lbs my first 2 weeks and this week have maybe lost 1 lb total. Still heading in the right direction though and I know it will pass.

    Recovery time

I also work in an office. I took 2 weeks off and am working 2 weeks from home right now. I was still pretty uncomfortable by the beginning of week 2 and I'm glad I took it off completely. I also still get very tired in the afternoons so I'm glad I working from home now. But, if I had to go back after a week, I could have.

    Loose skin

I just had my WLS 3 weeks ago so I am at the beginning of the journey, but I am already planning ahead for plastics. I spoke to a plastic surgeon to get the initial information and he said the biggest misconception people have is that their skin will return to normal if they work out. Like @@Bufflehead said, you can't tone skin. Now, if you are still young enough and your skin has some elasticity, you may have less loose skin than others, but if you are like me, 41 and already saggy even with my fat, there's no hope. I'm saving my pennies for the inevitable nips and tucks.
  13. This is one only the ladies will appreciate - today I had to use the tightest closure for my bra. Very exciting! Moving down in the world!
  14. I did clears in the hospital but was discharged on the full liquid diet for 10 days then moved to smushie foods. Honestly, i had smushies before 10 days and I was fine. And now I am having some more normal foods like chili and hamburger meat. I had bypass by the way. I think it's a matter of what you can handle. And if you don't feel comfortable with it then stay with the liquids or smushies. They can't force you to eat something you don't want to. But all doctors do things differently.

    Jealous and Frustrated :(

I was a year and a half until I had my surgery after I started my program because I could not lose the weight required by the program (not my insurance). Finally the nutritionist waived the requirement for me because she could see I was trying my best. I'm now 3 weeks post op. The wait was terrible, but you will get through it.

Stall out on weight week 3-4

I am in week 3 right now and my weight loss has slowed to a full stop. Only 2 days so far at the same weight. I knew about the 3 week stall from being on this site but it still stinks. I feel like I can't get in all my protein and water. I am constantly eating or drinking it seems like yet I am still only at about 300 calories a day and 30 oz of water. I can't do more or it becomes uncomfortable. I guess I will just wait it out with everyone else.
  17. I'm 2 weeks post op and 28 lbs down from my HW and I am delighted! I still feel like this was the best decision I have ever made for myself. However, I am having a little buyer's remorse maybe. For some reason it is just dawning on me (although I have known this for a year) that I will never be able to have ice cream or chocolate or cake on my birthday (or any one else's) ever again. Suddenly the finality of it is hitting me and I feel like I will be missing out on things. But then I tell myself that is ridiculous, because those are some of the things that got me to almost 300 lbs to begin with and by losing the weight I will actually be able to enjoy WAY more things in life than cake and it will be well worth it. Logically, I am on board with this whole process, but emotionally, I guess I am still mourning food a bit. I thought I was prepared for this but I guess I need some more work in this department. On the positive - I am signing up to do the yearly 5k my company sponsors every year with another colleague of mine. I have never done one before (we will be walking, not running) but I am excited to try.
  18. I love Spotify. They have thousands pre-made mixes for everything! You can download the app for free on your phone and your off! No downloading of mixing required. I usually listen to an 80s workout mix while I'm walking. It helps me keep the pace up. And you can skip what you don't like.
  19. Well it has been 1 week since my surgery and I have lost 16 lbs! I am over the moon! I know that rate won't keep up so I am relishing the moment. I have had terrible abdominal pain for the last week. It began to subside yesterday which is great, but now I am really tired. I can barely keep my eyes open right now. And I have experienced my first bout of head hunger. I have not been hungry at all since my surgery. And I haven't had any cravings until today. Now I really want Peanut Butter and chocolate but not a Reeses, just mountains of peanut butter and chocolate. Lol. I know this is completely in my head and I am trying to get it out by having a chocolate Protein shake so we will see if that helps.

    So tired!

I feel the same. I am 10 days postop and tired constantly. I also can't sleep at night so i try to take naps during the day which I think makes the situation worse. I am trying to get in more protein and water but it's tough this early on. Have my 10 day appointments with my NUT and surgical nurse today so I will see if they have any other suggestions. I go back to work on Monday so I hope I can figure this out.

    Biotin

10,000 mg is the maximum daily dose of biotin. I worry about hair loss too. My hair is already thin and I dred losing more.
  24. I am just on the other side of that, 9 days postop. The 14 day preop diet was the hardest diet i have ever done, and like all of us, I've done them all! I just kept telling myself that it would make my surgery safer and help me to adjust afterward. Both are true. Also, my nutritionist told me she would rather have me eat more of what was on my diet than flip out and go off the rails with cake or something. Check with your NUT to see if that is allowed, but it did really help me to be able to grab more yogurt or applesauce or protein shake if I needed to. Also...drink your water! It really does help fill you up. You can do this!
  25. I suffer from terrible migraines. I usually get several per week and only about half the time do medications relieve them. I have just gotten used to the pain. I had splitting migraines in the hospital (surgery was 6/1/15) that the narcotics didn't even cure. I came home on 6/3/15 with a migraine, took a maxalt, and it went anyway. And I have not had a migraine since! WHAT?! This is so weird. I am knocking on wood. And all of the things that should trigger a migraine, not eating enough, sugar and caffeine withdrawal, etc are happening so I am flummoxed as to what my mystery relief is. Has anyone else experienced resolution of migraines after WLS? If so, is it permanent? Temporary? Would love some insight please.
