  1. Hello everyone! My name is Joye. I'm 23 and I have a son. I'm hoping to get gastric sleeve surgery. Tomorrow is the weight loss seminar that I have to attend in order to make an appointment with the doctor and I am so anxious/nervous/excited lol. I'm just ready to get the ball rolling. I look forward to documenting my journey here and meeting other people who've gone through this!

Welcome joyce... I just started last month...

  2. Hi all, I had my pulmonary drs visit yesterday....need a note from him to clear me for surgery. Well he was hesitant saying I don't need weight loss surgery!

Why can't i do it the old way? Eat less and exercise and before you eat you get on the scale see what you weigh, then you won't eat much!

I was about ready to cry, didn't think he would clear me for wls.

Well he gave me a note, I'm stable at this time. Woo hoo! But he wants to see me again Nov 3, just before my surgery I have copd my lungs are pretty bad so here's praying they hold out for surgery!

I hate when non bariatric specialist insert their personal opinions... your pulmonary doc only need to address the issue with your lungs...unless there is a medical reason you should not have the surgery.. he should keep his personal opinion to himself..

I had the same problem with my primary docs office.

  3. you may want to search about stomach stretching. it CANT happen. its not physically possible. the elastic part of the stomach is removed during surgery. being able to eat more is just the little bit of relaxing your stomach goes through in healing and accommodating your eating changes, it can never stretch back to normal. its a physical impossibility. Rather than focus on how much your eating look at WHAt your eating. and when. how much do you work out. if you want to do a reset go back and do a liquid only diet for 3 days and start over. You can do this. if you are always hungry, you may need to talk to someone because that sure sounds like head hunger. and this whole program without solving why you ate the way you did, is not a good thing.

Funny ... I just asked this, question at the seminar and doc said it can stretch...hmmmm.

  4. Thank you everyone!!!! The sleeve is a covered surgery!!! I'm thrilled. My only hang up now is I don't have any doctor documents stating I had failed weight loss in the past???? I mean I went to my doctors for follow ups and Med refills and referral requests but never to have continued weigh ins for weight loss. I did weight watchers one year on my own and went from a size 18 to a size 4 all on my own but wasn't paying for weightwatchers. I had the points booklet from someone and used that. Looks like I may be in a pickle

The doc office will do it for you...

  5. Thanks all. I called the insurance and asked about an appeal, and the guy looked back at the notes form when I called them in September and said that the notes say that I was informed of the 10k max. Now if I was, I certainly don't recall it. Maybe it didn't register in my old brain. I don't know.

I called the doctor's office billing person, and they said that they were not aware of the 10k max from my insurance. How is that possible??

I also asked if I could just ask Humana to revoke the claims and do self pay, since that would be cheaper at this point. She said no, that it would be insurance fraud since I already had the procedure. @@number1rudegal and @@losergrl75 do you know if this is true?

Don't take their word, for it... he cannot prove you were told...did you sign something? Have them prove you were told... if they cant....seek an appeal.

  6. I thought I was done with having periods but much to my dismay and chagrin I got mine this week. Mind you my period had all but stopped in mid 2014 but had 1 period in March 2015 so I thought that was it. Anyone else experience this post op? I got laid off in October (hope to be working again this month) but since my surgery on 11/19 everyone tells me how much younger I look. Even my hair has started to get fuller and my coloring has improved. Maybe the surgery was a mini fountain of your or just not having the day to day pressure of work has helped. However, until I hit Powerball this week I have to go back to work or I'll end up living under I- 95 in a box. LOL

Oh Goodness! I hope that is,not a side effect. If so I will rethink this sleeve! lol!
