    Coworker outed me

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I am not ashamed of it but it's still so new that it's still a lot even for me to grasp. The coworker who knew had to know because of our job. To be honest, she could technically be fired (& actually it's against the law) because we work in healthcare where I had my surgery (thus why she knew) so it's a HIPAA violation. I knew people would find out eventually but I feel it should be my place to tell. I think though the part that got me was how she answered it as "she had surgery" inferring the "easy way" - which we all know it is far from. I will say though, I did use it as a teaching moment for the gal who got told. She is also overweight so had lots of questions. I already talked with the 'teller' and asked she zip it.... but she is now mad at me for "being a baby". Ugh. I give up... Thanks though to all who felt my pain!

    Anyone From Utah?

Hi all! Thanks for the concern @@tacha22001! It means a lot. I didn't end up going to the ER over the weekend (very much against my husbands begging), but I did go back into the office yesterday - Monday and saw Madison again. She took the gauze packing out of the other incision she made to release some of the infection and then pulled more stuff out of the main incision. All my other incisions have healed perfectly and only half of the big incision got infected... it's a mystery to everyone why. I've still got about a golf ball size mass in my stomach which we are fighting with major antibiotics. I also did an IV antibiotic yesterday to kick it up a bit. The original antibiotic she gave me last week made me puke everytime I took it... which could account for the little bit of weight loss I had sadly. I'm still kind of bummed about surgery but I think it's pretty normal just for where I am and what I've been through lately. I'm finally past the stall - but just very slowly losing ounces now instead of the pounds I was so happy to see in the first couple weeks. @keddykat75- Wahoo for only 6 days! That means your on your preop diet! Day 2 or 3 is the worst but after that you get use to it. Good luck! @@tacha22001- I hope you are doing much better than me. How's your loss going? Have you had a meeting with the NUT yet? I'm anxious to meet with her because I still feel so lost of what exactly I'm doing.

She's not jealous... she's a teeny gal that "just goes off sugar to loose weight". I said something to her and she got mad at ME?! I'm so upset.

It hasn't been. I was in horrible pain on Friday and Madison told me to go to the ER. I, of course, didn't go. I don't feel like this is an emergency and working for a hospital system people using the ER for non emergent things really bugs that crap out of me. I'll call them Monday morning and probably go into the office since the incision she made to release the infection is packed with gauze (why?!) and is very tender and still hard. I'm still stalled...and getting very angry about it. Haven't lost more than a couple ounces in weeks. I'm at the point of wondering why I had this surgery now.
  5. I'm in week 5 too and have been in a stall for 3 weeks. I'm beside myself about it. I'm wondering why I did this to myself for a measly 28lbs. I get my Protein and keep my carbs and fats below what my NUT has said. I was just released for low exercise at 4wks but then got an infection that put me back to week 1 movement restrictions. That accounts for this week but not the previous 2 weeks - 1 of which I was camping and pretty much only on liquids and sweating and moving a ton in 100 degree weather.

I too am off a 3 meds since my surgery - pre-diabetic pill, BP and cholesterol! I love it! I've lost a total of 31lbs since starting my 2wk preop diet (so in 6wks). I was doing really well until 2 days ago. Then noticed two of my incisions were hard, hot and painful. Emailed Madison (Cottam's PA) and she had me come in yesterday. They ended up cutting me open again and taking a whole lot of granulomas out and draining some infection. She said its very strange considering I was 4wks out from surgery. I now have my entire stomach bandaged and today I'm in so much pain - I'd say equal to the day of surgery pain! Back on my pain meds and lifting/movement restrictions of the first week. So sad. Oh well... at least I can eat better. The scale is still on a very slow progression downwards but I'm glad the stall is over...even if it's only ounces instead of pounds like it was.

    The dreaded stall....

My stall started in my 2nd week and I'm now about to start week 4. My scale hasn't moved an ounce in 14days! It's killing me!
  8. a week into the dreaded week 3 stall... I'm so over this!

      jas84047

@lealor If you are around the boards a while you'll notice a theme with about the 3rd week... the stall. Basically your body catching on to what you've been doing and giving you a heart attack. Supposedly it only lasts a couple weeks or so... I'm still waiting. :/

  9. I have what I can only describe as painful bruised like pain on my arms, butt, and legs. There's no actually bruises but just setting my arm down or laying in bed hurts. I don't get it? I have no incision pain but my skin hurts all over? It seems to be getting worse the farther out I get. Help?

Pain all over 2 weeks post-op

I feel much better now. My doc said it was due to fat and/or muscle dying that use to protect you from certain movement.

Pain all over 2 weeks post-op

No, I haven't called my doc. I'm out of town for a few days. I will when I get back in a couple days.

    Anyone From Utah?

I had a pretty good recovery as well. Just tired and when I do too much around the house I get sore. But otherwise pretty good. I totally get what you mean by them acting like it's just a normal day to them. I too am concerned about my calorie intake (<400cal/day) and feel so stranded in my eating. I just scour the book they gave us on the thumb-drive at the preop class for what I can/should be eating but I still feel completely lost. The dietitian isn't there on days I can go in so my next appt at 1month I won't even get to meet with her. I have practically nothing to eat and feel like my loss so far has been horrible. (23lbs since the beginning of preop diet - so a total of almost 4 weeks) I have even done so much research on this and still feel completely clueless. I'm in MIdvale.

Yay! Welcome @tacha22001! How was your experience with their office? I'm just 5 days after you. Had my sleeve 7/1. How are you feeling?
  14. 6 days post-op: Finally back down to my surgery date weight. Gotta love the post-op swelling!

  15. I'm just about 3 days post-op and home for the first night from the hospital. I'm on full liquids and was doing ok with warm liquids in the hospital and room temp now. I was given cream of wheat in hospital and after a couple bites stopped eating it because it wasn't appealing to me. Now that I'm home I don't understand what these pains in my stomach are. I had a protein shake over the course of about 6 hours (slept 3 of it) which was a total of 11oz. Other than that I've only had sips of water (about 6oz total) and a cup of broth. I have what feels sort of like heartburn or hunger or a pit in my stomach right in the top center. Am I full? Is this heartburn? Is this pain? I've had a Nissen about 10 years ago and the doc left it in place during my surgery so nothing really comes up but I vaguely remember this feeling as heartburn? Or is this the new feeling of fullness? It's uncomfortable and I don't how what to do. I feel so unprepared even though I've been reading and taking classes for this new journey for over a year!
  16. Thanks everyone. I am not in pain near my incisions at all. I honestly forget they are even there. It's all internal. I really think it's got to be the full feeling but until I talk to my NUT on Wednesday I won't know for sure. I really think the full feeling and hungry feeling feel the same right now. My doc cleared me for full liquids so that's why I'm no longer on clear only. Clear wasn't giving me enough energy anyway so I'm ok with the protein shakes and cream of wheat. I think I just need to stick to tiny amounts until I understand what's going on. I'm just a ball of emotions right now, lol.

I am feeling much better. As for the gum vs mints... they said no to mints because that is actually swallowed. The gum isn't and the main idea was just to wet my mouth since the ice chips were making me vomit. I too was the first surgery at 730am and I wasn't able to drink actual water until today. Yesterday was just ice chips until I tolerated them long enough. I'm sure had I tolerated those though they would've let me drink a little water. Believe me though, I have no desire whatsoever for fluids other than to wet my mouth. The IV has me completely covered on that front. Try not to worry! It really is not bad at all! And yes @@bnm4, it's funny how farting makes us happy now when they get bigger! LMAO!! I am counting everyone since its something funny to me that makes me feel better.

@@haleylhs I'm only just shy of a day out from surgery and still in the hospital so I'm not sure I can comfort you much. I actually feel pretty good. I haven't had to push my Diluadid button much. The most pain I've had is from the gas but this morning (it's 4am) my stomach is much less distended and even though I haven't had a BM yet I am feeling much better. (Exciting TMI moment for me: I just barely farted for the first time and it was A-mazing! LOL) I also have a really bad migraine but I get those normally anyway and we're working on fixing it. I have just barely started keeping ice chips down. Yesterday I threw even a couple pieces of ice up everytime. My mouth is very dry and it's annoying but I keep at it. My nurse said I could chew on gum but upon looking in my purse I realized I had none. So, husband will be bringing some when he gets here after dropping the kids off at daycare. I think that'll help a lot. So, you're right you won't be drinking for a bit, but really in the whole scheme of things it was very minor and plus yes you are hooked up to the IV. As for the drain coming out of you - that is Dr specific I've noticed. My doc said only his RNY and DS patients had drains. I don't have one but to tell you the truth it probably would've been better than just dripping from the big hole where they removed my stomach. I had quite a lot of Fluid come out yesterday and got me wet enough to change my gown and bedding. They put a gauze pad over it and it's been ok now though. A drain isn't too bad though - I've had them with previous surgeries - and its no big deal, in my opinion. Lastly, I don't feel like I just got hit by a bus. I feel like I just had another c/section or my hysterectomy. The pain from the gas yesterday was annoying but the pain meds helped knock me out so I didn't care. I got all 4 of my walks in and that really did help. So far I am not having second thoughts. I can tell you I did start freaking out the day before surgery but this isn't so bad... yet. LOL Hang in there! You can do this!

    I cheated....I'm ashamed

I totally understand... I'm on day 4 of my 2wk liquid preop diet and cheated tonight. I had to bring chips/dip to a girls night dinner. I did great and didn't eat a thing when everyone was having all this glorious food and drinks. I sat there and mingled and drank my crystal light. However, on the way home I caved. I pulled over into a parking lot and ate about 10 Fritos with dip. It was heaven...I feel horrible. I've done so well and now I ruined it. I still have 10 days of this and I hope I can fix this. Uhg.
