  1. I would recommend the gastric bypass for you. I say this because of my eyewitness accounts of siblings who have gotten WLS in their 60's and the gastric bypass has worked very good for them. Hair loss is something that can be handled with proper nutrition, supplement intake. Look at taking some biotin for the hair. It makes the hair stronger and less prone to fall off..

    BMI 31-32

Had sleeve done on 5/19/15 and my bmi at the time of the surgery was 29.8. Insurance gave no issues or problems for approval. I have dropped 16 pounds as of today but i know is gonna be a long slow process. Already feel a sense of " plateau" but i will keep on. goodluck with your journey and always ask questions because it is soo helpful to get answers even to the smallest of questions..

    Protein

I recommend Premier protein for you. Each 11oz container has 30g of protein and very low in carbs and about 3g of fat only. I take 2 daily to meet my requirements. All flavors are really good and do not taste chalky at all..
  4. I'm a 34yr male. 6'1 and currently weighing 225 pounds. I had succesful lap band surgery in march 2007 and lost 80 pounds. From 265 went down to 185. I had maintained overall weight loss success until sometime last year in january 2014 when i started to notice the GERD getting worse and also some weight gain. For the first time in 5 years when i hit the scale i saw numbers over the 200 range. I started to worry because i knew something was not right. Got an upper GI series done and all it showed was mild pouch dilation. Doctor left band as is and never suggested any course of treatment for the dilation and for the GERD. Fast forward now to 2015 and I seeked a second opinion from another surgeon. Surgeon performed an EGD and it shows that there is band slippage, gastritis and presence of GERD. Surgeon suggested a revision for the lap band and to convert it to either a gastric sleeve or gastric bypass. Insurance has approved the revision but need guidance or help in deciding which one is better for me. I see soo many mix responses from people suggesting or prefering one over the other. I will say that yes the band did work for me and do its job. It improved my health alot but now is the GERD that is just kicking me in the rear end very bad. Like stated before I weight 225 now and for the long term success and achivement I'm undecided as to what procedure is more suited for me at this point of my life. I do need the surgery to aliviate the discomfort plus without any bariatric procedure on me I would go back to how i was prior to the lapband. I tried it all before deciding doing bariatric surgery in 2007. Thank you.

    1-2 ounces

Im confused in a way. Doctor's orders were to consume 2 oz of clear liquid every 15 mins. But on the paperwork he gave me prior to surgery it says 1 oz every 15 mins. Currently i am on the full liquid diet phase 2. Taking protein shakes and clear liquids for hydration. Any help would be welcomed. Just wanna know if im doing on by consuming 2 oz or am i overdoing it. I don't have any pain or discomfort when i do the 2 oz.
  6. I'm 2 days away from a full week since post-op. Got revision from band to VSG on 5/19/15. Wanted to inquire about caffeine and mainly drinking coffee.. How much time is necessary to maybe introduce coffee again or will coffee be a forbidden thing forever now that VSG is in place. Surgeon gave me the green light to drink decaf coffee but let's be real it is not the same as regular coffee. I just tried to take a few sips of the half-caff kcups and felt some discomfort as i was swallowing the sips of the coffee.

    Drinking coffee

I am not trying to disobey the orders or instructions from the surgeon. This forum is to ask questions about each person's individual experiences. We all at some point may do things that are not in line with the instructions given by our surgeons. I appreciate the feedback from everyone. I am trying to ask questions and concerns to those who are soo far ahead in their VSG journey. My surgeon did give the green light for 6 oz of decaf coffee with non dairy creamer.
  8. I would recommend to you the UT MIST group. Dr. Erik Wilson is a pioneer in revisions and overall bariatric surgeon. He is the top go to guy for bariatric at memorial hermann in the medical center.
  9. Currently have lapband placed since 3/07. Band has worked and done it's job but now it has started to slip and i have gained 35 pounds. Getting revision done this coming tuesday and feeling nervous after i met with the surgeon yesterday for the pre-op consultation. He says it will take about 2 hrs to do revision. That is more time consuming the removal of the band and all the scar tissue that needs to be removed. I am concerned about the scar tissue. Have had the band inside for 8 yrs and i know scar tissue has built up but im concerned about how much tissue there really is inside. Also wanted to ask if it is appropriate and safe to do removal of band and perform sleeve at the same time? Just feel like this is alot of stress for the body all at once. I know that many patients have gotten this done without problems but just want to get opinions from all of you if possible. Also i got EGD done and surgeon just mentioned band slippage, mild gastritis and GERD. No mention of hiatal hernia or scar tissue.. Would welcome all suggestions.. Thank you
  10. Thanks for the information. You are absolutely right about getting many different opinions on this forum. I will seek the surgeon's advise and we will go over the data and discuss what is the best route possible for me.
  11. I went to a surgeon this past february 2015 for a second opinion. After getting EGD done it was discovered that my band had started to mildly slip down. Surgeon suggested a revision to sleeve or RNY. Insurance approved revision even though my BMI is at 28.4. Insurance stated that since band started to slip plus GERD is present they deemed it as medically necessary regardless of my BMI. I suggest to ask surgeon because I did come across one surgeon who would not do a revision because BMI is under 30..
