    Trouble getting liquids down!

IDK how far post-op you are but in the beginning you have to take small sips. As time goes on and you heal you will be able to swallow more normally. I was very frustrated in the beginning with drinking but I promise it gets better!

Fish (salmon) chicken Greek yogurt cheese eggs Turkey Beans You can get there...remember eat Protein first so you get to that goal!
  6. My bat wings are seriously taking over...they make it difficult to shave and they make such an attractive flapping sound when undressed. UGH! Now other areas are much easier to shave if you know what I mean! lol

    My Boss / Co Workers

I am very fortunate that all my co-workers and my boss are very supportive. That being said, people in life have no filters an seem to not have any problem judging others to their face. I agree, I would ask them what do they know about bariatric surgery that makes them think it is easy. They definitely don't know anything if they think it is easy. You can always shut them down by ignoring them if you choose or you can try to use it as an opportunity to educate them on the fact that the surgery is only one tool. They may listen but don't get your hopes up. Good luck!

    Was I just misinformed?

Agreed with @kranky813. I do not have any food restrictions and was told at 5 weeks to slowly introduce solid foods back into my diet. The caveat is that there are foods I should not ever eat. I must always eat Protein first and must only consume 3/4 to one cup of food. Smart, healthy choices must be made or I will not lose. If in question do your research on published diets for WLS patients or see a nutritionist yourself. We only get a small opportunity to make the best of the surgery then it is up to us to maintain it. We can only do that with a proper eating plan. Good luck!!

Excellent and thoughtful "rant". In life, as we go we learn many things about ourselves. I have always felt we teach people how to treat us and you are on the money that if you don't have self-confidence you will accept just about any treatment. That goes for all relationships, not just romantic ones. What about the friend who gives you the backhanded compliment? The boss who gives you veiled insults? We passively accept those and walk away with our head down or we truly walk away and leave them behind with our head high! For a lot of people the weight is a manifestation of our feelings and for a lot it is a place to hide. For some it is a safe insulated world where we self-fulfill our feelings of unworthiness. I have been overweight my whole life and I am noticing that as I lose the weight (I still have a long way to go) my confidence is gaining. I don't feel like the fattest person in the room. I smile more. I feel better. I have a wonderful husband and he is very supportive of this journey because he says he wants to grow old with me, be able to do more things, etc. It is the "friends" who I am noticing the changes in. Maybe I was the fat friend that they felt comfortable with. Whatever the reason I am letting them go one by one as they fall out of touch the smaller I get. Just my own observation and in no way meant to tell anyone else what to do either, just sharing my experiences.

    Multivitamin

I take a multi-Vitamin per day, 2 calcium pills (am and pm) and sublingual B-12 twice a week. Everyone is different based on bloodwork done so it really is up to your own team.

    Stretching the sleeve

Every nutritionist is different of course but mine says I should be eating about 6 ounces or 3/4 cup at 5 weeks and forward. Do you have any guidelines from your surgeon's team? I would refer to those if you do. If not a simple phone call to their office should clear things up. Don't wait til you have an appointment.

    Stretching the sleeve

Stretching of your sleeve will not come from quantity of calories but from volume of food. How many ounces of food are you consuming at a meal? Is it dense Protein or liquid?

    I think I'm abnormal

A side note...sometimes I am really not hungry, just thirsty. Also it depends on the Protein I am eating, dense protein fills me up and sticks with me longer. Some days I feel like I want to eat more and some not at all. I would imagine this will be a fluctuation that will happen always going forward. Still learning every day!

    Emotional Eating...

I haven't done therapy but did journal pre- and post-op. I identified my triggers for eating and put plans in place to stop them. For me, I am a stress eater and a bored eater. I have learned to identify my triggers and find other things to do or drink Water. Lots of folks have posted their eating problems are much deeper. For those, therapy is in order. Therapy would also be in order if you cannot control your eating on your own. It takes work not just identifying the problems but putting solutions in place and sticking to them. Good luck!

Yes, I am right there with you! The last 8 weeks I have struggled pretty badly. If I am lucky I lost 5lbs this last month. The bright side, I lose 5 lbs!

    Does it ever get better?

It definitely gets better. This is not what it is like, this is because you just had surgery. Hang in there! Focus on hydration then Protein. It got better every day as I healed but I probably felt pretty good and able to get fluids in pretty well at one week. Get rest and recuperate. They are not kidding when they say sip, sip, sip!
