    Waiting...

As long as everything that your insurance company needs is submitted the approval doesn't take long at all. You can call your doctors office and ask for the pre-cert number and call your insurance if you want to see "if they need any additional information". Sqeaky wheel gets the oil as they say. Good luck and let us know when you get your date!!

    Can't or Won't

@@Inner Surfer Girl and @@Babbs, I knew you would both get it. For the rest your comments have definite merit. Yes, if you dislike the shakes you have tried and want feedback on new ones to sample, ask away. The people I am referring to are the ones who say, I just can't drink another shake. That to me sounds like won't or don't want to. Anyone who has a physical or medical reason that they cannot do something is a whole different situation, but those people are not whining they are just sharing. We all know the ones I am talking about and yeah maybe my post was a bit harsh but I am not one to sugarcoat things. I want to be nice but lets get real here. Some of the posts here are insane with what they say. Just today I responded to a post where someone complained that if they share they cheated they get yelled at here. Well do you want a support group that "supports" you into repeating your bad habits??? Really? I for one am looking for the advice of the long termers and I read their posts religiously and I don't want sugar coating myself. I want real talk about how to succeed here not placating so my feelings don't get hurt. Thank you to Babbs, Miss Mac, InnerSurfergirl and others who keep it real.

    Fed up

I totally get what you are saying and I have seen less than nice ways of saying maybe you shouldn't do something. That being said, we all have a plan given to us by our surgeons or nutritionists, they have those plans for a reason as they have been proven for them to create success. Your surgeon does want you to succeed. Of course we are all human and we will have cravings and those can drive you insane sometimes or they are more difficult for some to resist. If you are not jumping off the wagon with both feet, have a bite or two or three, then get back to business. Know your limits, if a bite will lead to 20 for you then you know what to do. If you can have a bit then walk away go for it. Maybe these people mean well but for them they don't have the kind of will power to do that, after all we are all here cos we are overweight. It truly is your journey and it is what you make of it. I think some of us also get frustrated because some posts are from those just blatantly ignoring their plans or posting basically asking permission to eat whatever they want. I would hope the comments are not intended to be mean on purpose. Good luck to you all and that is just my 2 cents. Go forth and be human! lol

Regular food at 5 weeks here, followed the plan of my nutritionist.

Snacks or no snacks, I'm confused

I am 8 weeks out and have 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day per my nutritionist. When I am able after eating I am drinking to get all my fluids in for the day. You really do get a rhythm going.

    Worst Restaurant Food You Ordered?

Thankfully help in knowing those calorie counts is coming! Yay! Overview of FDA Labeling Requirements for Restaurants, Similar Retail food Establishments and Vending Machines Menu Labeling Requirements At-A-Glance Vending Machines Labeling Requirements At-A-Glance Menu Labeling Requirements At-A-Glance In a nutshell Americans eat and drink about one-third of their calories away from home. Making calorie information available on chain restaurant menus will help consumers make informed choices for themselves and their families. As required by statute, FDA’s final rule for nutrition labeling in chain restaurants and similar retail food establishments will provide consumers with clear and consistent nutrition information in a direct and accessible manner for the foods they eat and buy for their families. Posting calories on menus and menu boards and providing other nutrient information in writing in chain restaurants and similar retail food establishments will fill a critical information gap and help consumers make informed and healthful dietary choices. Covered establishments will list calorie information for standard menu items on menus and menu boards and a succinct statement about suggested daily caloric intake. Other nutrient information—total calories, calories from fat, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrates, Fiber, sugars, and protein—will have to be made available in writing on request. In addition, covered establishments will also be required to post a statement on menus and menu boards about the availability of such additional written nutrition information. To be covered, an establishment must be a restaurant or similar retail food establishment, as defined in the final rule. In addition, such establishment must: (1) be part of a chain of 20 or more locations, (2) doing business under the same name, (3) offering for sale substantially the same menu items. Examples of restaurant-type foods that are covered when sold by a facility that is part of a chain with 20 or more locations include: Meals from sit-down restaurants Foods purchased at drive-through windows Take-out food, such as pizza Foods, such as made-to-order sandwiches, ordered from a menu or menu board at a grocery store or delicatessen Foods you serve yourself from a salad or hot food bar Muffins at a bakery or coffee shop Popcorn purchased at a movie theater or amusement park A scoop of ice cream, milk shake or sundae from an ice cream store Hot dogs or frozen drinks prepared on site in a convenience or warehouse store Certain alcoholic beverages Foods not covered include: Certain foods purchased in grocery stores or other similar retail food establishments that are typically intended for more than one person to eat and require additional preparation before consuming, such as pounds of deli meats, cheeses, or large-size deli salads.Effective date: Based on comments, the FDA has extended the effective date from six months to one year after the date of publication of the final rule. On July 10, 2015, FDA published a final rule to extend the compliance date to December 1, 2016. View a statement on Menu Labeling Compliance. back to top Vending Machines Labeling Requirements At-A-Glance In a nutshell Americans eat and drink about one-third of their calories away from home. The FDA’s final rule for vending machine calorie labeling, coupled with the requirements for menu labeling, aim to provide consumers with clear and consistent nutrition information in a direct and accessible manner for the foods they eat and buy for their families. Even though some foods sold from vending machines already bear calorie information, this labeling is not always visible before purchase. Calorie labeling of foods sold in vending machines will help make calorie information available to consumers in a direct, accessible, and consistent manner to enable them to make informed and healthful dietary choices. The FDA is allowing two years from the date of publication of the vending machine labeling final rule for covered vending machine operators to comply with the requirements. FDA received approximately 250 comments on the vending machine labeling proposed rule issued on April 6, 2011. FDA reviewed and considered each comment carefully before issuing the final rule. What’s required? Disclosing calorie information of foods sold in vending machines operated by a person owning or operating 20 or more machines, subject to certain exceptions. Calorie information may be placed on a sign (e.g., small placard, sticker, poster) near the article of food or selection button. Electronic or digital displays may also be used. Posting of calorie information for foods sold from bulk vending machines (e.g., gumball machines, mixed nut machines). Disclosing contact information of covered operators on the machines or otherwise with the required calorie declarations to enable FDA to contact operators for enforcement purposes.

    I need help with breakfast

I do a Protein shake as I also don't wish to pre-cook or cook breakfast. I make a frappachino with one scoop vanilla protein, 8 ounces unsweetened almond milk, a squirt of folgers drops and ice. Some days I add sf torani caramel syrup, some days sf white chocolate, some days sf Belgian cookie. All total it makes a 24 ounce shake and the Protein powder I use gets me 25 g protein. It DOES NOT taste like a Protein Shake, it tastes like Starbucks! I drink it on the way to work and I then have 24 ounces Fluid in as well. Plain Protein shakes will get boring pretty fast. Play with them and flavor them to make them taste better!
  12. ShrinkingPeach

    How much protein

@@BLERDgirl is right, you cannot absorb more than 20g of Protein at a time so pace it throughout the day. I also was told 60g of protein a day. You can do more but you also need room for veggies and Fiber or you will get constipated. Good luck!

    Serious Question

8 weeks out and had my first one last week. I DID get a buzz so be careful. Definitely no carbonation and do realize those are empty calories and full of sugar. Enjoy in moderation!

Agreed Premier shakes are pretty good and no mixing as they are ready to go. Syntrax you can get at GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe. Premier is at costco, Sam's and Walmart. Which ones have you tried?

    Vsg Tomorrow July 16

I took my cell and a pillow for the ride home. I played on my cell til they took me down and didn't touch it again til I got home. I wore home what I wore in so I didn't have to deal with a bag or anything. Good luck tomorrow!
  17. Yes in many ways that is how I felt prior to surgery and I feel better every day after. I feel more in control of my life and that I make better decisions. This is carrying over into other areas besides food and exercise. Good luck!!

    Sleeve limitations

The unhealthy foods are what got us here so why would you want to eat them again. If it drives you nuts then eat your protein first, then your veggies and ONLY THEN if you have room for a bite to satisfy that craving then do it. Only do that if you are following the other steps such as fluids and exercise!

    Struggling with liquid diet

@@kashco it def makes sense. This is a drastic change to your intake. Just keep your eyes on the prize and you will make it. Add free foods if you are allowed by your NUT. Ask what you can have such as sf Jello or broth. Good luck!

It gets better I promise. You have already made a huge decision to get healthy. You can do this, the pre-op diet is no joke but after a few days you will get into the routine of it. Think about how amazing you are going to look in a year! Every month you will be smaller! You will feel and be healthier! Good luck!!!!

    Carb Confusion?!

You are most welcome...remember too that this is a marathon and not a sprint. If you have lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks you are doing great! Some weeks will be more and some will be less. As you are losing the body is constantly resetting and adjusting. Keep up the good work and you will make it! Based on your stats you want to lose 113 pounds. You have lost 20 in 6 weeks or 18% of your goal. The honeymoon period as they say is about a year. You are 11.5% into your year but down 18%, you are ahead! Enjoy!

How much do you eat at a meal?

Same here, I am 8 weeks out and at 3/4 cup but the less dense the food is the more I could eat. I measure and make sure to not overeat. I have learned to tell when I am full and try my best to stop before the next bite.

Having your levels checked for everything sounds like a god idea. Make sure you are getting enough fluids also as dehydration can deplete your energy. Hope you get an answer soon!
