    Need to vent!

So sorry to hear your Dad violated your trust. At this point hold your head high and move on. It doesn't matter in the end what others say because you are ding this for you and not them. Just focus on what is important and move forward. I agree, I would probably not share anything personal with him again as he has shown he cannot be trusted. Good luck with your surgery!

    Stairs

I live in a split-level house so I was doing stairs from the day of surgery. I was done as an outpatient and went up and down same day. Just go slow and you should be fine.

    Hi and help!

Hi and Welcome!! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! 1- Coffee- depends on the nutritionist. Mine said no pre-op and said we could add back post-op if we needed to but to please limit to minimal amounts. She wanted us off caffeine s she says it makes you hungry and also dehydrates you. She doesn't allow us to count any caffeinated beverages in our Fluid total for the day. For me not a big deal as I am not a coffee drinker and I quit caffeine years ago. 2- Pain- I had some mild pain and discomfort after surgery, moreso from the hernia repair than the sleeve surgery. I took liquid painkillers for the first 3 days and then stopped. The pain was not bad at all for me. They don't want you "exercising" right away just up and moving. The more you move about the faster you can recover. Do take some time to rest and recover! 3- Work is going to deplete your energy. You are still healing from surgery for up to 2 months. You will be fine at work after 2 weeks but will come home tired. The exercising will be in small amounts as in walking initially. 4- The hospital allows all electronics. I was sleeved as an outpatient but all hositals have wi-fi etc. You will want to be up and walking every chance you get. It helps with the discomfort from gas pains if you have that. (I didn't) 5- For suggestions, search the pre-op threads here. You will need to prepare meals for yourself preferably as you will want to control your sodium intake as well as staying high protein/low carb. 6- For reading material re you referring to places to research the surgery? If so look into these...they also have recipes, info on puree's and more: http://milestogo.squarespace.com/ https://www.bariatriceating.com/ http://www.mygastricbypassstory.com/ http://twosleevers.com/ http://www.foodcoach.me/category/recipes/ http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/browse-results.asp?category=Low+Carb http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html http://healthylowcarbliving.com/recipe/ Good luck with your surgery and keep posting!

    Work

I went back after 11 days. I have a mostly desk job so nothing to strenuous. It mostly depends on your job or the type work you do. You will be tired for a bit while recovering. Good luck!

    3 months post op help

You may be in a rut with your meal choices. Trying different spices or some new recipes. Wake up your taste buds with variety, that works for me. Good luck!

    Surgery August 21st- massive nerves!

It is okay and normal to be nervous. Take a deep breath and let it out. I was not really nervous as much as excited. I wanted to be healthier and more active. You will get there also. Good luck with your surgery and with your journey. There are WAY MORE successes here than complications. Hang in there!

4 days post just needing a lot of support.

Also wishing you luck and support. You have got this, follow your plan and reach out here to friends. You are pretty much in the clear for complications. Take it easy and allow yourself time to heal and rest. We are here for you!

Newbie - Surgery set for 16th October

Hi Jenny and welcome. I have already been sleeved but am wishing you the best! Good luck with your surgery and new life!

    Pureed diet

That question is better suited for your surgeon or nutritionist. You wouldn't want to do something to hurt your sleeve while it is still healing. Good luck!

    Nervous, nervous

Everyone's journey with this surgery is different. All you can do is choose a great surgeon, then follow the plan. For me, I went to a Center of Excellence. I had no post-op issues. No gas, minimal pain, great recovery. Good luck to you! It is okay to be nervous, I think some forget it IS major surgery and should be looked at with respect!

Like why is easy for others and so hard for me

Those darn stalls are so frustrating. Hang in there, your body is resetting. Good luck!

    Weight loss

Nothing to do but wait it out. The loss will start again, for some the stall is short and for some longer. Hang in there. Drink your Water, eat the right amount of Protein and low carb. Exercise will build muscle and make it seem you are not losing when you actually ARE losing fat. Good luck!

Personal Style -- How will I dress as a thin woman?

I am 51 and have never been the correct size. For me, I am looking at other women and taking notice of their style and what they wear. When I get to goal I want to be classic but not too dressy. I think by the time I get there I will have some idea of what I want. I am a pretty casual person and not too dressy and I wear scrubs for work. I would suggest the same, observe other women in your age group and get ideas on style from them. Look at the grocery store, the doctor's office, etc. You will see things you like and there will be your answer.
  16. I am officially not the largest person at my work..woohoo!

Do I have to eat Broth

It may take a few days for you to have a BM. Take stool softener or Miralax to help if you haven't gone in a week from surgery. you are not taking in any solid foods so don't expect to go yet. I would be careful around your incisions but I would think if you feel fine you are fine.

    Best Tasting Calcium Citrate Chewable

I also like the chewable calcium citrate from Bariatric Advantage. They come in 500mg each so I only have to do 2 a day.

When your spouse/significant other is still obese...

Maybe as he sees your success he will want that for himself. It has to be tough for you to watch him eat things you can no longer enjoy and it has to be tough for him to watch you lose weight when you know he wants to as well. Maybe he can attend a support group meeting with you to learn more or speak to others? Yes you do have to be careful in how you approach him about his weight but there is nothing wrong in stating that you want him to be with you for a very long time and if his health isn't great that isn't going to happen. Of course it is all in how it is presented. Ultimately he has to be in place where he is ready for a life change.
  20. 1100 calories would be a bit much at 3-1/2 weeks out. I am 3 months out and my nutritionist wants me at 800 per day. I would guess the biggest question would be are you losing weight? All of our journeys are s different as the nutritionist's plans out there. What information were you given with how much you should be eating also?

    Thoughts on "Goal"

I set a goal of 160 for now. I would still be overweight but having been overweight all my life I cannot remember weighing 160 and it was probably as an early teen that I might have. For me that is a lofty goal and I take it 10 pounds at a time. I have lost 80 pounds and am now focusing on 90 as my next goal. It keeps me focused and I get to have successes along the way. I already know my weight for my height should be 135, so when I get to 160 I will adjust and go for the gusto!
  22. About a week...again you just had major surgery. Focus on recovery and your plan...the loss will come.

    Is this typical?

How far post-op are you? The gain could be from swelling, adjustments to your diet etc. Could also be from adjustments to your medications.
