Let's talk about blood clots
naturegirl replied to naturegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been walking circles in my living room and wiggling my legs while siting. Just concerned that I might not be doing enough. -
My surgery was the day after hours and I'm still working through the gas. Lots of walking and hoping that'll pass soon.

Can't urinate? & so nauseous
naturegirl replied to AWD12368's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been able to urinate everyday, but the nausea hasn't really gone away. Sometimes when I feel the urge to pee I just sit there. I've noticed it comes in waives, do as long as I sip and wait it out I've been gone. Now let's hope that there are no BMs until after the pain is gone, -
Protein shakes after surgery
naturegirl replied to khaled's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on July 21 and water not protein drink has been friendly. Recently added SF kool-aid to the water with hopes that it'll go down. I spent the morning doing a drool like vommit because I didn't want to experience a full vommit. -

Help! Just had surgery...
naturegirl replied to xrayyoung22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I mentioned previously my surgery date was the 21st, now 2 days post-op. I'm at home and relaxing in the recliner. I take my meds every 4 hours and walk then, but ugh!!! Abdominal pain plus gas is pure evil. The iv drip at the hospital was misleading! -

You're not alone. Coughing and attempting to vomit are not enjoyable experiences. Gas pains still exist. I can't seem to keep Water down. Same thing with Protein drinks. I don't enjoy this pain! -
Primary dr. said what?
naturegirl replied to onmywaytoonederland's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What nerve of her saying this! Yes we know that those who don't change their habits might gain it back, but that doesn't mean every person will. -
I can't believe this

Pureed foods, really?
naturegirl replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DH has been living off of blended retried beans with Monterey Jack, purred onions, and sauce. He's also puréed chili, and made a cauliflower mash. -

I too was sleeved yesterday and remain in. The hospital now. Pain Ned's are wonderful! Gas is just annoying, and I'm sleepy. I'm dreading being disconnected from my meds as well as the 1.5 hour drive home either today or Thursday. -

Tired of my life like this
naturegirl replied to JessterNC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck on your procedure. I had my own frustrations with my case manager not returns phone calls, and a delay due to my sleep study in May. Things eventually got sorted out and the doc signed off on the procedure. My surgery was yesterday. Now to focus on the road ahead. -
8 weeks out and feel so different, down 4 sizes in jeans
naturegirl replied to EnglishDan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's great! My husband weighed 315 lbs prior to his pre-op diet. A month later and he's in the 270s. His pants are all too big and shirts are listening. It's a great feeling. Keep up the good work ???? -
I dad to complete a 2 week liquid diet of protein shakes and jello. The first few days were rough but got much easier as the days passed. The day before surgery water/jello only was by far the hardest. I'm fortunate that my husband went through the procedure last month and a friend of mine is 6 days behind me, so we kept motivating each other when things got rough.

How did you handle the first few days after surgery?
naturegirl replied to JohnT's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm still in the hospital hoping to get water to sip today. I too am concerned about greeting in my fluids, especially as little sips. Realize it takes time, as you're relearning things I already "know" how to do. -
Sleeve expectations being realistic
naturegirl replied to dcannan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aside from losing weight I hope to learn how to eat correctly. So food types/priorities, portion control, and listening to my body are goals that I have. -
I think that part of the learning curve. DH is experiencing the same thing and he'll be 4 weeks post op Thursday.he is finding that by remaking/repackaging his food into tiny storage containers is helping with portion control. But the challenge to not over eat what's in the container is still an issue.

I had surgery yesterday (Tues 7/21). It's 3:40am pst and can't sleep. Kept dozing off all day yesterday, but can't sleep now. Should Find out sometime this morning if I can go home today or if it'll be Thursday. I'm currently itching everywhere! The nurses said its a common reaction and nothing to worry about. Gas pain isn't bad at all, just annoying.

I have residual back problems due to a car accident in 2000, but slipped over winter and created new issues. What I noticed is that the weight I dropped in the weeks leading up to my pre-op diet, and during the Pre-op diet have helped the recent pain to diminish significantly. Hoping that some of the older pain will dissipate overtime as well due to the weight loss.

Consultation this Thur!
naturegirl replied to Jolene-journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask about how they handle complications that might arise dying surgery. Or what the recovery process is like. Inquire about suggestions for handling the anxiety of the surgery, or ask what FAQ other patients have had. An open dialog can be created. Plus if you have a case manager you can ask them too. -
All insurance companies are different. A friend of mine chose a different health insurance plan then me (same employee) and had go complete the 6 month supervised diet, while all I had to do was list out my dieting attempts. It comes down to talking with your insurance company early in the process to identify the steps needed. While discouraging think of it as an opportunity to start working on some of the post-op and pre-op responsibilities and life changes.

No, I delivered all 4 kids vaginally so I can't compare it to a c-section. But I take similar precautions when moving/shifting in bed like I did during/after delivery. I do have some gas. I can feel it in my chest/upper abdomen. At first I thought it was heartburn, but it wasn't. It just kind of sits there, so I've gotten up periodically to walk in the hopes that it will dissipate. I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. Everyone's liquid diets appear to be different. Mine didn't allow meals, so yogurt was not allowed. Instead it was protein drinks, jello, and broth; however I never had broth. DH did have broth when he was on his 2 week diet. If I recall my husband did have yogurt during his post-op diet.

Surgery went great. The Doctor was impressed by my liver shrinkage. It shrank so much it was floppy, lol. I thought the pain immediately after surgery was moderate. I recall asking for pain medication because it felt so bad, but once it kicked in things weren't so bad. Yes it hurts when I sit up or sit down, but it's manageable. I've slept most of the day and was pretty loopy for a few hours after the procedure. I have also gone for one walk. They had me wait about 6 hours after surgery until walking due to dizziness. The anxiety was worth it, I'm now on the losers bench ????
