  1. The first study you reference is from Feb of 2006, almost 10 years old. Its sample size is so small, 23, as to be almost meaningless. I would almost discount this one completely due to the age of the study and the limited sample size. Not saying your basic premise is wrong, but I see no smoking gun here.
  2. For my program, dairy products play an important role. My go to substitute "ice cream" is 2 carbmaster yougurts (60 cal each with 8 g Protein each) and then mix in an unjury chocolate splendor single serving (100 cal with 21 g protein) This little gem gives me 37 grams of protein for 220 calories. I really like the bananas flavor as mixed with the unjury it tastes like boston cream pie. I also enjoy milk and cheese as part of my diet.
  3. You just nailed the point of the surgery being a "tool" and not a be all and end all in itself. In the initial phase right after surgery, the goal is to lose weight, heal, learn new eating habits, learn new lifestyle habits, etc. Another phase is the maintenance phase is which the excess weight has been lost and the maintaining a healthy weight loss begins. There are folks who post on this forum that believe the surgery will fix their lives....it will not. It does not fix eating disorders, low self esteem, etc. It will not go out and exercise for you. Most of the posting you see here are folks who can not lose weight even with the sleeve. I wouldn't be too concerned on losing too much. I did ask my doctor about this as I am getting very close to my goal, and there are supplements that are very dense on calories that can arrest any sort of weight loss.

    Nauseated

You must sip water or you will end up back in the hospital with dehydration. Flavor the water with drops if necessary. 1 ounce every 15 minutes if that is all you can do. It got much easier quickly for me, but those first two days with no IV to keep myself hydrated were difficult. Walk, walk, walk....even down the driveway and back...got rid of the gas quickly for me. Good luck!

    Fast food funeral

The nice thing is post-op you can still eat the burger, just no fries, bun, or carbonated sugar Water. I used to go pickup a 12 pack of Taco's at Taco bell and eat them all! I still eat a burger now and again (no bun) plus every couple of months I go get chicken wings (naked, with sauce on the side). In general the cravings from non-nutritional food is gone.

    Questions for Alcohol Drinkers ONLY!

3 months No No No I actually had a weekend at the beach last weekend and found that I still really enjoy a cold beer. At most, I can only tolerate 2 and then have to wait a bit. If anything, the sleeve makes it impossible for me to get drunk. Over the course of 6 hours, I think I might have had 5 beers. Never felt any discomfort, just full. Makes it very difficult to get protein, etc. in, so it will remain a every couple of months type of thing.
  8. Heading to Party City to get mine right now! lol
  9. @trialatty My experience is very similar to yours. At almost 6 months post-op, I hardly think about the sleeve anymore. I get on the scale once in awhile, just to see what is happening. Sometimes it hasn't moved, other times I am down about 5-6 lbs. At this point, I don't really care as my eating is under control, and that was what was keeping me fat to begin with. I don't count calories at all. I DO follow the Protein first, veggies, carbs rule. If I really want some bread at a restaurant, I grab a piece and just pull off a corner and enjoy that one little piece and let the rest sit there. If I get in the mood to "pig" out at night, I usually mix a little PB2 chocolate and milk, and that consistency usually does the trick. I travel a lot for work, and get a lot of "is that all you want" from the wait staff, but I just say "yes, that's it, unless you are buying me more!", gets me a chuckle and they move off. I will eat 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and sliced tomatoes as my go to travel meal. I drink a beer or 2 once in awhile if I am in a social setting. My life has just changed for the better as I am not dragging around an extra 116 lbs. My sleeve reset my body and my mind. It is the new normal.

    Embrace the stall?

    Lmao. #stalllivesmatter
  11. At 6 days, you are doing much better than I was! Very typical recovery....if you are still having same issues at 6 weeks, maybe time for concern. Hang in there, it gets better very soon
  12. Happiness is being able to apply sunscreen on your own back with no help!

    Weight loss?

Definitely not my experience. Is there a reason for the question?

    Struggling

The last 3 days of the liquid diet, all clear fluids for me, and the first week post-op were pretty darn rough. After that things got back to normal relatively quickly and progressed just like my doctor told me it would. Just hang in there and know we all had to go through the same uncomfortable process in order to achieve the results!

Post again at day 10 and tell us all how much better you feel!
  16. That is frustrating! Your body might be just fighting the process. Protein, water, exercise. It WILL happen!

    Post-op worries

@@dre1375 Yeah, you are probably putting too much effort into the thought process...lol. Not that you are alone among us! I was at 3 months and had quit watching the scale as I only lost 2 lbs the entire month of June, when all of the sudden I put a belt on and realized there were not enough notches on it. I went from a 48 inch waist to my current 38 inch waist in about 5 months. Even if the scale isn't moving, your body maybe redistributing things! Best of luck to you
