  1. I went to mexico alone. I was sleeved on May 1st. I flew there alone and back home alone. I drove myself from the airport home. The day of my surgery was rough and my back hurt so bad but after that first day it was so much better. You just gotta take it slow and remember to walk alot and sip Water as much as possible. The recovery is not as bad as you are probably thinking. I am 9 weeks post op now and yes sometimes I still miss food but it is so worth it to have lost 41 pounds so far. I feel 100 times better about myself now and I am still going! I wish you the best of luck with your journey

  2. Just out of curiosity do any of you feel like some days your restriction is more than other days? It seems like some days I can eat way more. For example: today I may be able to eat an entire small bowl of oatmeal but another day only be able to eat 3 or 4 bites max. I am 7 weeks post op. I wonder why that is. I am never hungry but I eat when I know my body needs it. Usually something like oatmeal or an egg for Breakfast and a Protein Shake for lunch and a small Protein healthy dinner.

  3. I was sleeved on May 1st. I am finally eating solid food now. Surprisingly nothing has made me really sick. A couple of things have made me queasy but it usually passes in about 30 minutes time. I am eating about 4 ounces and can drink about 10 ounces of my Protein Shakes now. I sip Water all day to try to get in as much as possible. I hit a stall about 3 weeks out and didn't lose anything for about 10 days. It was very discouraging but it has finally picked back up and I've lost 4 pounds this past week! The first 2-3 weeks I was so depressed and thought I had made the biggest mistake ever but it is finally starting to get better. I do miss eating sometimes but it's not bc I'm hungry but because when I make dinner for my family it is stuff I use to eat a ton of. I have been making good choices for the most part. 5 or 6 bites in and I'm stuffed though. I finally went out to eat with my family this past weekend and ate about 2 ounces of steak and about a third of a baked potato and was so full. It amazes me to see what I can eat now verses what I used to eat a few months ago. I now feel great overall though. I lost 12 pounds on my pre-op diet and 19 pounds since my surgery. Total of 31 pounds!! It's definately not easy but I am making it. I will be 6 weeks out this Friday so I am hoping to get cleared to do more exercising than just walking. It's hard to get all my liquids and Protein in but I am doing my best. Good luck everyone!

  4. I went to mexico and had my surgery on May 1st. I just turned all of my data off and used the WiFi at the hospital. No problems. Through AT&T the regular text messages are 50 cent each. I just text when I needed to. It was no problem at all. Once back at the airport I turned my data back on and all was good. Hope this helps.

  5. @@Band07 just wanted to check with you and see how you're doing now that's it's been a couple weeks. I am 13 days post op. I'm doing so much better. The first week was rough. I still get tired easier than normal but it's getting better day by day. I get to start soft foods Saturday and I am looking forward to it! I have had all the liquids phase I can take. Lol. My incisions are still a little sore but for the most part I'm about 80% back to normal. I've lost 16 pounds but have been at that for 4 days now. I'm trying not to weigh everyday but it's hard. Lol. Anyways I hope you're doing well in your recovery stage.

  6. I started with a lower bmi of 35. I've been researching it for almost a year before I decided to do it. I did it for me not everyone else. My family is very critical and every time I would say something about my friends surgery she did 2 years ago I would get answers like that's the easy way out or she wasn't that fat to begin with and we were close to the same size. It's just easier for me to keep it to myself

  7. I had a bmi of 34 when I had my surgery on May 1st. I had mine done in mexico. I was borderline high BP and sleep apnea. My family history is a lot of BP, cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease so I wanted to avoid that bc I knew it was coming. I was always small when I was younger. I got pregnant and gained almost 80 pounds. Two pregnancies later and like all of you I was the one avoiding pictures and if I had to be in one I was hiding. My husband is the only one who knows I've had the surgery. Everyone else seems to think I could do it in my own. I took adipex for 4 months and lost 50 Pounds. I felt great but the second I stopped taking it I gained it all plus some back. If I did even bring the subject up to any of my friends just to ask what they thought about the surgery I would hear you're not fat enough for that. Really? So I thought long and hard and made the decision to do it for me and my kids. I want to be healthier and happier. As far as everyone else thinks I am on a diet and taking adipex again to lose it. It's been a easier than expected recovery so far. I am on the all liquid phase now and I can only get 4-6 ounces down at a time. It's definately a change but I've already lost 12 pounds in 11 days. Good luck!

  8. My flight leaves early tomorrow morning. My nerves are just now kicking in. I was never scared of dying during surgery before but now I'm getting paranoid and am writing lists of directions to friends and family just in case I don't make it. I know it's crazy, but still, I want to be prepared. I guess in a way a part of me is dying, the old me, the obese me. I still can't believe I've lost 22lbs on the pre-op diet. I technically have one more day to go and it wouldn't surprise me if I lost another pound by then. And I never slipped up and ate any sweets. I did slip up and have some steak, but that was during the phase where I could eat some lean meat and lettuce for dinner.

Thanks to all the good people here who have given great advice. I'm about to make the transition to the other side and become officially sleeved. Wish me luck! :)

Good luck! I'm 9 days post op and a lot has changed in this week alone. Wishing you a great surgery and speedy recovery. Let us know how it goes.

  9. They did my first check during surgery and another leak the next day. The second one I stood in front of an xray machine and drank barium and got to watch it go through and even showed me my new tiny stomach. The barium tastes bad but it's just a small amount. You will feel relieved to see for yourself that there is no leak. Good luck on your journey. I am 6 days post op myself.

  10. Well it looks like my surgery will be much sooner than I initially planned. I will be going a May 1st. That is only 6 days away!! Yikes! I was originally looking into June for a date but due to my husband's busy schedule this time next week I will be sleeved. I will be going by myself and I am so so nervous. Has anyone else traveled to juarez alone? I've read good reviews on star medica but not many on juarez in particular. I don't plan on stepping foot outside that hospital until it is time for me to go home. Any experiences would be appreciated.
