    Quest bars

Net carbs is basically total carbs-fiber and sugar alcohols. So my quest bar has 25g of carbs but 17g of fiber and 5g of erythritol (sugar alcohol). Therefore, it only has 3 net carbs.

    Quest bars

I eat them on occasion. As another poster said, the net carbs aren't too bad. I wouldn't eat on every day, but I'm sure others have and still lose weight. Try baking them if you have the time. Less than five min in a 350 degree oven and they are super yummy!
  3. I started out at 49 BMI and still chose the sleeve. The research made it seem very comparable to gastric bypass with fewer issues for someone like me, with no medical issues. I've had no difficulties with the sleeve. I can eat/drink anything (although I don't) and since I'm not making it public knowledge I had surgery, I liked the slower weight loss possibility. I've lost 75 lbs in less than four months still - halfway to goal! But I do think it's the individual who makes the surgery successful, not the sleeve or the bypass. My surgeon had done more than 3,000 sleeve surgeries and people have been sucessful, even with a high bmi. I have a friend getting the sleeve and he is 450 lbs (granted, he's also 6'7).
  4. I went to a restaurant five days post-op for my father-in-law's birthday. I was only drinking diluted juice at that point and I didn't even want to eat. The food didn't tempt me. Now, at almost four months out, that's not the case when I go out to eat, but I usually manage to make healthy choices. Glad you toughed it out!
  5. I'll have to try them for some crunch when I eat tuna/chicken salad!

    5 weeks out poop issues!

Yes, I can eat any fruit. I definitely add them to my carb allowance, so I'm often in the 50g range. But maybe I'll try the smooth move tea and then I can just eat the prunes a couple times a week. As long as everyone is losing weight, I'm guessing the different recommendations are fine. Still strange though! Haha.

    5 weeks out poop issues!

Milk of Magnesia works well for me, although I hate the taste. But I've added two daily prunes to my diet and aloe juice and haven't needed the MoM. I've been faithful about Water and exercise, so unfortunately those solutions didn't make a difference for me. @@HealthyJudy, that's interesting you're not allowed calcium citrate for 3-4 months. I had to start taking it as soon as I got home from the hospital. The different recommendations are funny.
  8. Wow @@Croaker, 60%-70% is the average weight loss, period, so I wouldn't stress about meeting that in six months either. Sounds like you have the right idea about focusing on the things you can control. @@butterfly23, I was sleeved 4/6. It was a pretty easy experience, too. I don't even know how much I've lost now because I'm trying to weigh only once a month. I was finding that whether I lost a little or a lot would have too big of an impact on my day. So I'm just going to stick to the game plan. I go to the surgeon next Thursday for my (early) four-month check in, so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

    Mirena question

I had a little bit of spotting for about a week after WLS. Someone posted an article about how it's from the rapid weight loss and the excess estrogen. I also got a zit! But my body sorted itself out after about a week. I've even had my old Mirena taken out a new one put in since WLS, and no issues other than brief spotting again.
  10. @@butterfly23 when were you sleeved in April? I can't believe it's been three months, either! You should be very proud of your 45-lb weight loss! I love the list. And I agree, we're in this for the long haul. At the end of the day, what does it matter if it takes is one year or two years to reach goal? I'm just happy that I'm losing!

    Can't or Won't

For the most part I agree. But in my experience, it does take some experimenting. For instance, it took me at least four different brands of protein shakes before I found one that I liked. I still drank the nasty ones on my search - but it was hard. Now, even though I'm three months out I still drink my unjury shake every day because I love them! And the chewable vitamins literally made me throw up. Vitamins aren't much good if you puke them up! But I found nutrametrix, which is a powder form of vitamin you mix with water. It tastes like orange juice. That's why these forums are so important. Even if you do get on here and complain, someone may have the insight that will make your life easier. A new protein shake to try, a water flavoring, a new exercise routine, etc. I hope my experiences help make this journey a little easier for someone, as others' experiences have for me.

Deciding to keep my sleeve quiet....

I told my husband and my immediate family, and his immediate family. I also told my five best friends. I did tell all of them that I wasn't broadcasting it, as I wanted to tell only people I knew would be supportive. The week after surgery, my mother-in-law's friend asked me how I was feeling after surgery. Lol. So I just assume everyone tells at least one person. And I wanted to have control over who knew, not because I was ashamed but because it was private. When anyone asks me how I'm losing weight, I tell them eating small meals, eliminating sugar and alcohol, and lots of Protein. The only issue I have is when someone who is also extremely obese asks me (like a coworker and a neighbor did) and I don't tell them because I do feel like this surgery saved my life. However, I'm guessing they both know about weight loss surgery and either they don't want it or can't afford it. But I feel bad nonetheless that I don't tell them how much the surgery benefited me.
  13. My surgeon didn't give me numbers either, but I was able to find out what the general expectation/average is. But the NUT and surgeon both emphasized that weight loss is personal and it's more important to follow the plan and I will be successful. 30% of excess weight lost by three months 50% of excess weight by six months 70% of excess weight by one year
  14. While I won't say I'm a slow loser, the weight loss after three months has certainly slowed and this list is a nice reminder to keep myself on track. @@leag78 I was sleeved on 4/6! I don't see a lot of April sleevers. My SW was 311, though I was 325 before my two-week pre op diet. We're both out of the 300s woohoo.

    Normal foods

I was also allowed normal foods six weeks out. Protein first, then veggie/fruit, and very few starches. I've eaten a few "bad" things, like a piece of fried chicken, French fries or ice cream when I was about three months out (not all at the same time!) but I ate very little of it, and I made sure that they wouldn't become slider foods. I pretty much eat right 95% of the time, but I am glad to know my sleeve can handle almost any food.

    Protein Shake Questions

My NUT said I could add fruit, yogurt, or peanut butter to my shakes. So definitely ask if your plan allows it, it does help. I managed to survive on EAS advantEDGE shakes before I discovered unjury. I do mix the sorbet flavor with crystal light - and there are a ton of flavor of crystal light/Mio for you to play with.

    carbs

My dr gave me no rules for carbs. But I try to keep it under 50. I usually manage 40 or under. I've lost 70 lbs in 3.5 months, so I won't change it until/if I hit a stall.
  18. I hope you get your miracle! I work at a school also, and did mine over spring break. Surgery Monday, back to work the following Monday. I had a hernia repair, as well. It helped me immensely going back to work - made getting my fluids in much easier as I was in a schedule.
  19. I have the Mirena and love it. I had zero issues. I'm actually getting it replaced next week, as it's been 7 years. My ob/gyn told me she doesn't recommend the pill for women over 200 lbs, and I hated taking a pill every day anyway.

    Goal?

I'm 5'7 1/2" :-) and my goal weight is 175. I'd like to be 164, since that would put me the the normal BMI range, but I'm also happy with anything under 200. I had a brief flirtation with 199 when I was 19 (16 years ago!) but I have been over 200 lbs for forever. I'm at 258 now, down from 325.
  21. rp1980

    protein shake suggestions?

I second unjury being the best for my tastebuds. I was surviving on EAS advantEDGE but it was a chore. I look forward to my morning chocolate splendor shake from unjury

    Isopure Disgusting!

I saw this thread after buying two bottles of Isopure today! I was a little worried! But I tried the Blue Raspberry (over ice, cut with a little water) and it tasted fine to me. Funny how tastes can be so different. The only protein shake I like is Unjury. Tried about five others and yuck!
  23. TXBrittBritt, we had very similar stats starting out. I was 325 at the start of my prep diet, SW 310. I'm 5'8". I was sleeved April 6 though, so about eight weeks before you. I didn't really notice a big difference until about 285. Now I'm about 260 and had to buy new clothes!
  24. I'm going to a big amusement park at the end of July and I'm hoping I'll be able to fit in some of the rides. But I'm worried I'll be too terrified to even try. I was sleeved on April 6 and I'm 260 and 5'8" now (from a high of 325). I hope to lose another 10-15 lbs in the next month but I don't know if that'll be enough. I hope!
