  1. Hi! I was sleeved on 5/6 had some serious set backs along the way (allergy to meds put me back into the hospital & internal suture popped) so I was out of commission for the first 2 weeks. Here it is 6/2 and I'm 15lbs down. I've had a stall over the past week but I'm hoping that passes. I meet with the surgeon on Thursday and I'm hoping he clears me for more exercise besides walking.

How did you know your internal suture popped?

Turns out it didn't pop I had just disrupted the big suture. My surgeon said it just happens to some people. It literally feels like you're being stabbed in the gut. Anyhow I'm glad they didn't have to open me back up!

  3. Hi all, I'm 2 weeks and 1 day post op. Initially I had no problems with my sutures, all of them have healed up nicely. The problem I'm having is under the large suture, inside my abs. I've had horrible pain and thought I had popped my internal suture. I called my surgeons office and they said I needed to come in to have them surgically removed because they were festering. So I went to see my surgeon. He didn't even touch me, and he said I disrupted it some how and I needed to go home and not move for a few days. He says it happens all the time. Let me just say I'm glad they didn't have to open me up again. Anyhow I've been sitting for 3 days and I'm going crazy but the pain is much better however, it's still there. Has anybody experienced this? How long does this last?

  4. Yeah I feel like I cheat daily, I'm supposed to be on fulls but I can 100% tolerate soft foods. So I test little things here and there but for the most part keep to the diet. I've done some research and I think my surgeons office is more strict than others. They want 2 weeks fulls, 2 weeks pureed, then 2 weeks soft. There are those grey areas between each where foods can be in more than one catagory. I've just learned to not sweat it and try my best. At least I'm not noshing on crap. If I cheat, it's something like pureed avocado, split pea Soup, Beans etc. I start pureed in a few days, that should be better. I plan to make pureed chicken salad and other meats with sauce. I just want meat already!

  5. 8lbs down!! I started at 235 and in 9 days I'm down to 227! My experiences are interestingly unexpected. I'm still on the full liquid diet and I'm starving!! I know about heading hunger but it's not that, I'm legitimately hungry, to the point I get irritable. It takes a thinker Soup or yogurt to make me satisfied. Luckily it takes me 2-6oz to be satisfied so I'm happy with that. That's another thing is, I'm never full! I'm just..... Done. My food just loses its appeal and I just stop, I'm good. I still experience some nausea but it comes on around 2:30pm-3:00pm so I take zophran. I don't know why it happens at that time, it just does. The really strange thing is, i now experiencing insomnia. I'll be extremely tired, I'll get ready for bed and then lay there for hours. Then I wake up early and I'm wide awake. It makes no sense but I thought I'd share all of this, maybe some of you can relate. :-)

  6. ***update*** post op day 6. I'm very fortunate to work in a position where I can work from home. Though my job is rather sedentary, i'm definitely not ready to be at the office. It is currently 4:30am. I was awoken to chest pain and having a hard time breathing. Nothing I'm too concerned about but I got up paced back and fourth in my apartment and I'm using my incentive spirometer. I also took a pain med to reduce any inflammation. I'm sure you're asking why I'm sharing this... Well I want to share that there are a number of things that you may feel afterward. Chest pain and tightness, bloating, swelling, Constipation. The constipation is the worst! Any how they're all bearable but uncomfortable. I considered my self pretty healthy before the surgery. I'm a runner, I have a degree in medical nutrition therapy and I'm a medical professional, so I know what to do. I just have the short end of the genetic stick. Anyhow, I was convinced this was going to be a breeze because I am so healthy. That's not necessarily the case. I'm surprised I'm going through all of these uncomfortable experiences. But it's teaching me a lot. In these forums it seems as though there's really good stories and then really bad stories but rarely in between. I think my experience is in between. I'm definitely experiencing things I didn't expect. Like I said before most are bearable (except the reaction to a medication) but I want you all to keep in mind those little things that might make it uncomfortable. Come up with an action plan should anything go awry. Don't think the worst but be prepared to have some sleepless nights and not so pleasant situations. Either way, you're all going to do great. Just keep your head straight and don't do anything unless your 100% ready to. That goes for your diet to! You're going to feel some strange achy things going on in there. Just stop consuming for a little while and let your banana belly do it's job. That's another thing! You learn you can't be part of the "clean your plate club" sorry folks, they kicked you out haha. Anyway, I won't rant any further. Take care of yourselves, there's an amazing story out there and you're going to write it. Much love to you all!

    Sablr3r,

Thank you for posting this. 7 days out today, I was doing extremely well until yesterday!! The constipation and the associated cramps with it was bearable until last night. I stayed on the living room couch not moving an muscle and sweating profusely until the cramps faded. Holy Crap, it hurt!!!! I'm doing all the right things like walking, moving, keeping hydrated, using gas-X etc., but, surgery is surgery and these are things associated with it, I just wasn't expecting it to be this harsh for me. I'm praying to get over this stage quickly!!! jake

Jake, I certainly hope you get to feeling better, it sounds like you had a rough patch too. If you haven't already, be sure to communicate your experience with your surgeon's office. You won't annoy them and they want to know everything. You want to catch any complications before they get worse. Good luck to you and hang in there :-)

  7. Completely normal, here's a breakdown of the things that worried me that would be permanent and went away with time (I'm 2 months post op as of today):

1.) Drinking Water hurt my throat or my stomach as it went down: Went away after a week or two, now I can drink much bigger gulps than before and can finish a 10Oz glass in 2 minutes.

2.) Stomach pain as I ate Jello, soft foods, etc. ~ Went away after 1-2 weeks.

3.) Not being able to eat semi-solid foods without pain ~ Went away after 3-4 weeks. (Follow your doctors orders)

4.) After eating some semi-solid foods it got stuck in my throat - Went away after 4+ weeks (5 for solids), your esophagus is irritated/damaged from the tube they inserted during surgery. You WILL get that feeling if you do over eat a lot, right now I can eat 3/4 of a deep fried chicken breast without feeling like I'm about to vomit.

Welcome to hell, but don't worry, it's temporary, we've all been there and it's all downhill from there.

Now this is honesty! Thank you for sharing ;-)
