I'm also March 23rd, bypass, a bit heavier, 440 and a bit younger, 38. I have a 10 day pre op mostly liquid diet. If you want someone to just keep track with let me know. I don't have the same mobility challenges, just sleep apnea at the moment.

Might be March not sure yet insurance has approved, just waiting for doctor to find out. 37 y/o 6'2 440 at my heaviest, 420 now, with sleep apnea, no other issues luckily. Used to be army infantry. Dr Hamilton in Topeka KS will be my doctor. So stoked when I found out my out of pocket is 200 for surgeon 40 for preop visit co pay, and 100 a day up to 500 for inpatient at bcbs center of excellence in topeka. I have fed bcbs standard.

I'm in will post weight and goal on 22nd

Dr office doesn't know yet but I have been approved by insurance. Asked insurance about out of pocket costs and it's $400 total, if 2 day stay in hospital 100 less if one day. Fed basic bcbs at a bcbs center of excellence. 200 for surgeon 100 per day for inpatient

Needless to say I can't wait for Dr office to schedule my surgery. Insurance said they had a rough date of 1Apr16!

Good to see a Tallgrass person here. My doctor will be Dr. Hamilton. Waiting on insurance approval now. Started this long process last April but wanted to change insurance before surgery. Was federal BCBS standard, now basic thanks to these forums saying it was the better way to go. Not sure of cost yet but will know soon hopefully.

They wouldn't answer, stating everything I get done before the actual surgery may impact how much it will cost through my insurance.
So if anyone here has gone through this with STANDARD Federal BCBS, please let me in on your experiences. Thanks!
-
I am starting to think I'll have to wait till next year and switch to basic.
-
Standard is a completely different monster. It has a 15 percent co insurance. Thats the number even bcbs won't tell me, they say it's proprietary.
-
Final bill for STANDARD federal bcbs please. Also whether or not you were at a bcbs center of distinction. Thanks in advance
-
Awaiting call from doctors office, if they answer I'll update this, if Its as high as I'm guessing $5000ish ill be waiting till January and switching to basic.
-
Yes, exactly. What Im asking for here is someone who has already been through this for an estimate.
-
The benefits tell me coinsurance 15% of the plan allowance after 350 dollar deductible, which I have no clue what that dollar amount is for "plan allowance". What I need is the dollar amount that fed bcbs pays so I can figure out my 15 percent
-
Called my insurance, they told me it would be 150 for hospital inpatient, 350 deductible and 15 percent coinsurance for what bcbs determines is the plan allowance for the gastric bypass plus a few other things. When I asked them for the plan allowance for just the surgery they told me it was proprietary and would not tell me. So any other Standard federal bcbs have this done already that might know their allowed charge for gastric bypass?
Basic sounds so much better

Saw doctor today, informed me wouldn't have a cost estimate till approx 2 weeks before gastric bypass surgery, whenever that may be. Curious as to what this has cost others with federal bcbs standard. I will be at a bcbs centered of excellence+. I have found info on approx cost for federal bcbs basic but none for standard.
I have so much on my mind.....

Well 440 was my highest 413 currently been on my own diet since january. Luckily my preop diet is a few more days away, although I'm already half doing it. Hopefully my tastes stay similar as I don't mind premier Protein shakes (except chocolate I have never really liked chocolate anything.) I like greek yogurt, cottage cheese. Call me crazy but I'm actually tempted to start the diet tommorrow. I just so want to be part of the process. Mar 23rd can't come soon enough.
