Goals
I love this thread!! Some my goals include: •Sitting comfortably in all planes •Wearing a swimsuit without a skirted bottom to hide my thighs •Wear a sleeveless top/ dress without a shrug •To have visible muscles in my arms •Go zip lining in Vegas. •Feel comfortable doing anything I want do and not worrying about weight limits and what others (myself) are thinking of me!

Fear of STRETCHING Sleeve!
I worry about this too. I reached week 4 this passed Monday. I have noticed that I can actually drink and not just sip. I was scared that I too had stretched my sleeve. But apparently not. I ate 3 small turkey meatballs, cutting them down into tinier (barely) chews that night and felt my usual sharp stomach pain I used to feel when I had drank too quickly. So that pain was a clear indicator that my sleeve is fully intact. But i am mindful of how I should drink opposed to how I can drink. Another example, after i left the rec center the other night I was so thirsty. I had left my water bottle in the car. When I got to it, the thirst made me want to chug the water down. Two consistent drinks made me realize that i can't do that. The sharp pains in my stomach hit me again!

Who all did you tell?
Yup, that's exactly why I limited the amount of people I told. This my journey, this is my life. The choices that I make are for me to understand, figure out, and work through. The last thing I need is someone assuming that having weight loss surgery was easy and my weight would magically fall off. Pffft! I may add to my list of others I may tell (friends, family, etc). But as of right now I'm more focused on me and doing the right thing.

Who all did you tell?
I told supervisor so that I request FMLA and short term disability through HR, my mom and dad because they donated the $4000 I was missing to pay for the surgery, my dad told his wife (that pissed me off!), one close friend, 1 coworker, my landlord, and a slew of random strangers just for the heck of it. (If it comes up I disclose it.) I chose not to tell anyone else because I was not sure of how successful I'll be with my weightloss. Plus I don't want anyone offering me any advice about things they don't know/understand, or watching my eating habits for ME.

Any Colorado sleevers?
I was sleeved by Dr. Brown on 3/30/15. Dr. Brown, the anaesthesiologist, and nursing staff were wonderful. I left the hospital with minimal pain. My 2 week post op appointment is scheduled on 4/15/15. When are you scheduled?Congrats!!! I have my one year follow up today! I have had a wonderful experience, lost 85 lbs and, zero complications and couldn't have been more pleased with my surgeon and surgery. Thanks for your response! I had just joined this site when I responded to your not realizing the date you had submitted it! Lol. But thank you! And congrats to you too! I'm so happy to hear that you are doing well still, especially after a full year. Keep it up!

Overnight bag? What did you pack?
I packed: 1 long sleeved T-shirt 1 short sleeved T-shirt 1 pair of sweats 1 Samsung Tablet 1 journal 1 book 1 hygiene bag What did I actually use? Hygiene products, the short sleeved T, and the sweats. I literally slept off and on after surgery. Never turned the TV or tablet on. Slept between people coming in and out of the room, and "pee-time." I was there over night and discharged early the next afternoon.

“Biggest Loser” Versus Bariatric Surgery: New Research from Dr. Huizenga
I'm still pretty new post surgery (week 4) and used to be an avid Biggest Loser fan many years ago when it first started. After watching the show and going through my own weight loss battles, I realized the differences between the contestants and me. Some include TIME (away from work, home, hours in the gym, etc.), having personal trainers, personal chefs, and lastly being on television. I'm not losing weight to win money. I'm losing weight to save my life! And that is all the motivation I need. Plus, the new tools that I continue to learn are set to keep me motivated and keep me fit for life!

Food that taste bad?!
I went for my 2 week follow up (in my third week) last week and I complained to my surgeon about the same thing. Before I could continue on, he explained to me why I may be thirstier more often, feel as if I have bad breath, feel like brushing my teeth all the time, and why food is either gross or extremely too sweet. He explained that it is ketosis. That my body was breaking down fat and ketones are acting in place of glucose. He told me that this was great because my body was breaking down fat!

Fitness! Ideas?
The Y near is me is more expensive than my former gym. Plus my gym is 24 hours. However I did find a community center near me that is rather affordable!! They offer water aerobics and circuit training! So I'm either going to join them or go back to 24 hours Fitness. Thanks for your suggestion!

Fitness! Ideas?
I have never done Water aerobics before and always wanted to. I'e heard great tings about it. My former gym had it but it was during a time when I was still at work, so I would always miss it. If I could find class in my budget and at a time when I'm actually able to attend, I'll check it out. Thank for the suggestion.

Fitness! Ideas?
Funny thing is, running for fitness was my goal in 2013 via Couch to 5K but I never quite made that happen. Hmmm, I think it might be time to give it a shot again! Thanks for your suggestion/ reminding me of an old goal. I've always wanted to run.

Fitness! Ideas?
I'm in my third week post surgery and have been so excited about purees! Nothing exciting but it feel great to not be restricted to liquids. So YAAAAAAAAY to that. I have my 2 week post Op follow-up today and I'm hoping that all goes well! I've been a rollercoaster of emotions after my sleeve, but am happy to have been on an upslope (for the most part) for the last 4 days or so. I'm finding that the more I keep busy, the less I focus on food and less depressed I am. I bought a Jawbone to track my steps and measure my sleep quality at night. I have been walking. I also bought a bike and relearned how to ride it! (I hadn't ridden a non-stationary bike since I was 16! LOL) I'm just thinking of different/creative ways to become more active and create less excuses for not exercising. Randomly, I'm even going rollerskating on this Friday night. I haven't skated in forever and know I'm going to break something for sure! LOL. I've considered rejoining my gym but am hoping to find a less expensive way to get active and lose weight. Any suggestions? What are you guys doing to keep active?

Staples, glue or stitches?
I was glued and had tape on them. I was told to let the tape fall off on their own. My belly was soooooooo itchy for days after surgery! Lol.

Clothes shopping
Im a newbie and plan to shop at Walmart and Rainbow until my weight loss has leveled off. I think I'll be wearing my current clothes for awhile.

What was the first food you ate when allowed solids
I start purees tomorrow as well and go back to work. I have stocked up on baby food (no judgement!! It's easier and convenient, and on SALE!), pudding, Greek yogurt, and apple sauce.

Scared I'm not going to lose weight....2 weeks post op
I feel the same way!! I worry that I shelled out $12,200 (with $4000 from my parent?) and may not lose a significant amount, or look differently at all. I had a melt down earlier this week, I'm calmer now but am not completely over it. After receiving some sound advice and positive support from other posters I feel a bit more confident. So I think we all need to hang in there and just be patient. *I feel like such a hypocrite after breaking down over the exact same thing (plus other things) just a few days ago. Smh. We'll get through it.

I'm Having a Breakdown
Good Morning! @@Babbs I'm feeling good. I can't say great but definitely much better than a few days ago. I'm looking forward to improving as time goes on! Thank you for asking! I definitely appreciate all of the support I have received.

I'm Having a Breakdown
I'm going to my first support group next Thursday and I will definitely bring up the mood thing to the group and the staff at my doc's office. I truly was not expecting to cry as much as I did and have so far. I've never been the most emotional person in the world but when all of that doubt, stress, worry, lack of support hit you all at one time it sucks. It just came out of nowhere

African American vsgers!
Hey all! I was sleeved on 3/30/15. Pre-surgery I weighed in at 288, home scale this morning said 279. No nausea, minor cramping, the BLUES in excess, itchy sutures, but that's about it. I'm finally tracking my water and protein via MyFitnessPal. I just bought a "Jawbone UP" to help me kick my fitness up a notch. So I'm getting it together!

I'm Having a Breakdown
Thank you all!! So much. I had stopped crying, then laughed and cried when I read your comments. A friend/co-worker came over to visit me so I had to straighten up and not show her my tears. And my dad called as well. So your feedback, my friend, and my father have kept my emotions at bay! THANK YOU!! This goes to show that I need all the support I can get when I feel down like this. Unfortunately, I don't have a constant local support system here. I'm from Boston but live alone in Colorado. My family and friends are so far away. I have a few friends here, but we're not that close (emotionally) for me to cry on their shoulders. And they have no idea that I have had the sleeve surgery. I definitely need a support network :-(. Just talking (crying and typing) it out to you and reading your responses made me feel good and that these feelings are not abnormal. I WILL be reaching out to you when I need help! I appreciate you all

I'm Having a Breakdown
I don't know, but I just started crying! I'm worried that I won't lose any weight. I'm worried that I'm not drinking enough Water, or drinking enough food. I'm worried that I'm going to fail. I just had surgery on 3/30/15 and I keep feeling as if it's not going to work for me. Why? I don't know. I just feel like I'm going to be unhealthy for the rest of my life. I don't know why I'm crying. I'm just really down.
