    United Healthcare:Choice Plus

Well, that was a whole different story. Normally it would have been 2-4 weeks, but my program was down to one surgeon so it was about 3 months from the time I was approved to when I actually had the surgery.

It took about 10 days to get my approval with UHC.

    Made to Crave (book)

I love this book! I've read it many times and have even written out all the bible verses so I can refer to them. I pair this with The Beck Diet Solution and both books have really helped me in my struggle with food and head hunger.

When in is it safe to have a drink?

Be sure to check your surgeon's guidelines. I had to sign a "contract" agreeing that I wouldn't drink any alcoholic beverages for one full year.

    Recovery time.

I never would have made it going back to work after just 10 days, I was still exhausted and needing to nap frequently. I was also really gassy and that wouldn't have been pleasant for my coworkers. If your still on pain meds you won't be in any shape to work, they make you way too loopy and tired. Im now on week 3 post op and could have probably worked some this week, but I'm taking full advantage of my time off so I'll be 100% next week when I go back.

    Bypass in 1 week!

I'm 10 days post op and I'm FINALLY feeling closer to normal. I drove for the first time yesterday even though I haven't taken pain meds since post op day 4. My brain has been pretty foggy, too. I never watched TV pre-op (too busy, couldn't sit still long enough), but now TV is about the most intelligent thing I can muster (lots of PBS - maybe that makes up for it ????). I've done a few loads of laundry, but I make my kids haul the baskets up and down the stairs. I'm finally feeling good enough that I may tackle the rest of my Christmas shopping today. I'm not straying far from home in case I poop out and need a nap.

    Everything is disguting

Try splitting the pills into pieces rather than crushing them. The taste isn't as bad and you can get them down with a sip of water.

    Shoulder pain

A heating pad certainly won't hurt, it helped me a lot, along with the pain meds which helped me relax and sleep.
  9. I've been cutting mine into pieces to make them easier to swallow. I wouldn't be able to get them down whole with just a sip of water. I'm hoping it will get easier as time goes on, I'm just 1 week post-op.
  10. 1 week post op and I can have full liquids! Never thought I'd be this excited for 2 T. yogurt and a protein shake.

    Pain and movement

I lost about 10 pounds on the pre-op liquid diet.

    Pain and movement

It's not bad unless I try to drink too much. When I compare a sip pre-op to post-op, it's at least half the amount. Maybe a teaspoon at most.

    Pain and movement

I had my surgery on 12/12 with a two night stay in the hospital. I did take pain meds in the hospital (oxycodone) and have a prescription for home. The day I went home I took 1 for the ride home, and last night before bed. There was about an hour on day 2 where I was completely miserable with gas pains and cramping. I took some simethicone and they gave me heat packs for my belly. I took a nap and woke up feeling much better. Now I'm on day four and my current pain level is pretty low, but if I drink too big of a sip I do get some pain until I all goes down.
  14. My last straw was traveling on the Amtrak. It was a 24 hour trip and we opted for the sleeper car and the room with our own bathroom. I could squeeze in to sit, but reaching behind was impossible.

    Recovery + Time Off Work

I am 3 days out and had planned on taking three weeks. I just got a call from my short term disability person and she said I'm approved for 6 weeks. Guess I'll just see how things go.
  16. I had surgery on Saturday and I'm home today (Monday). I'm on Clear Liquids for a week, then full liquids. My surgery went well. I have to keep reminding myself to drink small sips. My perception of the size of a sip pre-op vs post-op is very different. Learned the hard way.

Anyone else having surgery in December?

Today's my last day of work and the last day of my liquid protein pre-op diet. Tomorrow morning starts clear liquids and then at 1:00 PM the dreaded bowel prep. Saturday "morning" I'll need to be up by 3:30 AM to be at the hospital by 5:30. I doubt I'll be able to sleep much anyway. I'm so ready for this!

Anyone else having surgery in December?

@@DeezJeanz - glad to hear your home! @ - yay on the insurance approval! As for post-op, I'm on Clear Liquids until my first followup with the surgeon a week later. Then it's full liquids for 3 days, then purees. I'm almost done with day 6 of this lovely pre-op liquid diet. It hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. The hard part this week is getting all my work done so I can actually be out of the office for 3 weeks.

Hope everything went well today! Hope everything went well today!

    Broth!

Homemade broth sounds great to me! I'm on day 1 of the liquid pre-op diet and I had Pacific Free Range Chicken Broth this afternoon. It was meh. I did, however, have the Unjury Chicken Soup for lunch and that was pretty good!
