@@rnsamantha Now see, getting together with someone to exercise, this is not in my wheel house. I was able to handle a personal trainer for about a month. Very nice gal and I will probably get with her again after my surgery. My biggest problem with groups is, I don't play well with others LOL Sad but true. I am a hermit at heart. It is even hard for me to go to the gym. Guess I'll get a lot of walking done around the house LOL

@@magicalwoman My hubby is the same. He has adjusted a bit to the idea, but I think he still thinks it's too extreme. Even though he has been with me for 47 years and has seen the struggles I've had with weight. He'll be ok. I found out this evening he has canceled golf for the month after my surgery (Sept 16th), and even canceled going to the casino for the same time! That IS a big deal for him to do. It's only a week away, I'm starting to feel a little anxious and nervous, but on the other hand if they said to show up tomorrow, I'd be there with bells on!

I'm in the same boat. I HATE exercise! I'm also not an "outdoors" person. I will walk my dog. I have a gym membership that I will use after surgery (Sept 16th) when the doc ok's it. My biggest problem is I am a quilter. I can get involved and not move from my quilt machine for 2-3 hours. I am going to HAVE to set an alarm to tell me to get up and move. Weather wise, I'm glad my surgery is when it is, and by the time I get the ok for exercise, it will have cooled down. I cannot stand the heat. I'm in southern Arizona, and it gets HOT here. Just walking is good.

I'm scheduled for the 16th. I'm lucky that I don't have any pre-op diet. Where are you in Texas? I grew up in Dallas, moved to Arizona in 71
-
I have my final visit with the surgeon on Thurs., then surgery on the 16th!! Starting to get a little nervous and excited.
-
@@nomilktoday Don't feel too bad. I'm sure we are all looking for that scale to start dropping and forget all the fluids they pump into us. Hang in there.
-
@@ExcitedNana I'll have a small hernia repair also. Don't know what to expect with that. Newme4113 - Good luck and let us know how you are doing

The back and shoulder pain is from went they pumped your abdominal cavity with air so they could see to move around. It will slowly work its way out of your system. Not to worry. Radar, hope all goes well. Keep us updated. Jay05, keep the faith, you will get better and the pain will ease.
-
@amberc425 I really agree with you. Radar you should really check into this place. It almost sounds like a place that wants to do as many surgeries as they can. Is the hospital you are going to a Center of Excellance? That should be a requirement for Bariatric surgeries. Even the ones in Mexico have that certification. Just be careful, very careful. You have a beautiful daughter that needs you.

After surgery, the NUT has given me a Diet Progression list. Day 1 & 2 - Clear liquids Day 3 - 7 - Full liquids - protein shakes, sf jello, sf pudding, smooth yogurt, blended cream soups. Week 2 - 3 - Soft foods Week 4 and on - Regular diet The only reason the first few days diet would extend would be how I tolerate things. Also from day 1, 48 oz of fluid/water, and from day 3, 80g of protein. And vitamins, chewables.
-
@@Radar Whoa, they have never weighed you? I'm sorry but that just doesn't sound right. I have been weighed every time I go into the office. I did have a 4 month waiting period. Are you self pay? But even then, they should be tracking your weight from the first time you walk in the door. What kind of after care are they giving you? My surgeon's office has already laid out the post-op schedule I'll go through. I'll see a NUT twice and will see the surgeon frequently for the first year.

I'd like to know what the drain is about also. I've not heard my doc say anything about that. When I went to my pre-op info class at the hospital the other day, they mentioned injections I would have to give myself, in the stomach, for blood thinner (I beleive that is what he said). All I heard was injections, stomach, 6-8 of them, and then all I heard was blah blah blah. I HATE needles. Told my hubby he was going to have to do that for me. I'll find out more about that on the 10th, that's when I have my pre-op appt. with the surgeon. I'll also ask about this drain thingie.

@@Jay05 Yes, from what I was told, the first 3-4 days are the worst. The PA told my hubby to be prepared, he said everything that goes wrong during that time will be the hubbies fault. Sun comes up late, hubbies fault. Water not hot enough, hubbies fault. We laughed about it, but PA said that will be the worst pain. There was a lot of stuff poking around in there and a lot done, so it's only within reason there will be pain. Just stay ahead of it and take those pains meds!! Most important. You will survive and be a new happy person, believe!

I had my EGD today, have a small 2cm h hernia. No biggie, will be fixed during sleeve surgery. @@nomilktoday - glad all went well for you keep us updated. Surgery on the 16th for me!

@amberc425 Good Luck!!

@@roundisashape I'm with you! I can't seem to cut down the cooking from 4 to 2. Sometimes we eat the same thing ALL WEEK! Mostly because I don't care for frozen food (frozen after being cooked as a meal). Some things change in taste, to me. I recently got a cookbook I saw on Amazon, 7 bites, by two women that had had bariatric surgery. I thought, great, here's a cookbook that will give me recipes for 2-6 portions. Nope, most of them were for 16 bariatric portions!! Some even more! I want small recipes. Even books that say they are "cooking for two", have many more portions than that. Has anyone found a cookbook that people that have had WLS can really use?
-
@ It will go by faster than you think. Good luck. As we all have our surgeries, let's keep updated on how we feel, how we are progressing. I think it would help all of us.

@@pindoctor Fantastic! Good luck, and keep us updated.

Sept 16th for me
-
@@Jay05 My Bariatric doc doesn't require a pre-op diet. Amberc425, you mention the no smoking 8 weeks pre-op. I found out last week that my doctor turned down two patients because they smoked and weren't planning on quitting after surgery. Tough love I guess. I'm so glad I quit, it's been 13 years on Sept 17th. My surgery is set for Sept 16th, so I'll have two anniversaries to Celebrate in the coming years. When is your surgery set for?
-
Whoa, just created that little surgery countdown ticker and realized how close I am!
-
It's really such a relief to have an actual date! No more wondering when.
-
I'm really glad I don't have to do the pre-op diet. I'm not going to go crazy, but I am going to have a couple more food funerals LOL
-
@@Cococat You're right. It's very good to know the old ticker is ticking the way it's supposed to.

Wow, had an interesting experience today. Had a Nuclear Stress test. Never had one of those. The hardest part was the horrible headache I got, starting late yesterday, because I couldn't take any of my meds. My sugar didn't go up too bad. The tech told me it was caffeine withdrawal. Told him I didn't drink coffee or sodas, so how could that be. Then I told him I had 2 Excedrin every morning for my arthiritis, he said that's it. He told me the Excedrin is loaded with caffeine. I knew it had some in it but had no idea it had that much! It's a little after 5pm here now and I am just now getting rid of the headache. No more Excedrin for me, never! I don't want to go through this withdrawal again. I am going to call the doctor tomorrow and find out what I can take for the arthiritis aches. At least I learned something today, besides the fact that my heart is just fine.
