  1. I am 11 days post op. I did very well my first week keeping down clear and full liquids. I struggled a bit yesterday to get all my Clear Liquids in and am so bored with my Protein shake. As of Monday I will be able to add protein in my diet. But I'm starting to feel actual hunger. How long post op did it take for you to regain your appetite? I am looking forward to being able to chew!

Band to RNY type 2 diabetes

I hope I have the same success. I was diagnosed as a type II diabetic in 2000. Had the band done in 2012. Lost 40 pounds despite only having two fills. No change in my diabetes though. A1C stayed around 12-13.5. Made the decision to have the RNY after surgeon said I should have better success. I am extremely insulin resistant and was taking 7 shots per day (3 different types of insulin) prior to the surgery. My insulin remained under good control for the first week post op, but slowly is creeping back up. I don't need as much insulin, but still need it. I've been very active lately and plan on remaining so. Congrats to everyone on improving their health. Hopefully in the next couple of months I will be sharing my success as well.
  3. I have a feeling this may be my experience. Although I am very early into the recovery process (I will have had my surgery 3 weeks ago this Monday), I have feelings of hunger. Someone suggested it may be because I am not hydrated, and I could not dispute that because I have always had issues staying hydrated. However, this is one of my concerns. I changed much of my diet prior to this surgery when I had my band placed in 2012, and due to my diabetes, and it is because of my diabetes my doc and I decided to move forward to the conversion surgery. *sigh*...time will tell. I definitely don't want issues (I had dumping with one of my Protein shakes and it was not fun.
  4. Thank you for sharing that information. I haven't been as diligent the last couple of days in regarding to hydrating. Today I increased my intake and although I still experienced "hunger" I did not feel the need to eat. I've been on the move the last 4 days almost non stop and I don't think I was drinking as much as I should. I almost miss chewing, not really food. I've NEVER been a fan of Protein shakes and I think that is part of the problem too. This too shall pass. Thanks!
  5. It's strange I am feeling hunger, I have to force liquids and my Protein shakes. I am able to start phase I off my Stage III plan on Monday and the following Monday phase II of the Stage III plan the following week (adding fruits and veggies). I read some have just followed their body's queue's. I may do the same. Slow and steady. Good luck with your progress. -Monique

    Eating mashed beans sooner

I literally just asked a similar question. 11 days post op and starting to feel hunger. I still force myself to drink 16-24 ounces of Protein, but very bored with it and hungry. I don't need to eat much, but I do feel the need to eat. I had a slice of turkey and a shrimp today. Held it down with no issues. I am suppose to progress on Monday, but I was famished. I've had two separate procedures, lap band in 2012 and GBS on the 23rd. Planning to have some cream of wheat tomorrow. It is definitely nerve wreaking, but glad to read you're doing well.

    Lets talk gas...

I had my SO rub my shoulders once I got home. I was not able to get much of my gas out until I got home, so I was rather uncomfortable. Walking did help, but the light massage was the best. Best of luck!

    9 days post op

The first 8 days were tough for me. I am on day 11 and finally starting to feel better, but I may have overdone it the last couple of days, so outside of dance class with my daughter I'll be resting and hydrating this weekend. Hopefully the trip out will reinvigorate your senses and energy level. Best of luck!

    Hair Loss

I would check with your doctor to make sure he is okay with you taking Biotin. If he is, he may be able to provide you with a script or you can order them online or OTC in a local pharmacy. I've also heard of something called hair infinity. I am thinking about trying it myself to reduce hair loss and maximize hair growth. Waiting to check with my doc. http://www.hairfinity.com/
  10. No allergies. I just don't eat a lot of the Proteins listed as individual meals or Snacks. Generally they are combined in my overall meal. I've been searching for recipes online to come up with something. I do eat tuna fish and shrimp...both have been given the green light. I do eat turkey, and ham...green light as well. I do eat (actually I love) Beans, lentils, etc...so I am go there. Purchased soups with beans and chicken/turkey and some chili's... Not a fan of: cheese Fish Eggs Unless they are part of the overall dish or prepared a certain way. I figure I just have to make it through next week because once I can eat fruits and veggies I won't be as hungry, want as much and will be able to tolerate a Protein shake or two until I am able to add more. I thought about meatloaf, but I've been hearing mixed reviews on whether that is a good choice. I will be 2 weeks post op on Monday, so don't want to rush anything...

    Hair Loss

The one thing that makes me nervous as I am not the best at caring for my hair. I have been taking Biotin for the last six months and am only about 2 weeks post op. Thinking I may resume biotin along with daily Vitamins. I've heard your hair will grow back, but I am sure it's pretty alarming. Good luck.

    Tomato Soup

I was told to make tomato soup and mix it with milk as a full liquid, which did not seam appealing to me. I did have tomato soup from Panera Bread this afternoon. I could not eat the entire bowl. But it was delicious and took away some of my anxiety. There were herbs in it, but nothing else and it did not cause any discomfort. I had my bypass on 3/23/15. Not sure if that helps, but wish you the best of luck.
  13. Hi everyone! New here. I have been very much a lurker since my bypass surgery on the 23rd of March, figured it was time I actually participate and share my struggles and of course my successes. I had a lap band placed in January 2011 after being denied for the sleeve, despite having uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, and other medical issues. I didn't want the band, but I was desperate to get rid of the weight. I lost over 40 pounds and really changed many of my bad habits, but to no avail my diabetes remained an issue. After much thought, and having to change Dr.'s I finally decided to get the gastric bypass to get even better control of my eating habits, health and overall lifestyle changes. It's been a little less than 2 weeks since I have had the surgery. I am OVER the Protein shakes, but plugging away. Doing my best to stay hydrated and looking forward to moving to Stage III next week. I am praying I am able to gain better control of my diabetes (would be awesome if it disappeared completely) and see where this journey takes me.
