  1. I was sleeved 4/6/15 and still in the liquid diet phase. I see my surgeon & dietician this Wednesday (4/15/15) and i'm sure they will advance my diet..hopefully to pureed. I was wondering how low fat we need to go (how many grams fat/day). Should I go for totally nonfat type foods or should I buy lowfat. I know we need SOME fat in our diet. I need to make a food list soon so I can shop for suitable foods.
  2. I came across this just prior to having surgery. It has 21 grams of Protein in one 8 oz. cup. No fat...22g carbs..should I stay away from it with all those carbs?

So sorry you've had this set back. I hope that all is fixed and you can be on your way to healing and getting back home. Be sure to take advantage of the pain/anti-nausea meds they offer. Feel better soon..my thoughts and prayers are with you!

    April 6 sleeve!

I haven't weighed myself except for the day after I returned home (Thursday) and I was disappointed cause it said I didn't lose any since before surgery and *I KNOW* I had to have lost something being on barely anything pre and post op.
  9. MrsG, it seems you are doing extremely well.. Wonderful and keep up the good work!!
  10. Hello MPerkins. Post op day 3.. I'm still in the hospital due to nausea/ vomiting and not eating/drinking enough. I'll probably be here one more day. Are you still in the hospital or did you go home yet? During my surgery the surgeon found tat I had a moderate hiatal hernia which he repaired. I'm not sure if that added to my recovery time. Let's keep in touch .. and support one another on this journey.

    Day 4

Post op day 3 here and I feel your pain. Today I feel a little better. I ambulated around the unit twice this morning. I'm amazed that I wasn't short of breath like I used to be. Eating and drinking is a real challenge. So far I've only had a few spoonfuls of jello and a few sips of water. I won't be going home today since I'm not really eating/ drinking and because of the nausea. Hang in There.. Every day will be better.
  12. Not looking forward to this side effect.. My hair is thin enough as it is????
  13. Hello Missy, My surgery date is also April 6th and I feel the day way. I'm nervous but excited. Not looking forward to pain post-op but I know it will be temporary and I'll be getting some good stuff to take care of it. Let me know if you want a sleeve buddy to help you along with your journey

    Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?

Hello everyone, I stared the light optifast diet 3 weeks ago voluntarily. 4 shakes and a meal consisting of protein and nonstarchy veggies. I lost 8 lbs though I admit I was not perfect on that program. I'm now on the "full" optifast program and struggling. Today and yesterday I was off program however I'm committing to behave until my surgery date which is April 6th. My diet is tough.. 4 shakes and 1 protein bar.. No meals .. Only broth and sugar free jello between. I do hope that 2 weeks is sufficient time to shrink my liver. I wish the best of luck to all. Please let me know if you want to buddy up for support. ????
  15. Hello everyone, I'm having the sleeve gastrectomy April 6th. I voluntarily started the "light" Optifast liquid diet a couple of weeks ago. while I was not perfect on the diet I did lose 8 lbs. I do hope that will make a difference in decreasing my liver size. I was supposed to start the "full" optifast program last week and admit it's been rocky. It's quite easy to rationalize cheating "oh I will substitute this for that". But now it's down to the wire and I must be very serious.. 2 weeks to go..I WILL behave myself and fully commit to the program from here on in. I've had some roadblocks .. My hemoglobin was low.. only 8.6. I am iron deficient so I began taking supplements as advised by my Hematogist. My hgb is now up to 9.6.. I'll be tested again Tuesday to see if it increased further. The other thing was I was found to have sleep apnea.. and I panicked since I was told by pulmonologist office staff I could not have my surgery if a CPAP machine was not in place before my surgery date..2 weeks to get approved by insurance company AND get the machine set up? ha! My took pity on me I suppose and cleared me anyway (said my sleep apnea wasn't bad). In any case besides my anemia all is set. I'd love to join an April support group so that we could help each other get through all stages of the sugery.
