    Worst Restaurant Food You Ordered?

That sounds delicious Ive had a pizza, where the crust was a pretzel. Funny, I saw a taco bell commercial last night where they were advertising a deep fried, cream filled captain crunch ball lol

    "BFF" Went MIA...Jealousy?

Ive seen this happen with a few ladies I knew in the past, but it wasn't weight related. one of the ladies started a business and it was really successful right out of the gate and continued to grow over the years. They were best friends for years, and did a lot together. The one girl was really supportive at first almost bragging about her friends business, she seemed to be so proud. after about a year the friend started being distant, she only included the business owner in activities if it was a reason to invite her....like maybe they need someone to pitch in to help pay for this or that. the business owner was patient and brushed it off and after about a year or so of being left out. the friend started being a friend again. Maybe this will happen with your situation. she just has to get use to the new dynamics that a slimmer you bring to your friendship. Unfortunately, the reunion my friends had didn't last long. The friend that didn't have the business just went back and forth with their friendship, disappearing at times and showing up if something happens in her life where she needs a friend.
  4. Im having my surgery in a couple weeks. I had planned to not tell anyone and go to and from the surgery alone but my doc told me that I had to have someone there to drive me home and I couldn't be there alone. if not for the docs requirements, I sure was planning to go at it alone

Swanson broths saved me from boring!

I haven't started my pre-op diet yet (my surgery is July 16) but I did buy some of those swanson flavor infused broths. I got the Mexican tortilla and the hot and sour. both are really good. I just had a cup with unjury unflavored powder. I think the Hot and sour will probably be too spicy to "eat" after surgery so I probably wont buy it again. but you are right, they are very flavorful

    July Sleevers! Let's chat!

Hi Laceygoreell, I looked into the unjury products after hearing so much about them and how amazing they taste only to find that it only holds 21 grams of protein. My Nutritionist pointed out something in our Preop class that makes sense. Go for higher protein low carb powders for your shakes so that you ensure you are getting in the amount of protein you need daily. If you go for what taste great its gonna be less filling leaving you hungry or needing to drink more shakes for satisfaction. The higher the protein count the more likely you will be satisfied. Just thought I would share my tidbit and thanks for joining in on the thread. Good luck to you. I also started my pre op diet today. I am to drink protein shakes for 2 meals a day and lean protein and green yay me. 21, 23, 25 grams of protein per serving is about what you will find. if you see any powders that's more than that, its usually not the typical recommended quality protien

    July Sleevers! Let's chat!

My surgery date is July 16th. My doc usually require 2 weeks liquid diet before the surgery but he told me I can start on July 6 due to the holiday. Ive already been experimenting with different things. unjury powder (chicken Soup flavor), Premier Protein rtd, muscle milk rtd, pure Protein Powder. and I have some of those swanson flavor infused broths (which I need to get some of that unjury non flavor protein powder to mix in). Yogurt etc

    Pre-surgical liquid diet

I haven't done my Pre-op diet yet.. but I have been doing a lot of Protein shakes (basically because its easer to grab a Protein shake than it is to try to cook breakfast/lunch lol) but I've done juice fast in the past. the very first time I did it, I felt horrible the first 7-10 day headaches, tired, irritable. The thing that seems to help me is drinking more Water. I know a lot of times people will follow the water guidelines and I was too but I just found that whenever I feel any type of hunger or headache I just drink more water, whether I'm going over the recommended ounces or not. that was a big help and seem to solve my headache problem. I think that first juice fast did something to my body because I haven't had those issues since and I've done several juice fast and I've been loosely doing the protein shake liquid diet for a few weeks now.
  10. I never watched that tv show called the View. (this was a few years ago) I happen to be at a friends house one day and the view was on TV. My friend kept talking about how one of the women on the show was too small and has lost too much weight. I'm looking and I cant pick out who they are talking about. I finally ask and they are like "Star Jones" and they point to the screen pointing out Star Jones to me. Like I said, I never watched the view, and didn't know who Star Jones was. When my friend point her out to me Im like "whats wrong with her, she looks normal to me" My friends were all like "she looks sick, she has a big head" etc. Im like I don't see it. I later find out she had WLS and I saw her older pictures. but to me, how she looked was how she looked and I didn't see anything wrong. I think people sometimes have an old image of you in their mind and when they do look and see the new you, it makes them think something isn't right. its their problem, not yours. People that has never seen the before you probably wouldn't think anything at all.

    $37,500 for sleeve!

When I decided to have surgery (I haven't had it yet - July 16 is my date) I assumed my ins covered it so I made the initial appointment to start the process etc had my mind already set. I found out that my ins didn't cover so I was bummed, looked into Mexico but I ended up finding a different option. of coarse its too late for this this year but I was early enough that I signed up for the affordable healthcare ins plan. its still expensive as I have a monthly payment (and I didn't qualify for a discount) and I will have a 5k deductible (800 has to be paid up front before surgery) I figured this would cost me about the same as a trip to mexico but I like the idea of having a doctor intown that I can just make an appointment if I need/want to be seen for something.

    Almost time T- 2 hours

I've always felt like I was a big guy but "not that big" I mean I can take pictures and Selfies and if I do the right pose, stand a certain way, I look in the picture, to me, like how I think I look. which is a big guy that "not that big". But every once in a while, I will be in a store, say a gas station and I'm waiting in line to pay. I happen to look up at the security monitor and I see this huge guy that is bigger than everyone else around him and I'm like "wow, now that is a big guy" then I start to look for me in that monitor to realize that the person I was looking at was me. I have surveillance cameras at my front door at home. I still remember when I first set those camera's up, I had them set to where I would get an sms message when the motion detector triggers. so I leave my house one day and about 5 minutes later I get the SMS message saying that my motion detector triggered. I pulled over and grabbed my ipad and logged into my system to see what triggered my motion sensor and I see this huge guy walk out my place. my heart started beating real fast for a second till I realized that it was me. now I don't even look at the recordings anymore because I get that feeling every time I see me coming or going in those cameras. I imagine I will probably have the opposite issue once Ive had surgery and have lost weight, where I will really be "not a big guy" but still see a big guy in pictures and in the mirror etc
  13. Yay was scheduled for surgery - July 16th

  14. I haven't had the surgery yet (waiting on sleeve surgery), I'm finished all of the requirements and I'm waiting for my doc to submit to my insurance co for approval. The thought I had/have this whole time is the opposite. I don't really see how making your stomach smaller can be as effective as some of the success stories Ive been reading about. The surgery itself to me doesn't seem like it causes you to loose any weight, its basically the diet that you have to follow that causes you to loose the weight. You can still eat bad, you can still eat the wrong things, you can still eat often (even if the portions are smaller). I often wonder if I just follow the diet plan without surgery would I have the same success. One of the things I've read a lot at the beginning of my research is that you don't get hungry because the the part of your stomach that contains most of that hunger causing hormone is removed. Then you find out lots are indeed getting hungry so that isn't even a benefit for a lot of people. so my answer to the question, I don't think the weight will just fall off. I think you have to work at it yourself I think the smaller stomach helps keep you from over eating but you can also eat around that if you try. Maybe I'm wrong about my thoughts
  15. I would say no. You shouldn't worry about it. a situation like that is tricky with women. Even if it did bother you, Im sure you know better than to say anything to her about it. If she starts complaining about it, you should say "oh baby its fine" That's an easy answer....nope, don't worry about it, don't complain, don't say anything, reassure her if she says anything and if she wants plastic surgery and you are planning to pay for it....then just pay for it. would be less problems if you go about it that way
  16. Easy answer, men just don't go to the doctor as much as women. Im willing to bet it isn't just WLS, its probably everything from the flu shot on. most men only go to the doctor if something is broke or need stitches, or work requires it or like the person above said, a wife forces them too lol and they don't even do it then unless they get in a situation where they cant get out of it anymore.

    Body composition and BMI

Interesting article. I would think there are exceptions to the BMI ranges and really fit/muscular people probably are the exception. Then again, just thinking... it would seem like even if you are all muscle, say someone that is 280 is still carrying 280lbs. they may be more equip to carry that 280 but that is still weight that causes your heart/liver/kidneys etc to have work overtime to support. I wonder if those people are really as healthy as they think? hmm I dunno lol something to think about. but I don't think the rock is 280 is he?
  18. First time poster here, been lurking for a long while. I'm sort of in the same situation as the OP where I'm a single guy, live alone and planned to tell as few people as possible. At the beginning, I told a friend, but only because I suspected that she was also considering, and she ended up making her consultation appointment the same time I made mine. I had planned to tell no one else, ended up telling my parents later on because I realized I was going to need someone to take me to the hospital when I have the surgery. they were surprisingly fine with it. The response that the OP got when she told her friend is why I don't plan to tell anyone else if I can help it. When people try to give advice in that "authoritative voice" assuming you know nothing, but use uninformed opinions and "hear say" as facts to support their "expertise" on the subject, really bugs me. I can feel that regret in confiding in her as I was reading the OP. not a good feeling. can change the way you think about people.
