  1. I'm a single mom with a home too (though engaged now). I made this decision for me AND my 11yr old daughter. I need to be around and healthy for her in the long term. I totally understand the lifetime of yo-yo dieting. It is too much stress, too much weight on our small frames. Please don't fret over possible complications, rather, focus on a positive outcome. If there are complications :cross that bridge when you and your doctor come to it. Right now be optimistic. I'm sure you have given a lot of thought to this decision and don't go into this lightly. Remember the" why ". Best of luck, and feel free to drop by this thread anytime for support.
  2. Going to my first support group since surgery 6 weeks ago and DREADING it. My friend is going through the same bariatric pre-op program I did and they require you to attend one post-op support group before moving on and she asked me to come with her. I am really dreading this because most of the individuals in the group had very high BMIs, and many of them started at well over 300lbs. I feel so awkward, being a "lightweight" , and feel the stares, looking at the "skinny b*ch", in their eyes, of course. If it were not for my friend, I'd say screw it, because I get all the support I need here from you guys ????Just needed to release some of that anxiety.. Thanks for listening!
  3. made me very jittery when I took it years ago. Very short term weight loss and when you stop you gain it all back. So glad I've chosen WLS to help me long term.
  4. we are here to support you!!!
  5. Glad to have another "lightweight" on this thread! Good luck and keep us posted!

What size do you think I might be wearing?

Oh you'll get there! Good luck on your journey!

What size do you think I might be wearing?

Hmmm. I'm 5'2", 160 and wear a 10. I think everyone's shape and frame are different so there's really not a "one size fits all" answer.
  8. You have made a great decision for your health, congratulations! No better motivator than to be around for your children. Forget about the naysayers : only you can understand your struggles. No guilt allowed here ???? This is not an easy decision, nor is it an easy lifestyle, but with commitment your journey will be a success. Good luck and let us know how you're doing!
  9. @@Butterflyhigh I'm so glad you posted. I'm really early in my journey (6 weeks) and while I'm losing lbs. at a pretty average rate, the inches have dropped off rapidly. I've gone from a size 16 to a 10 in a short period of time, and honestly don't want to be any smaller than a 6 or 8. I'm afraid I won't be able to stop losing. I'm taking in so few calories right now, and at a deficit when I'm exercising. My NUT told me my body will adjust, and I really hope so, but reading your story has me a little concerned... Will it get easier to consume more food / calories as time passes?
  10. It's never too late to back out if uncertainty exists. Remember that this is a huge, life-changing decision you are making. When I finally made my decision it was full steam ahead and not a doubt in my mind. Now, I also had life-threatening co-morbidities that made that decision easier for me. Just know that once you have the surgery there is no going back, and your relationship with food will change forever. It's going to be a tough road ahead and will take full commitment for continued success. Lean on your DH for support. Just curious have you tried any medically supervised weight loss programs?
  11. Most insurance companies require 35 bmi with Co morbidities, but you could always appeal your decision, based on your weight history. This might be terrible advice, but I actually "fattened up" just enough for my BMI to be 35 for the paperwork submission because like yours, it hovered between 34.9 & 35.1 on any given day . We all know how easy it is to gain 5lbs... Your other option I suppose would be self pay. Good luck!
  12. I too was afraid my weight loss during the pre-op would disqualify me. The bariatric coordinator I worked with was awesome and totally understood the potential issue, so submitted the paperwork showing my highest weight, not what I had lost. Not sure if it was ethical or legal, but it worked and insurance covered it. And as far as protein shakes and the latter :I don't think it's ever too early to get into what will be a habit for the rest of your life! Way to go!
  13. Good luck!! Let us know your progress and if you need support we I will be here!
  14. @@RobinRg have you checked bariatric-surgery-source.com? Talks about all the procedures there. Also, if you Google vsg diet it should pull up all kinds of sources on what you can eat and the various stages. Lots of bariatric programs put out documents on that. I opted for a sleeve due to struggles with my weight all my life, and worsening medical issues (apnea, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes). I did it to SAVE MY LIFE. 35 BMI is considered morbidly obese by most standards, so I'm not sure why your PCP is telling you NOT to lose weight?? Do this for YOU. So glad you have a supportive DH If you need more support, this is an awesome site, really. Ask away, vent, whatever..everyone here is great! Good luck!

    Is it normal...

I would talk to the doctor about that. 7 weeks out-you shouldn't be sore anymore. I'm 6 weeks out AND I had a large hernia repair at the time of my VSG :my soreness subsided weeks ago.

  17. Best of luck to you guys :you all have made a decision that is best for YOU. I was sleeved on April 1st with a BMI of 32.9. I qualified under my insurance plan with co-morbidities and a BMI of 35. I heard the same "arguments" from my best friend, and future MIL:"you managed to lose weight pre-op, why can't you just continue doing it like that instead of having surgery? " 1) no one understands my struggle with weight, the ups and downs, all my life, like I do 2) if I didn't think I needed this tool to help me lose and KEEP the weight off, I certainly wouldn't be doing this. It is far from the" easy way out ". I finally decided to stop justifying MY decision. My fiance, my kids, and most of the people that really matter in my life are in my corner. And.. I turn to this forum often for support. I am 5 weeks post Op now and am feeling better everyday. My BMI is 29 now, and though I have another 38 lbs. to goal weight I am more confident in my ability to get there than I have ever been. Keep in touch. I would love to know how you are all doing in your journey.

    April 2015 Sleeve Accountability Group

How are you ladies doing?? I went to a wedding /reception Saturday: thankfully they served mashed potatoes so I had a couple of tsp of that, and 3 cherry tomatoes. I also wanted to share a non - scale victory with you all and hope that you will share some too. I have dropped another size, and am into size 12 pants WITH a belt! Woo-hoo!!! I'm encouraged that I will be a comfortable 8 by time I shop for my wedding dress this summer. How is everyone doing?

I had glue too, and I lost the last bit a few days ago. I still have sticky stuff from where my bandage was (for my drain) & it is tough to get off! I'm impressed with your meal plan @crissybat. If I don't get more calories in, I'm sure to stall. I see my surgeon next week and will talk to him about my concerns. Yesterday all I could stomach was. 1/4 cup of soup, and 3 protein shakes ????
