  1. Hey there,

I had my VSG in January 2015, I threw up everything that I put in my mouth for the first 5 months. After readmission and multiple tests, we discovered my cardiac sphincter was basically paralyzed. My surgeon put me on Prilosec 2X a day and after a couple months I decreased to once a day and it changed my life...I pretty much instantly stopped the vomiting and nausea and have been a new person since...push your surgeon to run tests if you're not feeling any better. I wish I would have pushed mine a lot sooner! Best of luck!

Surprised you weren't on Prilosec or another PPI from the get go. Could have saved you a lot of misery if your surgeon prescribed a PPI from the beginning like mine does with all his patients! It's always fascinating to me to see how different every surgeon's plan is. But ultimately, you got your issues sorted out in the end and it sounds like you've come out the other side. Best of luck!

I was on a Pepcid, but it wasn't working at all... we didn't think anything of it until I had to do a barium swallow test and as I did the test the reflux occurred and they found the problem.

  3. I had my VSG January 2015, I am only 23 and have had some negativity from family and a few "friends", but the amount of positive support and response I have gotten weighs out the negative by a landslide. You are the only one who knows your body completely and you know when enough is enough. You made a decision to better your life and you have had success, nobody else knows the way you physically and emotionally feel, their opinion is just that, an opinion, you are doing great! maybe when you're feeling upset by this reaction, it would be a good idea to make a list of the post-op positives to reflect on...negative responses can muffle all the positive ones, don't let that happen.

  4. Did you have them check for an Ulcer? This may be what is causing all your problems.

    Annamarie

Well, I had gone to the ER because i was unable to keep anything down about week 3 and I had a CT and they said everything was normal, now they are gonna do the Swallow test and check to see... I was thinking maybe it had something to do with them removing my gall bladder but idk anymore, i just wanna get back to feeling normal and well..

  5. FOLLOW THE PLAN!!! I was only on clear liquid for 2 days, but then they moved me up to full liquids and I started my Protein then...I have a hard time with my Protein drinks and struggled to keep them down (I struggled to keep anything down)... Don't try the cracker...I was told I could try a cracker on day 28 and even then my mouth was so dry when I tried it I couldn't even swallow it. I understand missing chewing, It's a strange thing really...

  6. So, I had my gastric sleeve surgery and gall bladder removal on 01/29/2015 and I am still crazy nauseated, throwing up a lot, and i have crazy bad heartburn. I am scheduled to have a swallow test done 03/31/2015, and I am on pepcid twice daily. I have been miserable with the nausea, but am pushing through. Any suggestions on what to do about the nausea and heartburn? Is it ok to take tums?
