    Puzzled

You look amazing!! I had the same trouble with meat, but it has been since the beginning. I am now 9 months post op and have just in the past month been able to eat "some" meat. I am so cautious reintroducing them because I do not enjoy throwing up. I hope you are on the upward mend - good luck!

    First day home

Take FULL advantage of not being hungry. Everyone asks if it is normal and yes, enjoy it while you can because eventually you will become hungry again (about six weeks for me).
  3. As long as you have not created discomfort you are just fine, you will know if you have drank/ate too much. I am amazed that you are able to get in that much Water, that is a HUGE accomplishment! Keep up the good work!
  4. I am 9 months post op and can typically eat between 3/4-1C at a time. Last night I was able to eat 1/2C cottage cheese and 1/2C refried Beans.

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

What made you think you would have never been able to have a piece of cake again? I am a firm believer that if you want something have it, but within reason. If I want cake, I have 2-3 bites, not 2-3 pieces like I did in the past! You can eat whatever you want.

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

They do something that MAKES YOU HUNGRY???? REALLY??? No, it makes you not hungry!

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

With the bypass procedure they also do something with the nerves that make you hungry, but I do not know the specifics. I did not have an actual hunger feeling for over eight weeks after having the bypass. I am almost nine months post op and have lost 99 pounds. As for the absorption rate, I take one multi Vitamin and Calcium on a daily basis and that is it. People make it sound like it is so terrible and you are going to have to take 15+ pills for the rest of your life. No matter which procedure you will have to take a vitamin and calcium and the bypass has a higher success rate. Best of luck to you.

    Gummy Vitamins?

I started taking them three weeks after my surgery. I tried a couple different kinds and just could not find one I enjoyed, so went back to pills.
  9. I was really excited to be able to eat skinned fruit as well, but now, I rarely do because by the time I get my protein in, I am done eating for the meal/day :-(
  10. Don't beat yourself up, it happens. You know that you ate way to much, so don't let it happen again. Along with the advice given, I noticed that you only had 43.8 ounces of Fluid. That is of course way low on any given day, but when you ask yourself if you are truly hungry and the answer is yes, drink some Water.

    Constipation Help?

I am almost nine months post op and still have to take laxatives. For me, I think it's the Vitamins that constipate me, so I just started taking one laxative a day (what's one more pill, right?) and it seems to work great. Good luck!

    Shaving Armpits

I am so glad it's not just me. The first couple times, I shaved like normal not thinking anything of it, then I would get out of the shower and be drying off....look in the mirror and be like what the hell, I just shaved. So then I payed special attention and STILL could not get it all. I guess I need to start looking into waxing or laser with summer coming :-) What is the ballpark cost of laser hair removal?

    High Alcohol Tolerance

Yes, the same thing happened to me. I did not drink for the longest time because of the horror stories I had read on here. I was afraid I would be "that person" who passed out after one. Around six months post op, I had a drink at the casino one night, but had my husband drive home because I was waiting for it to hit....and nothing. Now, I am almost nine months post op and this past weekend we went to an event where beer and wine were included. The tickets were $25 and I figured since I could not eat my $25 worth, I would have a few glasses of wine. Well, about six glasses later, I was nearly perfect. I was munching on pretzels, so that may have helped, but I would finish a glass and feel a little tipsy, then it was gone in a matter of 10 minutes.

    Starting number

As my starting weight I used what I weighed the day I started my preop diet (which also happened to be my heaviest).

C25K speed question from a very novice runner :)

Same here....I did not do that program, but when I started I wanna say I was "running" in the low 3's and now I still only run at about 4.5 mph. You will improve and you WILL get faster. Remember to improve, you only have to shave seconds off!!
  16. Hello - My family and I will be going to Jamaica in June and I would like to start tanning pretty soon. I know that I need to protect my scars, but also do not want white lines on the backs of my arms. What has been your experience in covering your scars while tanning? Can I just use a lighter sunscreen (SPF 15 or 20)? Thanks in advance!

    Drains!

@@mskami77, when I had bariatric surgery my drain was removed before I left the hospital - THANK GOD! Drains also freak me out, almost worse that the anticipated pain of having another surgery. I am going to have a tummy tuck and inner thigh lift in December and I just found a doctor (two hours away) that does drainless tummy tucks. I have a consultation early April, but for me it will totally be worth the drive if I do choose him!
  18. @@LisaOle, don't get to tied up and overwhelmed with this part because honestly, what you can eat is so very limited that I personally got sick of things very fast so you don't want large quantities of anything. As for Protein, I would not stock up on that either because so many of them are just plain disgusting, it's truly a game to find on your like. If you can find samples or single servings that would be your best bet. I probably tried 6-8 before I settled on one from GNC. I started with carnation simply because that is what I was served in the hospital, but it's kind of high in sugar. Once I used up the first box I started experimenting. I would also recommend unjury chicken broth. I did not try any other brand because I tried this one first and it was amazing, so I didn't want to mess with a good thing. One other thing that I will mention is after a couple weeks of experimenting with protein is I developed terrible gas. After doing some research online I discovered that there is a certain kind of protein (I think it was whey, but I'm not 100% sure) that does not mix well with skim milk, so I switched to FairLife milk and LOVE IT! My belly loves it and it has 13 grams of protein per cup. Best of luck to you!

    Tanning/Sunscreen

@@ausmith, have you ever used a spray tan? I have always been afraid that I will turn orange and not be able to fix it....lol! I did see that the tanner I went to last year offers it, so I am going to investigate for sure.
  20. I still drink a shake every morning for the same reason. I use a cup of Fairlife skim milk and one scoop of GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 chocolate Protein powder for 33 grams of protein and only 176 calories and they really fill me up.
  21. James pretty much hit on everything I was thinking. I know that I eat between 600-800 calories per day, but that is just because I track in MyFitnessPal. I use it primarily to track my Protein, but it tracks others things as well. I am eight months post op and have another 3-4 pounds to lose and then will be entering maintenance phase. I have to double check, but I believe I heard someone at a support group meeting say that in maintenance phase you start around 1200 and monitor it from there. I would guess that is you gain after a week, you would decrease to 1100 and so on. Good luck!
  22. I am not an expert, but my first question would be "is he getting the recommended amount of protein and fluids on a daily basis"?

    Tanning/Sunscreen

@@CowgirlJane, I am seven weeks post op right now, so a LONG way from two years. I am actually still wearing scar strips, so they are protected for a bit, but also don't want white lines from them :-)
  24. 5'3" Pre preop diet = 229 Day of surgery = 220 Two months post op = 184 (-45 total) Today - eight months post op = 133 (-96 total) Best of luck to you!
