Jltambur reacted to Dub in Has anyone found the journey after surgery easy?
It's been very easy for me.
The surgeon did a great job.....the medical care at the hospital was excellent and the simultaneous hernia repair wasn't so bad.
Each step of the healing and way of eating has had unique challenges but they've gone very smoothly.
I have zero complaints and zero fears about the future.
The liquid diet pre-post op (6weeks for me) was very instrumental in my establishing a new way of interacting with food. If needed in the future, I'll jump back on that liquid diet in a skinny minute !!!!
I've really gained confidence now as I've resumed grilling and cooking again for the family and have no problems with temptations.....not interested in carbohydrate heavy food. I'll cook it for others, but I have no desire for it.
meats and some Fiber filled carbs with occasional cheeses or nuts are my staples......along with on occasional Quest bar or shake.
I do admit to weighing frequently. I'm not recommending that folks do that......I'm just stupid that way......I've got to see that number every day. I don't let slight upward fluctuations freak me out.....but they do motivate me to stay on point.
The absolute singular regret I have is not doing this years ago.

Nope. I struggle at times with wanting to eat things I shouldn't, I still see the 250 lb woman I was before the surgery in the mirror at times (going to therapy for this), I struggle with plateaus even though I know it's a normal part of the process. I have to deal with people who don't understand the process telling me I am losing too much weight (even though I am still obese and a nurse at that!). I still have to talk myself into exercising at times. Despite all of this, overall I feel so much better. I wouldn't change it for anything.

I went to my PCP today, and she was astounded at my success. But I was so excited when the nurse was taking my blood pressure, and did not reach for the extra large cuff. She was able to use the normal adult size cuff!! That felt wonderful!!!!

@@TerraCorrupt I've never used the ketone sticks post-surgery and I was diabetic for 10+ years! Everyone is spot-on, focus on meeting your Protein and Water goals. I had no problem getting in 60 grams by my 3rd day post-op. A great way to meet both of those goals at one time is adding Protein2-0 Water to your regime. You get 15g of Protein in 16 oz. of water - way cool!!! Sometimes I like to kick them up a notch by adding flavored liquid Stevia. I don't care for protein powders so Premier Protein ready-to-drink shakes are my favorite but these waters are a really good alternative when you need something different. You can go to their website and put in your zip code to find out where they sell them in your area. You can order them on Amazon but I found them on sale locally for only $1.49 each. Best of luck to you on this amazing journey

Jltambur reacted to Sony09 in Can anyone compared RNY to c-section?
I had 2 C-sections at 14 months apart.. It was the worst pain; it was definitely worse. Post op WLS-RNY and goal weight... eventually I found my C-section scars.
The WLS was a breeze by comparison. I was well prepared for WLS, both physically and emotionally, so I think that helped. My surgeon was magnificent... For along time I even questioned; did I have surgery? No pain post op and even no bruising! Oh, but I did have five tiny band aides from the port sites: laparoscopic WLS.

I love the Quest bars, and have never had a problem with them. I am 3 1/2 months out, and started eating them about a month ago. There are so many great flavors. I also recently learned a new trick from "The World According to Eggface" blog - you can cut these bars into 8 pieces, and bake them for a cookie-like treat! Check it out!! Good luck to finding a bar that works for you.

@@Jltambur I make the Cookies from 2 different bars at a time so I have variety. I cut them into 4 pieces instead of 8 and sprinkle them with a lil Splenda when they come out of the oven. They taste so much better this way. I usually eat 2 (half a bar) at a time as a snack while watching TV or I'll take them with me when I'm out and about shopping, etc. I like making Jello sugar free/fat free pudding with 16 oz. of Premier Protein. A half cup serving and 1 cookie make a wonderful 16g Protein snack as well It's all about making Protein #1 now!!!

When I was still in the hospital and they had me up and walking, I noticed I was feeling really POWERFUL.
Now I am only 17 days post-op and I feel like I can do anything.
My diabetes is no longer an issue, and nothing can hold me back.

I had the rny gastric bypass in August of '05. Initially lost 136 pds have gained back about 15 but have also had two children and preg with a third. Wouldn't change my decision for anything. If you are a sugar junkie or carb junkie like I was the rny is the BEST SURGERY period.

As your volume increases, the amount of Protein you consume from meals increases. I am up to a cup per meal and derive about 65 grams a day from my meals alone. I went from 3 Protein shakes a day, down to 2, down to 1 and then eventually down to none. I eat homemade high protein chili and Soups. I have included some of the recipes in the attached link. These have about twice the protein content as store bought chili and soups.

Also in time you will be able to transition to Protein Bars as a supplement which come in handy when you are on the go.

Jltambur reacted to FeelinGood2015 in Why is this ALL I'm thinking about now!?
No I absolutely cannot eat anything at this point. I found THAT out a few days ago when I got cocky and decided since I was doing so well, I would try and eat some soft pork chop. Small bites. Chewed really well. TOO EARLY. I had my first dumping event that lasted for three hours! It was horrible. I would go throw up, come back to my desk (I work from home) and sit for about 5 minutes, and then I would need to throw up again. THREE HOURS! I was taught a lesson by my body. And believe me, I heard it! So I am on the mushy/soft food phase, which is where I am supposed to be. Soft scrambled egg with a little cheese, refried Beans with cheese and guac, yogurt (I LOVE the Dannon Light and Fit Greek Whips! The lemon meringue tasts JUST like a real slice!), egg sald with light mayo, mustard, and a little dill relish, skim milk... I am fine to be here for awhile.
What's really cool is that I do not miss the sodas, or my beloved sweet tea. I was a fiend with both of those and now I don't even think about them. So that's a plus. It does get better and having lost 22 pounds now, I am happy with my decision and grateful I get this chance to be healthy again.

My gastric bypass surgery is tomorrow and I'm STILL contemplating whether I'm getting the right procedure or not! Obviously, there's no turning back now but I don't want to regret anything...
When I first started thinking about surgery, I was 100% for the sleeve. My turning point was when I was talking to a couple people who were sleeved and they said they can eat/drink whatever they want. To some, this sounds good, but to me it was a big red flag. I don't want to be able to eat bad food, I want that restriction. I don't want to be able to eat the bad foods that got me here in the first place.
My surgeon also told me that bypass patients lose more weight at a faster rate, and that's what sold me. If I'm gonna get the surgery I might as well get the procedure with the better stats. Don't get me wrong I've seen plenty of people do well with the sleeve and it is different with every person, but I just know myself and the bypass is the right choice for me!

Hello ladies, I'm 42, and had my surgery on 3/13/15, and am feeling great overall. I am living outside of San Diego, and absolutely love it here. We are a military family and from Texas. I have about 100 lbs to lose, and have lost 21 since surgery. Not a lot compared to many others, but I am very happy with any weight loss. I would like to be buddies if you want.

I'm a week out (March 26) and found that this constant sipping to get in my fluids makes me feel like a fish! And if I should take a nap... There goes 2 hours of Protein Drink or Water sipping time and it dramatically cuts down on my ability to meet my goals.
We should have t-shirts with Dory the fish on it saying 'just keep sipping'
