Thirty-seven today! The best thing about being my age (and bald), is I no longer need to worry about hair loss! :grouphug:
-
You'll never take me alive, copper(!)

Okay, maybe this should be going under the food forum, still... We're not really supposed to eat bread, so, I've stayed away from it since being banded, (last August). Not easy, I'm sure you'll agree. But... Do pastry products such as (what you crazy Americans call) a "Danish" count as bread? I know I won't lose weight eating them, but will they potentially expand my pouch in the way bread products do? I'm sure there are both experienced and knowledgeable bandsters out there with a definitive answer to this conundrum, Ta!
-
Mmmmm.... "liquified powdered sugar"...
-
It's simply called "Danish Pastry" and never shortened to "Danish"... Maybe we're too close to Denmark to be allowed the contraction.
-
Thanks for your answers. I really was informed by my dietician that bread can s--t--r--e--t--c--h the pouch, but she may have said that as a sneaky way of keeping me away from carbs. :biggrin1:

...am I filled too tight? Yesterday, I went from a 5.5cc fill to 6.8 (it's a 9cc band). Today, I can drink Water (slowly), but have to be very careful with coffee/milky drinks. I appreciate it's maybe too early to tell, but if I can't keep down a slimfast shake, then maybe I'm filled too tightly? Your thoughts/opinions/abuse are much appreciated. Thanks!

The people who did my surgery took part in a "reality" TV show on British television called "Supersize Surgery" (about the lapband and the people that had it done) - the program turned into the most blatent advertising for that particular surgery I've ever seen. I'm certainly not gonna recommend them, they don't need anymore publicity!

Let me be one of many people to ask...

Thank you Therasa and Alexandra for your help. Its two days after my fill, and I can now easily accomodate larger sips of Fluid, so, the swelling must have gone down. Looks like I'll have a good level of restriction, after all. Once again thanks. -
I had my first fill the other day - 4.5cc's (apparently, my band takes a total of ten). Now, that only leaves me with 5.5cc of expansion. Could this represent a problem? Should I be concerned? Thank you in advance, Andy B P.S. On the positive side, I notice one-or-two people are worried about hair loss. Personally, before the band, I had less hair than a shaved egg, and I'm fully expecting no change:)

Allow me to add weight to your thread

Hi! To get from London to Edinburgh just go to the King's Cross train station. You can buy a ticket whilst there, and the train will take you directly to Edinburgh in about three hours. Hope that helps
-
I've just got back from a long flight, and I can confirm there's no change to my restriction. The only change from my last non-banded flight, is I can now easily fit in the seat!

Do you have any weight-related health issues at the moment? It could make the decision easier. I suppose you could wait for the year, and try to lose a few pounds during that time, knowing full-well that the weight you lose over the next twelve months will stay lost due to the band.
-
I thought of giving my old clothes away to a charity shop, but I'm not sure as larger sizes are welcomed. I suppose there's gotta be a market there, somewhere.
-
My word, gaining weight to qualify for the band? What a crazy world we live in. Still, I hope everything works out for you, Lisa.

What a great thread! I am on around 1,300 calories a day, as I've worked out. (these are Kcals, I'm not sure if they're the same as your yankee calories - apparently 1 Kcalorie is the energy required to heat a litre of Water by one degree). A typical day... Breakfast - Branflakes. lunch - some crackers and humus, maybe small, grilled low-fat sausage too. Mid-afternoon - A banana. dinner - a meal of around 600 Kcals. Evening Snack - half a roll of fruit gums (a small, chewy candy) Nutritionally, this works out at - <TABLE style="BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" borderColor=#111111 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=1><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width=150 bgColor=#eaeff2></TD><TD vAlign=top width=190 bgColor=#eaeff2><TABLE cellSpacing=6 cellPadding=0 width=190 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width=15 bgColor=#5796a6></TD><TD>Carbohydrate (51.7%) </TD></TR><TR><TD width=15 bgColor=#d2981a></TD><TD>Protein (19.7%) </TD></TR><TR><TD width=15 bgColor=#b22c20></TD><TD>Fat (28.6%) </TD></TR><TR><TD width=15 bgColor=#dedede></TD><TD>Alcohol (0.0%) </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> According to www.weightlossresources.co.uk This combined with 9,000 steps a day means I'm currently losing around 4-5 pounds a week.

What am I missing? Why are ppl leaving?
Pianoman replied to gadgetlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I never thought one person could hijack a entire forum. Still, I suppose it's possible? In life, it's often a small minority that can ruin it for everyone else, I suppose. Like others, I think its shame that the more experienced bandsters are leaving - for example, I really identified with "Jack". His experiences were a lot like my own when I was first banded, and it was great to hear I wasn't the only one with certain issues... If I remember, his description of the different kinds of PB was a revelation - and certainly helped me prepare for mine. -
I was just over 300 at the start, I've lost 50 pounds in the past three months, and I'm still losing fairly quickly. Maybe RNY should be a last resort. The lapband has worked for so many people in your situation.

Well put, Alex! I suppose as the band becomes more popular, the board will become even more diverse. -

I can't argue with that. Being a relative band newbie myself (banded for six months), even I find it odd that people who have only just been banded, or even worse, have yet to be banded are giving advice like some sort of weight loss super-guru. -

Ooh, I forgot to say, best of luck for the 24th, K@t! I'm sure it'll be a breeze for you! (remember to ask all the right questions) -

Posts of an "adult nature"? Haven't seen many of those. I think the erosion issue was done-to-death, maybe that put a few of the long-time members off? -
I was in the chat-room last night. There were two people on it, who both promptly disconnected upon my arrival. Was it something I said? Do I emit strong net odors?

Most people seem to be from the U.S.A

A quid is one british pound, or appoximately 1.80 dollars. Its a slang term similar to the american use of the word "buck".
