  2. The liquid diet does get easier after the first few days, however don't forget this isn't a change for only two weeks, this is a change for the rest of your life! Your eating habits will be drastically different at a minimum for the next few months after surgery, and ideally forever. You have to stay very focused on the goal. I am only five days postop, and still have to fight head hunger issue. I see others around me eating foods that are used to absolutely love, and it is hard work to get used to the fact that you will not eat those things anymore to be successful. I am certainly not hungry whatsoever so that helps! I urge you to place yourself in the mindset now ahead of surgery of a lifelong change. As everyone on these forums has said it is certainly not easy and it's definitely not the easy way out! But so far I'm down several pounds and I'm feeling pretty good and I know in the long run my health is the most important thing for me and my family. Keep focused on the goal and don't allow yourself to make excuses to cheat. You can do this and if you can stay focused you WILL do this and succeed! Best of luck to you in your journey!

May 27th is my new birthday!

It will be here before you know it, so research and prepare as much as you can ahead of time! Wishing you all the best in your journey!
  4. I only had to do one week, but I have not heard of anyone that didn't have to do any kind of diet at all. If you were told you needed to do a two week diet and haven't, you have greatly increased your risks during surgery. The preop diet also serves as a bowel prep to avoid doing MiraLAX or go lightly. And the most important thing is that it reduces the size of your liver allowing your surgeon to operate more safely.

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

@@wannaBthinsoon I hate to say it but I was one of those ladies writhing in pain next to you. Of all my surgeries this one was by far the most painful. The nurses thought it was because the drain tube sat right under my diaphragm so every time I had to breathe it would rub on the drain tube creating pain. unfortunately since I'm a terrible IV stick I ended up with a central line as well. I'm trying to do the best I can with getting in my fluids which I'm getting about half right now. I'm staying on top of my pain medication so that I can keep moving around. I am thankful I have not had any nausea but my stomach does talk to me all day long LOL I'm glad to hear you're doing well I can't wait to get back feeling semi-normal!!

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

@@wannaBthinsoon I am so excited and nervous at the same time!! I can't believe it is already here!! I can't wait to start everything tomorrow and get on the losers bench! That would be great if we got to meet up, my name is Kristy and I will see you hopefully after surgery! Well wishes to everyone having surgery for a speedy recovery and!!
  8. I am a self pay patient scheduled for gastric sleeve on Thursday. My husband has been super supportive from the beginning, going to my appointments and everything…until tonight. We get into a disagreement about something stupid, and he says "well I don't have to approve of your surgery, you're getting what you want so you don't care about anything else!" I walked away because I'm not sure he would've continued to stay upright if I hadn't. ???? Anyway I'm wondering if his true feelings are coming out and he really isn't supportive but doesn't want to tell me? At any rate, it was extremely hurtful. I also feel like I sacrifice everything for my family. I can't tell you the last time I did or bought something for myself. I feel like investing in my health is the best purchase I can make for myself and our kids. Just wondering if anyone else went through this, and if so how did you handle it? I'm extremely frustrated right now but I'm also trying to understand what he is going through since my surgery affects our whole family. Any feedback is much appreciated.
  9. @@bayougirlmrsc I am so sorry to hear about what you have been through and you are going through. There is no way in hell he should be saying this stuff to you whatsoever. You are correct he is showing his own insecurities but that does not make it okay. Just like I felt like my husband's comment was totally out of line. My husband and I have been to counseling many times in part to work on our communication. No, I am not going to sweep this under the rug because it bothers me and therefore I need to talk to him about it. Do not let him bring you down, you have worked so hard to make yourself healthier. As tough as it may be, do not let him sabotage it.

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

@@mclorrie Trust me it will absolutely fly by!! I thought it would never get here but looking back it has been so fast. Do as much research as you can and start transitioning to your preop diet ahead of time so it isn't as drastic of a change!! Thank you for the well wishes!

    My Surgery is on Thursday!

@@wannaBthinsoon Did they move your surgery up?? They called today and said mine is 11 now. So excited for us!!!!
  14. "It comes across to me in two ways. Firstly, like he just used the surgery as a way to complain about another issue he has with you (considering I don't know what the whole conversation was), as he knows the surgery is super important to you so that angle will hurt you the most. " I think this is probably spot on @@mrs kaje. He has been there surgery before with me and wasn't like this so I'm thinking he's nervous because this is a self-pay surgery not one covered by insurance. Thank you all for your advice, I'm going to let him have some time and try to talk to him tomorrow. I know he's probably going through some difficult things as well and I want to try to be supportive too. I haven't really talked about it much at home because in a way, I still feel guilty for spending that much of our money on myself. Part of me wonders if deep down he would like to have this too but is too proud to ever admit he has a weight issue. He does lose weight very easily with dieting however he tends to yo-yo like the rest of us. @@samuelsmom BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I needed that laugh!!

  16. So I had my final preop appointment yesterday with the surgeon, and everything is all set for April 23!! I'm so excited I can't stand myself, but have chosen to only tell my husband and my mother about my upcoming surgery. So I'm posting here to celebrate!! Lol! Anyway, my surgeon yesterday put things into perspective and told me that next year he wants me to tell him a story of something I did in the last year that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to do because of my weight. It just kind of hit me like a ton of bricks that in only one short year my life will be drastically different. I have been overweight since childhood so that is all I have ever really known. I wanted to get everyone else's input of things that you have done since your surgery that you would not have been able to do before. Also for those of you did that did not tell many other people about your surgery, afterwords did your coworkers and friends begin asking questions due to the significant weight loss and how did you respond? I don't want to lie but this is such a personal choice for me. Also I want to thank everyone on here for their posts and input; it has been invaluable to me in my research process. I know certain things get covered over and over, but to a new person like me all of these things are very helpful. So thank you all!
  17. I can only speak as a preop patient, however; you are dealing with years of eating the same way over and over and in a couple weeks are trying to change habits that are hard in place. Don't beat yourself up about it, look at it as a minor setback or a speed bump in the road and something to improve upon. I don't for one second believe anyone is perfect in this journey that we are on. We are bound to make mistakes, but it is how we deal with them and learn from them that shows the true character of ourselves. You are bigger than this mistake, so pick up yourself and move forward all eyes ahead on the goal. Just my thoughts.....

    where do you live?

    Kansas city Missouri here!!
  19. @@arrical8 I was the same way. I am self pay from Missouri as well and my surgery date is 5 weeks from my consult. That was the next soonest surgery date available. Plus it leaves me time to do the EGD (which has to be done two weeks ahead of surgery to check for H. Pylori) and a 7 day pre op liquid diet.
  20. I have not had the sleeve yet however I have been an emergency room nurse for several years. I can tell you your symptoms are consistent with dehydration and not enough fluid intake. I don't know anything as far as how it relates to the surgery side of things and if this is a normal phenomena, but I would definitely measure and evaluate how much fluid you've been taking in. Also, if you are on any blood pressure medications they may need to look at adjusting your dosage down since you are losing a significant amount of weight. I would also let your surgeon know you are having several fainting spells (and your other symptoms) as this is not normal.

    Got my date!

OMG!!!!!! I am 1045 check in for 1200 surgery!!! how crazy is that?!?
  22. Thank you guys for the input! I really appreciate all your advice!
  23. Hello everyone! I am scheduled for sleeve on April 23 and was just wondering if any of you had a very difficult time with the lab or IV sticks?? This is actually the part I am most nervous about as the last time I had blood drawn took 2 1/2 hours and about 30 tries curious to know if any of you were in the same situation and how the outcome was. My last surgery they put my IV in my neck but they were pretty hesitant to do so. Thanks for any input!!
